Very bad service! Very rude and chaos planning. I payed all the tenants fee and agreed the key collecting time, but just before that time about 12 hours agents told me lack a safety check, need delay. And next week when the new agreed key collection time came, agents told me need another safety check need another delay. I booked all the things about moving home, and checked out my current flat. These bad delays make me spend more money for moving home, this agency just very bad on planning their things and make customers inconvenient. Very angry about it.

Appaling property management and unfair fees. They are charging fees on uncollected rent of over £18,000 on two tenancies and did not tell me what was going on for many months. Made no real attempts to resolve matters beyond issuing standard arrears notices. Have allowed arrears to build up of over 12 months in one case and still wanted to create a fixed term renewal. In the other case, despite both me and tenants both wanting to leave Chancellors owing to poor service and poor communication, they continue to apply fees when tenants remain in situ even after you've left them. Making it very costly to leave. Their Be very careful in using them.

AVOID AT ANY COST if you are a landlord! Chancellors handled my last tenancy extremely poorly from start to finish. It was so bad I had to get the ombudsman involved who ruled against Chancellors and awarded significant compensation. From losing keys (and refusing to pay for them), to messing up the tenancy documentation, and a section 21 notice to evict my tenant, the whole process went by very poorly. Their 'fully managed' tenancy service means they contract out property management to a third party company in Bracknell (Thameside Property Management - google reviews if you don't believe how bad it is), so you won't get a local contact for PM tasks. TPM have a very high turnover rate of demoralized staff, who will ignore your calls and emails, and struggle to do their job properly. Please please save your sanity and go with another lettings agent if you are a landlord!

Do no use these people as a tenant. Moved into an unfurnished apartment to find it full of furniture. Their answer was to make me homeless at no charge which was very kind of them.
After dealing with the problem myself I have returned home from holiday to find the heating and hot water not working during winter. They did send someone to try fix the issue but that failed again so rang back at 15:31. Nothing happened at all. No call back, no one came to try fix it again. I was just ignored. Very unprofessional outfit.
Oh and the place was unclean with light fittings hanging down and a filthy balcony when I took possession.

Rhys could not have been more professional and dedicated in his desire to help us secure this fantastic flat!! It came at a challenging time when both myself and the landlord were due to leave the country in a matter of days so the pressure was on to secure the tenancy as soon as possible! However the referencing agency took longer than we thought and Rhys was left having to support us, steadying our nerves for two weeks whilst we were away and with very sporadic Wi-Fi!! Our son (who the flat was for) was due to start work a week after our return so it really was all systems go and Rhys held the fort superbly! We literally couldn’t have done it without him!

We sold our house with Chancellors after having it on the market for about 18 weeks, but only after dropping £50,000 from the original price that they were 'sure' it would sell for, so deserves stars for selling and somewhat quickly at that. We were nearing the end of our contracted time with Chancellors and were going to sell with another estate agent, but right at the end we got a buyer for the (3 times reduced) asking price.
In general though I was a little disappointed with the service. Minimal effort went in to the advertisement and it felt like once we signed up to sell with them that their enthusiasm reduced significantly. That being said, everyone was very polite and responsive when I phoned and asked them to be a bit more proactive with the advert.
In summary, were chancellors great? Not really, but I wouldn't exactly discourage anyone from using them, just manage your expectations.

Utterly useless...
Booked 2 viewings through chancellors for 2 properties. The first viewing was cancelled on the same day as the seller was proceeding with an offer they already had, had we been told there was already an offer accepted when we booked we wouldn't have wasted our time trying to view.
Second viewing, turned up outside the property at the time we booked on the phone but no one there, no one answers when calling the agent to check where they are, only to then find out the agent has booked the viewing in for the wrong day.
No customer service at all and will avoid Chancellors totally from here on.

