Received a call from Mark re: Will writing service. He asked my family tree etc. I went over myself & partners family situation inc. businesses. I happened to mention a reference from a solicitor we spoke to some time ago. Mark asked his name, asked why we didn’t go to him for a Will, asked why we never chased him up, asked why we went back to this solicitor with business when we didn’t receive our will. Mark said this was unusual - I had to stop Mark by saying I wasn’t on the phone to speak ill of the said solicitor & it wasn’t my intention to go in depth with this, I was simply referencing a statement that had been said. Why mark felt the need to question this is confusing, had absolutely no merit to our tel call.
Anyway, I explained both myself & partner were looking for this service. Mark proceeded with he would be happy to take me on as a client for this but not my partner as there was a conflict of interest. I explained we were of the understanding what both parties want to include in the Will, with businesses this would be made easier with one solicitor and advice to both at the same time. I asked why he would refuse my partner as a client, he said he isn’t refusing however due to COVID-19 this service is more complex as there isn’t any face to face meeting. Communication is phone only, with a door step visit to sign off. I was confused by this, I asked we’ll surely this is the same process for myself? How is it any more complicated with my partner? I was repeatedly told, Kelly I have made myself clear I don’t know how else I can say this. But yet, he hadn’t made it clear at all. He said the reason for not being able to do my partners was due to COVID-19 restrictions, yet would be able to do mine, Mark - this is not clear and extremely confusing!
I asked in his professional opinion... I was responded with Kelly I don’t know how many time I have to say this - but Mark... you had not heard my question & it wasn’t something we had already covered = you came across very rude & arrogant.
This was then followed by, Kelly look this service isn’t a big financial service to a solicitor, it’s one of the less costs and with the added restrictions “we” don’t make much out of it. So what you are saying Mark is that my business wasn’t worth it as I wasn’t spending a lot? Why when I enquire with your practice you allow a tel call appointment to be set up then for new clients. However had your business manor been different and accepted both there would have been every chance we would have brought our other businesses to you - there’s always a bigger picture but you came across very small minded in this matter.
Anyway, mark finished with he’s be happy to take me on as a client to do my will but not my partners - but mark you said above you weren’t refusing my partner as a client but you just did.
And I am still not any clearer on the reasoning for this other than COVID-19 restrictions!
Based on this first encounter with this company and Mark I highly recommend you go elsewhere.
