Absolutely rubbish company. Requested to view 3 different properties in the last week, via phone and using Rightmove and their own website. Not heard back once!
I then rang to ask to speak to someone, they took my details, and again, never contacted me back (that was a week ago now).
How can you trust a company with selling / renting your flat if they can't even answer an email or return a call? Amateurs with zero customer focus. AVOID

I've just completed on a property with Martin and Co. Leanne Levy mortgage advisor provided exceptional service by finding very low interest deal with fixed rate for 5 yards. Money getting from the bank process went so smooth and fast that hard to believe. Charlotte and Joanna extremely professional agents, found suitable for me property faster than in an a week. ( and I had quite few specific requirements for property I want) Whole Martin & Co team have been very helpful, and provided support in every step during the purchase. I had quite tiny deadline to buy a property and they hit it very easy, leaving almost 2 months extra time for me. I'm very pleased with their service and professionalism. Must be a pre requisite to work at Martin & Co, ignore the phone and any email enquiries. Been trying to book a viewing for a specific property for a while now but to no success as my tenancy is nearly up with another company. Even prior to moving to my current property, I was still faced with the same problems at Martin & Co, no one answering anything. Shocking how they're still in business if they cant respond to business.
Looking at the response from the owner on these reviews too, I'd love to see them say "You never left any details" I've called the central team 5 times in the last 5 days trying to reach the office but to no success.

I have spent almost 3 weeks trying to book a viewing for a rental property but have been unable to speak to the lettings team. Every time I call it goes through to a central team, who record a callback request without any follow up. I can only imagine how useless Martin & Co would be managing a rental property if they can’t even return a phone call

It took three days to arrange a viewing on a property due to not receiving call backs and when one was finally confirmed, the company failed to give me the full address. I made numerous calls before the viewing only to get through to a customer service agent and be told they would let me know before the appointment - which they never did and I lost out on the property.

I was recently looking for my very first apartment and viewed a property managed by Martin and co. I was first met by Inigo who was a fantastic agent who made sure to show me everything about the apartment and also squeeze in quick viewings of other apartments which was a last minute request from me. Very friendly and conversational which definitely made it a lot easier to work through the process. I left very happy with the property and over the coming weeks everytime I had a question Inigo was at the end of the line there to answer.
After being accepted for my studio flat Rhiannon, Leanne and Gaynor were there to support me from referencing to random questions I had about renting due to it being my first time. All 3 of them were and continue to be so patient and I'm so pleased I got to deal with an agency who not only has the best interests of the landlord in mind but also looks out for the tenant to make sure all is in place for the move and there after.
I can't recommend Martin and Co enough if you're a tenant looking for a home and I can only imagine landlords must be over the moon with them too! Nothing is ever too much for the whole team there, even when things go wrong they are super prompt to make sure problems are rectified as quickly as feasibly possible. Couldn't have asked for a better moving in experience just before Christmas. Thank you again.

Martin & Co launched a truly effective advertisement & marketing campaign for the sale of our BTL flat at Southend-on-Sea. They lined up three potential buyers within the very first week of advertisement & sealed the deal . They also forwarded us recommendations for two local solicitor firms but with no obligations.
At no point through the sale process we felt pushed or pressurised. Excellent advice & two way communications . We felt very supported all through the process till the completion of sale happened .

Worse agency ever. I have tried calling them every day as I had interest of buying a property and wanted to ask some questions. But they were never able to answer anything about the property as receptionist always answered the phone and his only answer was that agent will call me back to answer all my questions. Today is third day and still no one called me back, knowing I contacted them every day to inform that I am still waiting to return my phone call. So if you selling your property through Martin&Co and still have not sold it that’s because they have no interest of contacting buyers.

I have tried two different times to rent two different properties and on both occasions they responded after days and when I finally got to arrange a viewing they immediately said it was no longer available and already let.
I was within the first ones to call and enquire about the properties and after days and days they tell me it's not available anymore. Very poor communication, always had to keep calling the office because the agents didn't respond any text messages, emails or phone calls, and after calling several times to the office (without any response) they say that they are busy, I really don't know for who because they don't take care of their tenants either, not only the enquiries. I am at the stage of seeing a nice property and then praying and hoping it's not managed by their company.

Martin & co were recomended by a friend who had recently moved. They are no sale no fee, the quality of the photos taken for advertising is very good and that they can supply a solicitor and intermediaries. There is also an online system to track progress and a whatsapp group was set up to keep in touch. I also requested that they show potential buyers the property instead of me having to and they willingly did this which was a help.