The following review pertains to a recent house purchase. To begin, it is important to note that the agent, Harrison, was polite and accommodating to showing the property multiple times before the purchase. Additionally, the sales progression team member, Hannah, was energetic and diligent in following up on matters related to the sale.
However, there were some negative aspects of the experience that warrant attention. Firstly, the agent's handling of the offer acceptance process was less than satisfactory. Despite accepting my offer, the agent kept the property listing active and did not update it to indicate that the property was under offer or sold subject to contract. Only after I threatened to withdraw my offer did the agent comply with this simple request.
Furthermore, on the day of exchange and completion, there was a lack of communication from the agent's office. The keys to the property were not readily available, and the office staff were unable to locate them despite searching for almost an hour. They had even called a locksmith to open the house, but the keys were later found and provided by the seller. The Sales Director attitude was not apologetic and it was a stressful experience. The overall day that was supposed to be happy and exciting turned into a nightmare.

Lauren took into account the fact that I live very far away by conducting online viewings and providing me with a better alternative to suit my short deadline for the new job that I’m starting. She has made sure that this big transition was as smooth as possible, spoke to the landlord on my behalf and provided me with a proper list of things that I would require to pass through referencing.
Always responsive via Whatsapp messaging, even in the off hours, so there was no need to wait and go back and forth through e-mails which would’ve taken at least twice as long at the very least. She was also very patient with every silly question and mistake on my part.
Lauren is clearly passionate about her work and wants their client to be happy and anxiety free when it comes to big changes like moving halfway across the country.

I managed to rent a house with Chancellors! Very difficult to get hold of, almost every time ringing the Newbury office I was put through to head office, who promised to get Newbury to return my calls, but rarely did. Emails were rarely answered and requests for information were usually left unanswered. A lot of the houses on their website or on Right Move had already been let, or were going to be sold or for some reason weren't rentable anymore. One listing which had been left up since March I was worried had something wrong with it because it was a lovely property. Once I finally managed to get through to them, the property had been let months ago but the property was still up as a placeholder because they "often have properties in that area". They didn't get another property come up in that area while I was looking.
In terms of viewings, Chancellors weren't very flexible. I wasn't in the area and had a long drive to be able to see anything. I had planned a special trip on a Tuesday after being told to call up on Monday to see what I could see. During my call on Monday I was told they don't do viewings on Tuesday, so the trip was a waste of time and money. However, subsequent viewings were timely and good. Some of the agents were not very knowledgeable about the properties, but others were very helpful.
I think the experience did change a little once I lost out on the first property I was trying to go for. After the viewing, I got my application form in quickly, just for the landlord to say they wanted to sell instead. The property is still up as rentable on the website despite it definitely being up for sale now. After this, it seemed like the agents were on our side, being a little more proactive in recommending properties and taking us for viewings.
Once you get past the customer stage (when the application has been accepted by the landlord) you get passed on to a new department to do the paper work. Rosie was lovely to work with, letting me know what was going on, being always available by phone when I needed her, and honestly felt like she was on my side (which is the least you can ask for). Chancellors use the Lettings Hub for references. This review is about Chancellors so I won't talk about how terrible a platform that is, but my advice is to get started with the Lettings Hub as early as possible, even when you have just started looking as it will take a very long time for them to do anything. Honestly hoping Chancellors move to a different referencing company but I digress.
They have a lot of properties, I don't know what benefits they offer to landlords but it must be worth it for them! Given the market in Newbury, Chancellors is a good estate agent to focus your time on as they will have new properties every week. Properties go fast though, so if you want something you better try your best to get your foot in the door.

It’s a miracle if you manage to get through to the Newbury branch rather than some poor sod in their head office who can only promise to get you an ‘urgent callback’. I suggest they look up what urgent means.
Unfortunately, this awful company has a monopoly on rentals in Newbury ????
Edit: I have spoken to one of the directors who apologised for the poor communication.

I chose unwisely. When looking to rent out my property in Hungerford I decided to go with Chancellor’s. It’s been a complete shambles from the start- but unfortunately I had already signed the paperwork by then. They advertise as ‘property management’. My property has been totally mismanaged from the start. And the list gets longer. Different departments dealing with different aspects of the rental- none of which seem to converse with each other. I am constantly requesting for things to be rectified with no results. If you are a potential landlord- go elsewhere.

