We had a terrible experience selling our flat via Winkworth Putney. They found a buyer and we accepted a lower offer given that they were a ‘cash’ purchaser, rejecting another offer in the process. Winkworth then tried to disguise and lie about the fact that the purchaser actually needed a mortgage for which they hadn’t even applied when making the offer. Indeed, Winkworth collided with the buyer throughout, trying to falsely blame our solicitors for delays when in fact the issue was that the buyer kept having mortgages refused, something Winkworth were fully informed about. All very stressful.
We complained to Winkworth but were just fobbed off with a line about property sales and purchases being unpredictable.
I hope there are some more honest estate agents in Putney who don’t fulfill the unscrupulous stereotype that we encountered at Winkworth. Avoid

I have known this branch of Winkworth for many years and have always observed the high level of service they provide to their clients. In a market which is increasingly populated by so called estate agents who do not appear to have the faintest idea what the word "agent" means and who instead appear to act merely as brokers, with their own interests firmly at the fore, Winkworth in Putney stand out, head and shoulders above the rest.
Up until last year, I have recommended them without having bought or sold through them but simply because they consistently demonstrate excellent knowledge of both the sales and letting market. This year, I can happily recommend them as a satisfied client for both sales and lettings. Initially they found us excellent tenants very quickly and handled the whole process very efficiently. We didn't instruct them to act as our managing agents but have no doubt that they would provide that service equally well. In a difficult market they then found us not one but two buyers at short notice. It is not unusual in any property transaction for there to be complications and, in every one that we experienced, Winkworth gave very good advice to us as clients, conscientious and sensitive contact with all parties and steered the sale through in a way that gave us confidence even at tricky moments.
So, if you are looking to sell or let your property locally, I recommend them whole heartedly. You will join the ranks of other clients who have experienced their high level of service. You can be confident that you have a very experienced and professional company acting as your agent - rather than just some self interested property broker. It's what you're paying them a fee for and it's worth it.
If you are buying or wishing to rent locally, I would recommend them also and if you don't find what you're looking for in their clients' properties, I'm sure you could retain them to act for you for a fee to search the market and negotiate on your behalf. They know their stuff and would be worth the fee.

We sold our Putney house in a difficult market. The property was in superb condition and had been empty for around 6m when we approached Winkworth. Having had the property on the market with another agent (and one with a very good "brand"), we were frustrated at the lack of progress, or even feedback of any sort, and decided to switch to Winkworth. We felt that Russell and Flora were very objective and realistic about discussing price expectations and, critically, were unafraid of passing back feedback - positive or negative - such that we could recalibrate the offer and get the job done. Most important by far for us was their commitment to provide timely and complete feedback on all viewings and basically "keep us in the loop". In this respect they did a first class job, and in a market where various business models are aiming to "disrupt" the agency model, we can only say that in this case the fee was well-earned and paid with pleasure. Superb job all around and let's face it - when the market is easy, stamp duty is low and "everything" is going up it's not difficult. When it's more difficult to effect a sale, it's time to bring in the professionals and pay them to work hard and get the job done. Highly recommended.
