I recently used William H Brown’s mortgage services through Mr James Wiggins and was very pleased with the service. James was very approachable and answered all our questions. As first time buyers we didn’t know what to expect but James walked us through the whole process. He also encouraged us to get the mortgage application done when the rates dropped which helped us secure a good rate before they went back up. He set up the whole application process for us and also ensured that all the direct deposits would be properly set up as well as building insurance.
When we were blocked on the lender during the conveyancing process, James was very happy to call and nudge them and explain to us what was going on. This happened multiple times and each time James was happy to jump in and help speed up the process for us. Without his help the process would have surely taken a couple of weeks more for us. It was invaluable to have his assistance and he was always easy going about it.
I would definitely recommend his services and will be looking forward to using them again in the future too.

Every member of the WGC team I’ve spoken to over the last 6 months of my house sale process are fantastic- I’m not exaggerating.
Sean, Leoni, James- even Lily and Sarah who directed my calls- everyone has been top tier.
During the quite stressful time, the WGC Team have delivered on every promise they have made- which is *so* rare nowadays. (Dare I say they even went above and beyond the call of duty on a couple of occasions!)
You are treated akin to a friend or family member, not just another number, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anybody looking for an agent… Even the solicitor they recommended was fantastic!
They are professional, fairly priced, and worth every penny for the superb service provided. When issues arose within the chain, I was provided frank, valuable advice by the Team which ultimately helped in successfully completing the process.

Absolutely could not recommend the team over at WGC enough. Friendly, easy to get hold of, give you honest and open advice and feedback (on a process that is daunting at times). I had been interested in renting out a property from William H Brown at the address of :
7 Kingsdale House, Windsor Road
AL6 9LA
An estate agent named Charlotte Uttridge, was responsible for handling this property an myself as a customer.
Whilst I was viewing the property Charlotte asked me if I will be able to provide an income of at least £30.000, which I did in my S302 tax calculation form, total income was £30.061.
I understand its a little above that, but when we say that so and so is needed then we should stick to it.
Then I receive another email from Charlotte, saying the Tenant Letting Check wont accept an income from an EMPLOYED position. As far as the law and HMRC is concerned income is calculated by adding earning from self employment, employment, pension, dividends and any other sources of income.
That is not all.
On Friday 1st September the Tenancy Letting Check contacted my landlord regarding my references, without me telling him they will be calling. He then confirmed the phone call and stated he's given positive references. On 4th September while I was at the office, Charlotte told me they are unable to contact my landlord and I need to provide information about other landlords. Which is to wind me up and put me off the whole process.
I had asked Charlotte to clarify why their definition of the word income differs to that of HMRC.
Perhaps HMRC are in the wrong and are misleading on the way we calculate our incomes.
This is absolutely absurd and unprofessional on Charlotte's behalf, and it was a clear grab on my money, which I will not tolerate. I am a Builder and work very, very hard to make people happy and get paid, and at the end of the day I will not be scammed by a con artist who thinks a Polish man isn't aware of the law and rights.
During my viewing or prior to taking the holding deposit Charlotte had not explained that incomes cannot be added from different sources which mislead me into thinking I can take this property on. Had she explained this, I wouldn't take time off work to look at that property and not waste mine or her time.
I will also be contacting the Property Ombudsman Service, or Financial Ombudsman Services which ever is suited most.
This is a scandal.

We used William H Brown for over five years for my rental property. They managed the tenancy for my house and at the end of five years, I decided to sell my house. I explored the market and signed up another agent on the high street as they were offering slightly better deal on commission. However it was a mistake as they didnt list on all property portals and failed to sell the property. After three months, I decided to list with William H Brown and received great service. I received value-adding advice on my property listing. Initial pick-up and viewings were slow but I recieved detailed feedback on every viewing. Whenever I had a query, there was someone on the other end of the phone. I eventually sold the house and received 45K more than listing price with other agent and 10K more than my minimum cut-off. They justified their fees in the deal!
Sean, Leoni, Georgia - all offered great support throughout the process. If I am ever buying or selling a property in Welwyn Garden city, William H Brown would be my first point of call.