Chancellor helped me to get the apartment. In the end I got the good apartment so thanks for that . They always treat very well whenever i visited the office but there are few improvement that can be done as I have faced some issue also like.
1. People i was talking initially left so i was not getting any information and even this was not passed to right people. I need to follow up multiple times so that it can be picked up.
2. Whole process for me taken more time then expected. around a month or more.
3. It will help if someone can show us how to use the appliances and important things about electricity as I am new to UK and dont know all the basic details.

Edited review. Really thought these guys were going to help me find a property to let. Turns out they think it’s acceptable to rearrange a viewing the day before without asking if it’s ok first. I had already confirmed the viewing in the morning! I can’t understand why these agents think we can drop everything see a property. I work for a living! I have already arranged things with work to come to the viewing and my partner was leaving work in London too. No returning my call either. Very disappointing and will not be using these guys. I’ll find a more reliable agents.

I am in the process of moving to a new rented accomidation so have to approach different agencies when properties I am interested in being listed. Having very poor mobile signal at work makes it extremely difficult to organise viewings. Brooke from Chancellors have made multiple attempts to reach me after I left messages for her about properties she was "looking after". After many failed attempts to catch each other available on the phone, we managed to have a pleasant chat in the end and arrange some viewings. I appreciate the effort Brooke put into trying to reach me. This is obviously just the first step and more will follow but I am hoping it will be mostly positive experience. I will update this review as my dealings with Chancellors progress.

So they are very nice until they take your money from you after this they don't know you.
They put me to pay first week deposit £206, to cancel the property which I wanna rent it from market but they didn't cancelled nothing +£895 first month rent starting tenancy on 22/03/2022 .
The application wasn't successful ,not my fault and after this today I called them back to give my money back ,so they asked me: "Are you not moving in already, in our sistem shows us that you are moved in.....???? How we can trust in such people????

How appalling that they keep sending emails to my Mum's email address even though she has passed away. It's a nightmare to deal with the Newbury agents. It has been almost a month since I vacated the property and the deposit has not been refunded. I've emailed them multiple times. All I get in response is we will attempt to contact the landlord. I also expect to receive a refund of the additional rent that was deducted due to auto debit. According to the agnecy, the refund should take three to five days to process. I haven't received news about the rent refund yet either. Having followed up several times with no result makes me feel tired.

Terrible experience with Chancellors, I've called numerous times about a property they have for sale. I always get redirected to head office as nobody ever seems to answer the phone at the Newbury branch. I've left 4 messages for a call back about a property, and nothing. Complete silence. Cannot believe I've had to chase this much just to ask some questions about a property.
If you're looking to sell your house with these guys I'd probably stay clear, unless you want them to ignore potential buyers!

Had a very good check in tenancy experience. Everything was dealt with speed and I felt supported. A shame that the entire experience got ruined by the check out process. After having a very quick agreement from the landlady that the deposit should be returned in full, Chancellors took about a month to provide the money back. Not only that took longer than the 10 days imposed by the Government, but also there was never any sort of escalation or managerial attempt to support. Really felt like my complaints were not taken seriously after sending so many emails. Very disappointed with the overall experience and therefore cannot recommend. Even started approaching TDS directly and was about to initiate a dispute. Totally unnecessary drama for such a simple deposit situation.

I recently moved to Newbury and needed one rented accommodation, so I checked online and contacted Chancellors.
Then at time of viewing I pointed few defects with property and I was assured from the AGENT that they'll be treated apart from the dirty carpet as Owner is not willing to spend much.. Still I agreed and mentioned in mail immediately after viewing, but these people tried to play smart and they didn't added this to agreement, which I was not aware of.
As molds in house, window are not closing, shower not working, carpet cleaning, Broken Blind replacement, broken handles and fresh paint and similar issues were already conveyed to Agent by me over mail and she talked it over the phone as well.
They delivered the house to me after 10 days and when I saw property upon entrance, nothing was done.
And Now Chancellor told me check with Thames property Management which I suppose is third party who maintains the house. So, i checked with them and now they're taking so much time its been almost month since I'm checked in. And just shower is replaced so far after reminders.
And when I requested to get the work done ASAP, now they're telling we're trying but it was not in agreement, But I told her I clearly conveyed the issues in mail and it should be responsibility/job of Agent to take corrective action in agreement or what ever they do.
Still I'm waiting for work to be completed.