Selling during 2020 and 2021s pandemic, and with a big chain, a few paperwork problems along the way, was very stressful, yet our estate agents kept their cool and helped us through the process . I cannot thank Joanna O'Mahony and Charlotte Crane enough for what they have helped us get through on both sale and purchase. There were a number of complications along the way (not their fault at all, at solicitor level) and they made sure that everything was then put back on track and did a fantastic job in getting it completed. They are an absolute cut above the rest when it comes to customer service.

had a terrible experience with this estate agent. I contacted about a flat advertised and was rudely told it is gone and I should come in and look at their other listings. The other flats I looked at were more expensive and in bad condition. Clearly sharp practice being used here. Not recommended for tenants or landlords. This people are very greedy for money and look after their own benefit. These people do a lot of dodgy things. i have also enquired with the tenants from this agency and told that they will never let you take your deposit back.

Having been involved in the property business in the area for more than 25 years, I've checked out many of the letting agents at some point or another, and these guys genuinely stand out as by far the worst, poor communication, focused primarily on their own profits whilst the property is allowed to decay. Whilst out of the country they advised good renovation works were being carried out by the contractor they supplied, but these did not tie up with independent photos I had sent of the mess that was being secretly made. Most work had to be redone by another contractor when theirs actually refused to complete the job without being paid an additional 30% of the quotation in advance.

Martin & Co. have been great to deal with in setting up a new tenancy on year ago. I hope to remain in the current property at renewal in three weeks time and have had a good experience in dealings with the Southend office and find the service efficient and professional.

UPDATED REVIEW:
After my post six months ago regarding waiting in most of the day for a property inspection, I'm pleased to say that the procedure for this must have been addressed as I had a further inspection today, a time frame was given and stuck to and the inspection was over in less than 10 minutes.
The only downside is that a message I had left a couple of weeks ago hadn't made its way to the property management, but I have spoken to someone face to face today so hopefully my query will be followed up.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I'm a tenant at a property managed by Martin and Co.
I have found them to be very unhelpful and unorganised.
I have six monthly property inspections, one booked for today (at the time of posting, prior to the edit below) which was confirmed almost two weeks ago. I was given no timeframe for this.
It is now gone 1pm and I have had to wait in with two children in the summer holidays with no idea when someone will be turning up. I waited until midday before calling to query the inspection time and was told I'd get a call back regarding this. An hour passed and I'd heard nothing so had to call again to be told the same thing. It has been almost 40 minutes since the second call and still no one has been able to give me an answer as to when the agent is coming.
They seem to forget that although it is not my property, it is my home.
*Edit - I did eventually receive a call back and the agent was there within half an hour after that call. I was told there were staffing problems, which happens and cannot be begrudged, however a call in the morning to say this and to give a rough estimate of time would still be helpful. Even as little as saying a "morning" or "afternoon" slot.

I have been a tenant with Martin and Co now for 1 year, from arranging the viewing, to moving in my process was very simple and although I threw many complications at the company during the reference check period my process was very easy and smooth going for me on my end, I was on a very tight turn around and was moved into my flat with quickness and ease. Any issues I have faced in the flat have been viewed and resolved within a week. My property is maintained very well. The staff have kept me informed and given plenty of notice if anyone is Inspecting the building or my flat. Lastly I always get quick and clear responses when I have any questions. It feels as though the company go above and beyond for me and I’m sure others feel the same. I’m very happy with my first year as a tenant.

The first time I rented via Martin & Co Southend, I only realised how crafty they were when I moved out and they done me in for £200 'cos I hadn't trimed back a hedge..!! I've now had no option but to rent through them for my recent property. They were very helpful indeed whilst applying for the property..but now that we're in they are a nightmare to get hold of. All I need is a simple plug socket that wasn't working when we moved in to be fixed and after leaving 3 voicemails and 2 emails I've heard nothing back and it's been 2 weeks! ????
Edit: Well it seems I was premature in my recent judgement..the electrician came round soon after we were given the correct details for their repairs booking system, which we have had to use 2 more times since and so far we have had very quick responses. Have updated to 5 stars. P.s You probably couldn't find details of previous rental because I use my middle name on Google but the property was 117a St Helen's Rd and was in 2012 when I lived there

I’ve been renting my flat in Leigh on sea for several years with Martin & Co. The team at the Westcliff office have always gone the extra mile, particularly in testing times when we have needed to address maintenance issues and replace kitchen and other necessary goods and amenities. Their professionalism and calm courteous approach is reassuring. And more importantly they have kept my flat occupied 100% of the rentable year, I’ve had Only very short spells of vacant possession/changeover between tenants and in pretty much all cases the quality of tenant has been high and reliable. Our experience with martin and co aouthend has been very positive. The process of letting was straightforward and we were kept in the loop. Please Be Aware Before Going For Martin & Co Southend on sea Letting & Estate Agents!!?
My parents 58 and 65 years old, were looking for a flat to live in. They are not fluent English speakers, but they do work and live in UK legally as a country of European Union. They went to this agency and they were offered to view a flat on the 2nd April. They did view the property and decided that it was the appropriate property for them. They gladly paid the agency fees of 395.00 Pounds and they were told by the agent that the property would be available from 20th of April. So, the agent told my parents that she would be in touvh before the moving date as she needed to contact the landlord.
Days past by and there were no contact whatsoever by the agent. I had to call them back and everytime I did, they said that the agent who was dealing with my parent’s case wasn’t in the office. At the end we received a phone call by the agent on the 10th of April, which stated that my parent’s needed to go to the agency to get the Fees back as she couldn’t help because the landlord did not want to let the property to my parents, without giving a reason why.
My parents felt very humiliated and very disappointed and what’s more very Let Down by this agency. Since they never explained the reason why the landlord didn’t accept to rent the flat to my parents, I do totally feel that they were discriminated for their age and maybe they took advantage of them because they cannot speak/understand English as much as they should.

