Allen & Harris recently sold my first home. From Nick's first visit for the valuation, to the coordination of viewings, through to Kelly's monitoring the progress of the sale, it has all been first rate. Everyone in the office is friendly and supportive.
Nick talked me through his strategy for selling my home, and also understood that it was more than just a building to me. Kelly knew the area well and together (along with Dylan & Halah) they make a formidable team!
With this being my first home I was quite nervous about the process, but the kindness of everyone at Allen & Harris really made it such a painless experience, and I highly recommend them!

Ellise at this location was very helpful in connecting my partner to his new place/landlord. Can't speak to the company's property management or sales, but regarding her service to him as a tenant she was prompt, helpful, respectful, flexible, and understanding. She was relatively new to this branch, but worked hard to find answers any time she didn't yet have them on hand.
When there was a scheduling conflict between his move-in day and her day off, she went the extra mile, coming in throughout the day to finish off final details. I hope she has a great career and is appreciated for her work!
Also, if you like me are similarly new in the area--beware of Chancellors--they badgered to view properties, and then didn't answers to even basic questions regarding property maintenance timelines and procedures. They have a large presence, but weren't helpful. If you can, give Ellise at A&H (or honestly anywhere else) a shot first.
One thing I would be aware of (and the reason for the star subtraction) is that A&H's tenancy agreements (as expected) are very generic (so some terms won't apply to you, and they won't necessarily be willing to adjust them), and also very long. His was about 40 pages total including the helpful insert on how to be a good tenant in the UK. It only came a couple days before move-in day, so it was an absolute rush to read and request amendments, which have to be done by another office whose staff may or may not respond in a timely way. Make sure you have enough time set aside before your move in day so you can review them.
It's worth reading, as there are some consumer protections regarding when you may be able to get your deposit back, and what happens if there's an emergency at your property that makes it unlivable (you may be rehoused or allowed to break your lease) that might not be explained to you otherwise.
There is also a clause that was "impossible to remove" because it was standard requiring information sharing with OVO. No doubt a way for A&H/Sequence to make some extra money off commissions from tenants--not great in terms of only sharing what's strictly necessary to complete the transaction. Not the fault of this branch, but something to be aware of when you see emails from a services connection company called Tilli (connected with OVO) that will default to trying to switch you to OVO once you move.
Finally, just a suggestion since you may be moving if you're reading reviews--give TopCashback a shot when you're setting up internet (or getting new stuff/other services)--my partner found that we could get a substantial cashback ~90+ pounds, when we set up our new internet. Not sponsored at all, just worth knowing. Make sure you read the terms though, as if you don't stick with your contract long enough you may not be eligible. And another thing--if your lease is short (less than the 12 mo minimum term for your internet contract), you might be able to just finish the contract when you move into a new place if that internet brand still covers the area, or you can break your contract without fault if they don't cover the area. May save you vs. going on a month to month plan.
And if you're looking at used furniture, Gumtree and Freegle may be helpful.
For rental vans for your move, possibly avoid Europcar in Botley, their inventory management wasn't great. We reserved a smallish van and got a giant one without any notice, being told it was an upgrade. You may find yourself trying to navigate skinny streets in a vehicle far far bigger than you asked for, with little recourse other than to hope for the best, or reschedule your move.
I know this goes beyond A&H, but if you're moving, sometimes it's helpful to have some suggestions all in one spot.

I used to rent out a property through Allen & Harris but due to my daughter now living in the property Allen & Harris's services were no longer required, almost a year later i started to receive debt collection letters from an energy company that the previous tenant had a contract with so i spoke with Sulayman at Allen & Harris who went out of his way to help with a very stressful and complicated situation even though we no longer use there service.

During the tenancy I have run into issues with the property managers (a company called Sequence) being extremely slow and often confused about what they need to fix. Each time I run into a brick wall with Sequence, I call Sulayman and he seems to get things moving! It's nice having an agent who helps out renters, something I don't take for granted!