Nightmare dealing with Chancellors Newbury as a tenant.
House was listed as available on 28th Aug. We go ahead with this and start organising around that day. Turns out it's not available that day and earliest we can move in is the 1st Sept. Not a big issue, annoying, but we could work around that. Partner starts work on 3rd, so gives 2 days to get unpacked.
For 3 weeks leading up to that date, we're chasing for tenancy agreement. All forms we had been sent now mysteriously had 4th Sept, and I repeatedly asked for this to be corrected to the 1st Sept as we had now agreed, but nothing came.
Tenancy agreement finally comes 2 working days before we move in. Wrong date. I chase this and 1 working day before we move in, we finally get a tenancy agreement with the correct date. I pay the deposit and rent, and think that all the stress and hassle with Chancellors is now behind us, but little did I know...
Moving day. I call Chancellors to arrange getting the keys. 3 calls (9am, 9.30am, 10am), all get diverted to Chancellors HQ (bracknell) because no one answers phones in Chancellors Newbury. I'm told all 3 times that they'll mark it as urgent and I should get a call shortly. Finally I get a response from Chancellors about 2hrs after they've opened. They tell me I have to collect keys from Landlord. I call the landlord and he is not in the country at the time. He says Chancellors have the keys, but I can collect his spare from his daughter. 2hr round trip, where I only manage to get a single front door key. The furniture doesn't fit through the front door. Fed up, we drive to Chancellors Newbury, as the landlord said they have the full set of keys.
Arrive at Chancellors and they say that the landlord hasn't done the electrical safety certificate and that they cannot hand over the keys (the keys they told me the landlord had!!) because they're facing a £30k fine if they do that. Why not tell me that in the first place rather than making me drive around Hampshire? The manager there (Sue, I believe) explains she can only give the keys to the landlord or an electrician. So we're stuck. Vans full of furniture, and no where to go. No sincere apology, or help to arrange an electrician to come out and sort it immediately. She just blames the landlord. We don't care who's fault it is, we just want to move in, as we had arranged with Chancellors to move that day.
Finally get the keys when someone the landlord has sent comes to Chancellors. He takes the keys from them, walks 2m and passes them to us.
Since then, no apology. Nothing from Chancellors to apologise for not checking the property was ready to move into on the day we agreed with them. Nothing from them to apologise for making us drive halfway round Hampshire to find keys which they actually had. Very poor handling of the whole situation.
Where possible, avoid using Chancellors! Extremely poor organisational skills throughout the entire process then just blame the landlord when Chancellors themselves were the only people we were dealing with.

Absolutely terrible, avoid if you can. Their property management is the most frustrating bunch of people I've ever had to deal with. The first guy we had Rob did absolutely nothing to deal with any of the issues in my flat, and when he actually did do something he did everything wrong, I ended up just going via my landlord instead because at least it would actually get done. I was on good terms with my landlord, and he agreed that he would release my deposit in full, unfortunately chancellors did not. I spent three days arguing with them, they claimed that I had missed payments, owed them fees which were never made aware to me in the contract. I had to send them bank statements, ask them to send me evidence in the contract where I owed these fees. Of course they couldn't send me any evidence because these fees never existed, and I finally got my money released. But yeah, just don't bother.

The Newbury branch is the WORST estate agency I have ever dealt with. They have zero care for any tenants. And do all they can to prevent you obtaining your deposit back.
I accepted to live at one of their properties after I was told that the property would be professionally cleaned before I moved in. I told them that the flat was unfit to live in and that I had asthma so the flat needed to be cleaned. They assured me that the flat would be cleaned. When i returned at the start of my tenancy I found that the flat was still very unclean and began coughing uncontrollably. I had to get the flat cleaned personally, at great expense. The company said they'd do a second clean but this was two weeks into my tenancy. This showed a high level of disorganisation and a lack of etiquette from chancellors.
They often do not respond to emails, claiming that they are too busy.
I always pay rent on time and have been more than accommodating for their lack of professionalism.
They are now trying to prevent me from obtaining my deposit back at all costs and are trying to claim money on the problems I brought up with the company prior to accepting tenancy.
The carpets were filthy on arrival and there were iron marks on them. Val Smith did not record this but did record them after I left the property and is now trying to use this to stop me getting my deposit back!

