After sitting on the market for 3 months with a different estate agent in BSE, I made the decision to move to Martin & Co, a decision I wish I’d have made 3 months sooner. Justine came out to value my property, she was very friendly, easy to talk to, direct but most importantly very knowledgeable and up to date with the property market in BSE. After less than a week on the market I accepted an offer above the asking price. The communication throughout from Justine and Charlotte was excellent, I couldn’t have asked for anymore. We needed a valuation urgently on our property and asked Justine from Martin & Co estate agents to attend. She came the very next day, was on time and was highly informative and professional.
We had a lot of questions regarding the process of renting and selling properties and the wealth of knowledge is not just vast but up to date, accurate and relevant. Justine was honest when asked questions but at the same time very respectful of our home.
Justine was so friendly and made us feel comfortable so that we could ask any questions we had. There was no pressure - just a friendly, knowledgable and highly professional service.

Be careful with your deposit. This company is very sneaky and will take at least half of it for 'cleaning' and minor damage which should come under wear and tear if you're an occupant of the house/flat for a certain period of time. They WILL NOT take this into account which is illegal. They will also avoid or defer discussions on the matter to other companies like DPS which makes it harder to claim your deposit back. They will also ignore black mould in a bathroom, even when asked to do something about it, and were slow to reply (weeks) on anything financial. Untrustworthy, unscrupulous and thieving.

As young, professional, newcomers to the world of renting, our experience with Oliver nearly put us off trying to find a house altogether.
We were left between a rock and a hard place when we asked for a second viewing after being chosen first by the landlord (due to my disability and inability to get to the first viewing with my partner), as Oliver told me that the landlord was unsure of us if we were unsure. Oliver knew the details of my circumstances but left us feeling that if we wanted somewhere to live, we had to pay up - so I paid the £200 holding deposit.
As we went through referencing, my partner failed on the grounds of an undisclosed CCJ - something neither of us knew about.
I tried tirelessly to work with Oliver to find a way to work with this information and keep the house, but he was more interested in flash side of the job, rather than doing any actual work. I submitted a SAR to find out more information of the supposed judgement and even ask to be referenced alone - but was told I didn’t reach the threshold salary.
I then started to research the referencing guidelines for tenants, where I found that I could have been referenced alone as I had a guarantor - something which, again, Oliver knew I had.
Eventually, Oliver said the only way to be able to move into the property was to pay a shortfall of £2000 upfront, which just wasn’t feasible.
We lost the property and was told I would not get my holding deposit back on the grounds of an undisclosed CCJ, to which I asked how can I do anything with something I don’t know about - Oliver’s predictable response was ‘I don’t know how to answer that’.
I still have not had my holding deposit back, despite not being the ones to pull out of the situation - Oliver made that decision for us.
Absolutely fuming, will never recommend and have avoided all properties to let by Martin & CO since.

Cannot fault the service from Martin & Co. From the outset, approaching them looking to rent privately in difficult personal circumstances they could not have been more understanding and helpful. I rented an older property that did have a lot of issues throughout the tenancy but I cannot fault Martin & Co's response, everything was dealt with quickly and efficiently with no chasing from me. It is pretty rare that you encounter a business like this where they are truly providing an excellent service in all circumstances. Wholeheartedly recommend them.

I cannot believe how poor Martin and Co Bury St Edmunds are. I understand during Covid things are slower and staff are stretched however every other estate agent I have dealt with through the pandemic have been working without any change in service. Me and my partner are currently about to complete our sale and become chain free and are keen as mustard to buy a new property and I requested details for 2 different properties through right move, called 4 times twice leaving messages and then twice leaving my details with someone supposed to 'call me back when they have time' to arrange viewings and 3 weeks later and numerous emails to them (without a single reply) I’ve had no contact.
Both properties we were interested in on rightmove are marked SSTC (3 weeks later from our initial contact) which is disappointing for us as it would have been nice to at least see the properties but equally not the end of the world as there will be others out there for us to buy.
However if you are thinking of selling your house through them, don’t. Bear in mind our position, which they are well aware of from calls and emails, and this is how they treat potential buyers. They won’t come back to us to arrange a viewing on your property. You could be missing out on offers if they're marketing it.

My husband and I highly recommend Martin & Co in Bury St Edmunds for any military personnel looking for a property to let in Bury.
Being new to the UK, we didn't know much about what to expect with properties or the ins and outs of letting one. Thankfully, from the beginning Chloe organized six viewings of properties within our budget that were pet friendly and transported us to them (great when we only had a rental and didn't know the area well). When she was on holiday John continued the search for a property for us. After talking with us more, he thought he had the perfect property that we had not seen anywhere online, and he was correct. The house met all of our specifications and we immediately fell in love.
Tamara was our point of contact for signing our actual lease. She ensured that we had any clauses included for military and provided us with many supporting documents to make our transition to the UK easier.
Overall, Martin & Co went above and beyond to find us our new home. They have a vast numbers of properties to let in the area that give options for any budget and requirements.

When I first moved to the UK, I looked at Bury. St. Edmunds as my first choice to move into because I found a really nice property on "Right Move UK", but it wasn't just the place that I loved about it. Soon as I walked in, the whole team gave me a warm welcome and answered any questions I had! The individual who showed me my place, John Arnold, went above and beyond what was required. Any time I had an issue, whether it was water or heating, he came on by and helped me sort it out. Recently purchased a property through the Bury Branch. The viewing was smooth and professionally handled. Once the offer on house accepted Rachel from Newmarket Office became our liaison person. She was fantastic. Kept us constantly up to date on the chain, always phoned when promised and was so good when we had to move very quickly at the end, helping to find removers etc. I cannot praise her highly enough.
Without her help we would have been completely in the dark as we did not get this type of service from our selling agent. Thanks to all the team at Martin & Co.