I’m appalled with how this company runs their business. We saw that this letter had been put through the door, and two signs had been put out front stating that our property had been ‘let by’ and also ‘sold’ by Allen & Harris. This is completely fabricated.
These are my main issues with how this was conducted.
1) Trespassing onto a privately owned property to put up their signs without consent.
2) False advertising to potential buyers (this house has never been on their books- ever).
What an extremely sleazy marketing method. After sending an email, the signs were taken down, however no apology was received. If your business is reliant to a local community, you need to build trust and reputation with said community. This has put me off conducting any business with Allen & Harris.

My wife and I viewed many homes in Oxford with different estate agents and Sulayman from Allen and Harris was by far the most professional and helpful agent we came across during our search. Unfortunately, on the day that we moved into our new apartment, we found that there were a number of serious problems with the place (hence why this is not a 5 star review). Apparently there had been a mix-up in dates and essential work had not been carried out before we moved in. However, we contacted Sulayman and he came over immediately and over the next couple of weeks he worked hard on our behalf to resolve all the issues. Although, we didn't have the best start in our new home, we appreciate all of Sulayman's efforts to fix things for us.

I am quite surprised their ratings are this high when they are known for shady practices. I suffered them in my own skin when, during lockdown, they bullied me out of my home because we were an "inconvenience" in their plans. They should shut down their business and do something else. Or nothing at all, really. Bad people doing things with no integrity have no place in society.

I originally wrote a good review after being prompted to by one of the letting agents (I expect a lot of the good reviews here are the same). However, the service I received since my review has been very poor. Allen and Harris have been fully managing my property and for the last 6 months I haven't been receiving rent on time once. Supposedly the reason recently has been because they've had issues with their financial systems. They have never rang me up proactively to explain this, I always have to chase them for my payments. I wouldn't recommend their fully managed services as a result. They get an extra star because their sales department seems to be operating a lot more efficiently.

A positive experience. I was speaking with James who was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful answering all the questions I asked, however small. At the very beginning I was indecisive on how to go about the whole process, and if I could actually afford to buy in Oxford. James provided quality advice and crucial information that allowed me to finally buy my first property! He kept the communication lines open throughout the whole process which took months, and provided reassurance that everything is coming together, a pleasure to deal with. What a fanatic agency! Sulayman & Sherko are the guys to work alongside. As a landlord it has been stressful due to being in a pandemic, however Sherko managed to get our property on the market with ease, clear communication and great ideas regarding the marketing of the property. Sulayman kept us in the loop with viewings and offers, he worked so hard to find the right tenant, always answers questions swiftly and easily. Now our property has been let and managed by Allen & Harris, Dyffdd, the property co-ordinator is our point of contact regarding any issues with the property, he is great and responsive. These guys go beyond to ensure they do what they say. Best management team in Oxford by far. I used other agents before and they are useless, over priced and a lot of talk and no action. If you want value for money, friendly, honesty and a friendly service Allen & Harris is the place to go to!

Poor experience. They weight 2 weeks then put the pressure on that the price needs reducing. All their proprties seem to be significantly reduced. They actually said to me everyone just looks on Rightmove so your agent doesn't make a difference. I feel they were lazy and didn't appear to know or want to know the great things about our house to pass onto the buyer. They just wanted a quick and easy sale and then when you drop the price by £10000 they say drop it by £10000. They were the ones that did the valuation! Needless to say we decided to stay put until out of contract, which was 4 month sole contract which they didn't point out to us at the initial signing. There pictures were also a little disappointing. We will be going to a more reputable company next time.

I don't know if this is the worst agency ever or is just the Oxford team. It's the second time when we try to see a property and every time we had to call them 3 times so they would send us the address. First time I was rational , saying maybe they are busy. But it happened again after a while, and after calling them twice and still no answer I decided that they worth the bother.
So I definitely won't recommend this agency to anyone.