I visited several estate agent offices in Newbury and met several agents as I viewed different properties. Chancellors (and agent Sally Stevens) stood out for several reasons. I found Ms. Stevens to be extremely professional and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. I trusted her and the Chancellors team immediately, and never felt that they were trying to push me into a decision or use any obvious selling techniques. Rather, they enthused about the property, gave me time to consider, but when the time came to make an offer they negotiated swiftly and effectively on my behalf so that I felt I had a great property at a fair price. Throughout the sale process they kept themselves updated with how things were progressing and called me and answered my emails by return to offer help or advice. (Nicole Puckett at Chancellors Head Office was excellent in pushing the seller's solicitor for the information that was needed in order to complete the sale.) I live in Bolton. I'm looking to buy a property in Newbury. Phoned Chancellors on 16th April while in Newbury to get details of a property added on rightmove on 15th April. Newbury office was busy but gentleman who answered call at another office assured me someone would phone back same day before I headed back north. Guess what - no one did. Back in Newbury next week so contacted Newbury office and arranged viewing. Spotted deliberate mistake - they hadn't told me address of property! I have a problem with time of appointment so phoned Newbury office at 4.30ish yesterday to try and reschedule by 30 minutes. Was advised someone would phone me back before they closed. You guessed it - nobody did. Have phoned again today and spoken to lovely lady who was going to message the Newbury office manager to try and help us. Now been waiting 4 hours and no response. Trying to view a property with Chancellors is not easy, trying to sell one through them must be a real challenge. I'm told the internet is the future, so once this review is posted I'll see if I get a good old fashioned phone call but not holding my breath!

In particular Jack Flanagan who facilitated the sale, he was incredibly friendly and professional. Our experience of Chancellors has been excellent. Maxine was fantastic from the start. She met us at a difficult time just after Mum had passed away and understood how we were feeling. The house was marketed and Maxine was enthusiastic about the house and positive in every respect, all the time respectful for our feelings for a house that had been a family home.
Feedback was excellent and the sale went through very smoothly and quickly.
We would have no hesitation using Chancellors again, and particularly Maxine.
I am from a Sales and Marketing background and it is not very often I see someone as professional and charismatic as Maxine was throughout, not only did she look after us she also look after the purchaser throughout the transaction.

Chancellors were great. They kept in touch with us throughout the whole process from start to finish. I didn't matter who in the office I spoke to as everyone was familiar with the property I was selling. They even attained full asking price. I would certainly use Chancellors again in the future.

After moving home several times over the last few years. I appreciate how difficult can be to find a good estate agent. However, when we recently sold a property near Newbury, luckily for us, we found a very professional agent at the Newbury branch of Chancellors. If anyone is considering selling I would have no problem in recommending Maxine Hall, working at this branch of Chancellors. She proved to be most helpful and very professional during the process and through to completion. A very good service.

my wife and I have been in the market for our first home for the past 6 months, and after looking at a few properties we have finally found our perfect home and we cant praise chancellors enough! as new buyers we have had a lot of questions but Max and Caroline have been fantastic and even if our questions were small or what seems silly they always answered them to the best of their ability at any time promptly and with a real personality. what we loved about them is that they are people not just estate agents!!! thank you chancellors

Amazing gaggle of girls! Can't speak highly enough of the service we received while selling our house. They really understood our particular situation with having two small children and went above and beyond to support us throughout the whole process. Not only did they do a great job of holding my hand, guiding me through each stage, but quite literally held my children's hands.

We started our house selling journey through another agent. They sold themselves to us extremely well, I just wish they'd done the same job in selling our house.
We decided to change agents and on the recommendation of a friend we approached Chancellors. From that first contact, to meeting Caroline for the valuation, to signing up, through regular calls from Sarah, Max, and Caroline, regular emails, constant feedback about the viewings, a veritable conveyer belt of prospective purchasers, two of which had made appointments to see the house before the photographer had been around which just shows that they were selling our house straightaway and knew their clientele. A week & a half down the line we had three offers, 1 under the asking price, 2 at the asking price.
There is not a single thing I would change about Chancellors, they have been perfect. I just wish we'd started with them.