This was my first time having to deal with finding and renting a property and I was a bit nervous. Which is why I’m so thankful for coming across William H Brown and India Bellak.
When me and my mum decided to move from London into Welwyn we found a flat we absolutely loved, unfortunately we did t get it. So we decided to visit several agents and just let them know what we were looking for.
India made the seemingly impossible absolutely possible. She found us a flat in the same complex we had liked but this flat was actually better situated then the one we had loved.
She managed to get is this flat in less than a week after our first meeting and we were able to move in two weeks time.

Worst estate agent in Welwyn Garden City
I should point out, my review is based on my experience renting a property through William H Brown, Welwyn Garden City, in 2016/17.
William H Brown were terrible! The corporate structure appears to be that William H Brown are part of a larger corporate network, headed up by Sequence Homes. This caused huge problems for me when trying to get my rental deposit back, as William H Brown didn't deal with this directly, instead it was Sequence Homes who were responsible for returning my deposit. However between the two entities, literally (almost) everything fell through the cracks. Forms were instructed to be sent from one to the other, but weren't, William H Brown thought Sequence Homes were doing something when actually they weren't, in the end it took well over 6 months for my deposit and the overpayment of my last month's rent to be returned. Not to mention the house I was renting was prone to flooding which was not disclosed to me in advance.

She was always available to answer queries whether on the phone or email, and never failed to come back to me when she had to go away to get the answer to a question. Her approach was nothing but professional, and she maintained honestly and trust throughout the entire process. She is personally, by far, the best estate agent I have dealt with. No task felt like a chore, and she was more than happy to accommodate where possible. Dishonest, arrogant and rude.
Do not attempt to sell via the Welwyn Garden City branch.
They will waste 6 weeks of your time with your house removed from the market for a buyer that hadn’t even provided sufficient I.D!!
(Something I would have expected to have been done before the gentleman in question was allowed to place offers and demand the house was removed from the market and further viewings cancelled) -which I did in good faith.
Grant the manager at WGC takes on average 4 days to respond to emails when asking for simple updates. He fobbed me off with ‘the buyers solicitors are waiting for draft contracts’ when in fact my solicitor hadn’t received anything from either WHB or the buyers solicitors. How can a solicitor draft a contract without even a name? So this was a lie to keep me quiet for a few more days!
Viewings always shoddy... Lights left on, sofa sat on, my fridge/freezer had even been turned off and started to defrost by the time I’d got home.
Not the service I expect when paying over 3grand in fees. The disappointing part is Grant knew how disappointed I had been with my previous agent, he promised I’d receive a better service from himself and his team at WHB.
I now need to add that Grant (branch manager) instead of acting professionally and apologising, is instead going around town bad mouthing me and asking people who know me on a personal level to have me take down this review.
I find this highly insulting, unprofessional and inappropriate. As a manager he should be aware this against any code of conduct and client confidentiality.
Head office are now aware of this poor management and disappointing practise.

Mortgage advise service is world class. Got my first mortgage here and remortgage, as you can imagine trying to understand was confusing at first but the mortgage advisor Clare Swatton was brilliant at explaining how things work in a way that you can understand, simple & clear. Any questions that came up in the process Clare was there to help explain and answer and also quick to respond. She was there every step of the way from start to finish. I came out of the process feeling empowered that I now know my stuff and can talk about mortgages confidently. I would steer away from these people. I would give a zero star if I could.
They wait until the last time to send the tenancy agreement (we receive ours just two days before moving) full of abusive clauses that they are not willing to change nor remove so they force people to accept it, as at that time we had already hire a moving company and gave notice to our previous Agent.
After moving we discover that the house has a pipe with Asbestos, the Agent did not tell us anything (they claimed they did not know...)

This agency is very quick to take your money, sign you up, but then leave you without necessities such as hot water for over 3 months. The landlord had a no approach attitude and the issue got so desperate, I held the rent to force a solution. Thank god for the TDS or I would have lost my whole deposit thanks to the landlords dirty tac tics. The worst case of hand washing I have ever seen, so long as they get your cash, they couldn't care less.

We experienced great service with viewing our rental property and locking it down with a deposit, but after this we didn't receive any correspondence. Despite paying a lot of money for admin fees and reference checks, William H Brown were unable to complete referencing in 1 week and in fact took over 2 weeks. We did not receive our tenancy agreement until the day we moved in, and were disappointed to not receive responses to emails asking where the document is and when we can expect it. In the end I did not hear back from any of my emails and our plans for our move in day were completely thrown off due to the agency being unable to do their job. Will not be renting through this agency in future.
