Absolutely terrible, avoid if you can. Their property management is the most frustrating bunch of people I've ever had to deal with. The first guy we had Rob did absolutely nothing to deal with any of the issues in my flat, and when he actually did do something he did everything wrong, I ended up just going via my landlord instead because at least it would actually get done. I was on good terms with my landlord, and he agreed that he would release my deposit in full, unfortunately chancellors did not. I spent three days arguing with them, they claimed that I had missed payments, owed them fees which were never made aware to me in the contract. I had to send them bank statements, ask them to send me evidence in the contract where I owed these fees. Of course they couldn't send me any evidence because these fees never existed, and I finally got my money released. But yeah, just don't bother.

First time buyer, after speaking with Chris Donnellan from Chancellors he has really put my mind at ease and gladly looks into any enquiries I have! ???? Recommend.

I am absolutely shocked at the way chancellor's has not helped me in getting my deposit back from the landlord! They have not been helpful and I would never use them again

If it is integrity you are looking for in an estate agent then Chancellors of Newbury is a shining example. It was a refreshing experinece to encounter Luke (the manager) and Zoe (their wonderful agent) from the sales team in Newbury as we have experienced nothing but excellence and efficiency combined with the highest levels of professionalism from two people who are clearly a credit not only to themselves and their company but also to us as the clients they represent, comunicating to us with honest, transparent, advice and feedback. I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone considering selling their property regardless of the size or value as it is clear they are easily able to compete at every level in the market place whatever the numbers involved.

Don’t deal with them

I book an appointment to view a house in Newbury area , I travel from Bridgend just to see it , after I go to there office to do some paperwork then back home in Bridgend, after 1 hour they call me and told me someone else top up the price for 940£ ( on the market was 900£ ) and if I want to put more to take the house ...so I lose my time , spend money on the fuel for what ? Because they like to play like this. They should be called Action Estate Agency . Do not deal with them . Bad estates !!!!

The Newbury branch is the WORST estate agency I have ever dealt with. They have zero care for any tenants. And do all they can to prevent you obtaining your deposit back.

I accepted to live at one of their properties after I was told that the property would be professionally cleaned before I moved in. I told them that the flat was unfit to live in and that I had asthma so the flat needed to be cleaned. They assured me that the flat would be cleaned. When i returned at the start of my tenancy I found that the flat was still very unclean and began coughing uncontrollably. I had to get the flat cleaned personally, at great expense. The company said they'd do a second clean but this was two weeks into my tenancy. This showed a high level of disorganisation and a lack of etiquette from chancellors.

They often do not respond to emails, claiming that they are too busy.

I always pay rent on time and have been more than accommodating for their lack of professionalism.

They are now trying to prevent me from obtaining my deposit back at all costs and are trying to claim money on the problems I brought up with the company prior to accepting tenancy.

The carpets were filthy on arrival and there were iron marks on them. Val Smith did not record this but did record them after I left the property and is now trying to use this to stop me getting my deposit back!

DO NOT USE THIS ESTATE AGENCY.

Avoid them at all costs!
Their business model for advertising properties for sale is, go see the seller and convince them they can sell the house for a higher price than other estate agents as they have sold a lot in the area, win the business and then just a week and half later, get a team manager from the head office in Bracknell to lower the price as there are not enough viewings and it keeps going on and on. Don't be fooled by their proactiveness and speed to get you on the market, that's literally all they care about (The 1 star is for that). You will only get viewers who are never interested to spend anything close to what you have advertised it for, ending in receiving constant feedback from viewers saying 'They feel they could secure a property larger than your's at a better price'.
To top it all off, they managed to loose hold of our only buyer, who gave an offer, which we eventually accepted (on the same day) and we were being mis-guided by saying they couldn't get hold of the buyer, whereas we found out that Chancellors never followed up with our buyer, so he ended up buying few other properties, being an investor.
14 weeks into a 16 week contract with them, I felt this was just a waste of time and lodged a complaint with their Directors and to their head office and requested to stop all services for us, which they did eventually after another few round of email pestering. It has been more than 2 weeks now and I haven't heard anything back anything regarding the complaint, except for a complaint acknowledgement email and the head office saying they are 'investigating' call records.
Unless you have lots of time to spare and don't mind dressing up your house for viewers who will never make you an offer near to your asking price, as they are never intending to buy a house around that price, which I believe none of you would been keen on, stay away from them. Absolute cons!
PS: To put a contrast into the whole aspect, we ended up going with Bairstow Eves and they sold our house for 99% of the asking price and in just the third viewing. This is how quick things could have been done!

Had a terrible experience at Chancellors & we are now seeking a lawyer to get a view on our situation.

We found a premium flat on Abbey Road we loved. We made an offer, the land lady was still thinking on it. We were on a deadline to get a new place, so we made an offer on another flat with another agent, with a deposit.

Chancellors came back to us & said the land lady accepted our offer. My father wrote ‘are you sure because we will lose our deposit elsewhere’. An agent called Jack Vacher assured us we would get the flat.

We lost our deposit, & gave a debit card guarantee for payment to Chancellors:

The very next day, Chancellors refused to honour our agreement. We are now abroad on holiday, with no apartment in London when we arrive.

I am appalled. The mental stress, the financial loss & the time Chancellors has wasted with us is totally unprofessional. They said the land lady said she found tenants who can move in 1 week earlier.

We are physically not in the country to move in any earlier. We were crystal clear from the beginning on our move in date for March 1st. We never wavered from this.

It’s pathetic that we were asked to match a new offer after our agreement, for a menial more sum of 1 week more. Because it’s really not about that more menial amount of money - once you cross a certain threshold of rent per month ofcourse one can afford it.

It is the sheer disrespect of our agreement which is totally unethical. I have everything in writing on all agreements & emails, & I have written this review under my legitimate real Google profile so that others can be warned.

And Chancellors can do a reply on this to say ‘We’re sorry for your experience’, well I’m sorry we’re going to have to go to a lawyer.

Furthermore, Chancellors then emailed across a new flat we could go look at - the sheer audacity as if we would EVER trust them again! I’ve met graduates who are estate agents and don’t mess clients around this month. It’s not normal behaviour and they’re just in the game to make a quick buck.

Just adding to my review - Today Chancellor’s readvertised the property we were about to rent, showing that the land lady has discriminated against us, possibly racist because clearly there’s no other offer. I have complained to the Property Obudsman and 2 media outlets now in London.

Dominic is good guy but Jack Vacher not. We now moved to Marylebone but got better place Jack trying to cheat us pretend other offers but no offer no buyer. We not from London we from Arabia and he take advantage