People often say selling a house is one of the most stressful times in your life! all I can say is either I'm extreamly relaxed about these types of things or Chancellors did such a great job I didn't notice I was suposed to be stressed! Selling our house with Chancellors was simple, smooth and very professional with a human touch. Caroline and the rest of the team were great to work with and listened to my requirements and instructions (which is rare with estate agents, judging by other poeples experience!) and acted upon them with the utmost competence and professionalism. I would strongly recommend Chancellors services and will definately use again in the future....

Our journey started a year ago when myself and husband visited all the local agents to see what property's were on the market and to get ourselves registered. Within days we started receiving the standard email notifications from most of the agents, Sue Palmer at Chancellors went one step further and would also give me a regular call and advised me of new houses that had come onto the market.
Finally we found a house that we were interested in (unfortunately this was with another agent) we went into the branch explained that we were not yet on the market but asked if we could view the property in question, after viewing the property and liking it we expected a follow up call from the agent but all we got was silence. A week later we contacted the agent and told them we were interested in the property we were advised that we should make an offer on it. As we were still not on the market and obviously not sold our house we did not feel this was an option although we did say we would be prepared to pay full asking price, we left the agents and heard nothing again from them.
We were now ready to market our house and needed to make the decision on which agent to use, my initial thoughts were to use the agents that we were hoping to purchase our next property through but from my experience with lack of feedback and follow up calls trying to buy through them I started to question do I wish to sell through them? One of my neighbors had just sold their house with this agent so I asked them for a recommendation, needless to say my initial concerns were confirmed and I was advised not to use them.
As if by magic a hour later I had a call from Maxine Hall at Chancellors asking how the property hunt was going? I explained I needed to put the house on the market she promptly arranged for her manager Caroline Florence to come and do a valuation. I have to say I was a bit concerned as I had not had any friends who had used Chancellors to market their property so I was heading into unknown territory, I need not have worried as the minute Caroline came through my front door I knew we had made the right choice using them to sell my home, she gave me an idea of the property value and explained how Chancellors would market the property for me.
We signed the contract on Wednesday and by Friday we had our first viewing, I am very pleased to say that just three weeks later and 28 viewings (some of these were second) all of which were accompanied by one of the lovely girls from the branch we had 4 people bidding on our property. I am pleased to say we managed to sell for more than we had marketed it for (thanks Caroline for some great negotiating).
So if you are reading this and wondering if you should use the services of Chancellors Newbury branch I would say it's a no brainier go for it, for us they did exactly what they said they would do and we cannot thank them enough.

We've been so impressed by her professional advise and enthusiasm and within a couple of weeks we sold our house and agreed to purchase another house (with Chancellors as well).

After looking at several houses for sale in this area with other estate agents, I was not impressed by either the description/quality of the houses on viewing, or the manner in which the viewings were conducted. I then contacted Chancellors and had a conversation with Maxine Hall who turned out to an excellent agent for the company. While conducting viewings there was no pressure on time, or pressure selling. Her conduct and advice was exemplary from the first contact to the day we picked up the keys to our new house. I would recommend Chancellors to anyone and also highly recommend Maxine.

I have just rented a home and I am VERY pleased with how my family and I were treated. Jess was extremely knowledgeable on the house and was knew exactly what to do when it came to doing the paperwork.
Processing the paperwork was very quick. Nathan and Jess worked very well together and I am very pleased with how it all turned out.
I am from the U.S. and I am new to the U.K. I was very pleased with working with Chancellors and I would recommend going to that letting agency to any U.K. or U.S. citizen.

They were quick off the mark (unlike other letting companies) and since the initial introduction, they have consistently done what they said they would do. That's really important to me. Their tenant verification process seems very good - and quick - and I hope to have a long relationship with them.

I have let my unfurnished property through Chancellors since 2006 and they have always found me excellent tenants. Henry and his team are all delightful to work with, and are extremely professional and efficient. They really reduce the hassle and worry normally associated with letting. I wouldn't use any other agency.