Disgusting service from this “company”. After weeks of waiting and excuse after excuse & contradictions, they finally said they would do the repair, but then when I phoned them, they said it depends if another emergency comes up. Unbelievable!
The problem is a leaking pipe that they don’t seem to care about, ruining my patio.
Also another matter I raised, a garden full of rubbish is still out there after at least a year!!! I don’t believe they will do anything, and can’t trust what they say, so I’m ending up doing it myself, at least I know it will be done!!!

Awful service, treated really badly and have a lot of mould issues that took months to fix and turned out it wasn't it had just become summer and heating went off mould returned following winter, communication was poor and staff were extremely rude at Southend martin and co especially Gaynor.
They handed out our keys for maintenance people to enter our flat without our knowledge scaring my heavily pregnant girlfriend when on maternity leave by a man letting himself in and coming into the flat, when phoned to complain they had the cheek to complain we scared the man entering.
Return of deposit is still a battle 4 weeks later and they do not look after tenants only landlords it seems

Sending daily texts to a phone demanding a Tennant to pay money when NOTHING is due until the END of the month!..evidence can be provided to anyone wanting to rent from this company.
Call to ask a question get told they need to talk to someone and will get back to the tenant, didnt happen ... demanding once rent paid that they have tennants personal bank payment receipts for a bank transfer or the balance won't be cleared...wow... so much hassle . Either want to be paid or NOT? ??!!? How is that possible for a busy person to do this, surely its there job.

Martin & CO Southend, & its operation/ management are highly professional within their workplace and dealing with tenants. At times they can be under a lot of strain in work loads due to under-Staffing so can be hard to get hold of some team members in times of need.
Property Management are friendly and helpful in their ways with Rose leading the team there.
Overall service experienced for 2 years being under their property management would have to be 7/10

Not a great service. Was told on viewing the property that it was unfurnished as described in the details. Turned up with moving van and it was fully furnished. our landlord was fab and took care of most of repairs required. MArtin and Co had to do one of the repairs - their plumber did not keep the 1st appointment and then just turned up and expected us to drop everything so he could do the work.
When it came to reletting the property, they did not tell us when they were going in with the keys for viewings and the first we heard that they had done any viewings was when they told us that they had found a new tenant. They had left the bathroom light on all weekend (we had already moved and were paying rent on two properties).
We were entitled to a rent rebate which they were not forthcoming with and after many unsuccessful attempts to contact them by phone we ended up going in to the office to eventually be given the rebate. We are now still waiting for them to authorise the return of the deposit since 25.10.16. When phoned we were told that they only deal with deposits on a Wednesday and they would be doing it today. Fingers crossed ey?!

Me and my girlfriend rented a flat from Martin & Co Southend. They are the worst agents we ever experienced - we had an attempted break-in at our property and it took them 7 days to send round a locksmith to fix the front door lock to our flat! Yes, they left us with a broken front door lock for 7 days!!! They wouldn't respond to emails, calls or voicemails. Initially they refused to fix the locks and said it was our responsibility to pay for a locksmith (even though the letting contract stated otherwise). We had to threaten legal action to get them to actually send someone to fix the door... Whatever you do, DON'T RENT FROM THESE SHARKS!!!!!

After being badly let down by a tenant I tried to help, I returned the property to Tony Lindberg and his team at Martin & Co., Southend-on-Sea. Although I was abroad at the time they immediately took action, contacting the tenant, and then arranging for legal action. This led to possession being secured without court proceedings, whereupon they have organised re-decoration of the premises and re-letting in a timely fashion. It has all been most efficient and helpful. I recommend them.

Martin and Co Southend have handled my mother's property for over 12 years. They have dealt with difficulties ranging from the smallest to the most unusual and always with efficiency and an eye to cost. I believe the tennents were also very satisfied.

I have been using Martin & Co for the past 6 years and have always found Tony Lindberg and his staff to be very professional, helpful and polite. During that time they have found me two excellent tenants who have never been a problem at all.
Martins have provided me with good service and advice over the years regarding my properties and have never found them lacking in any way. The six monthly inspection is thorough and the report is very reassuring.
Any maintenance work required is carried out by one of their recommended tradesmen and I have found their quotes always very competitive.
I would thoroughly recommend Martin & Co to fellow Landlords with no hesitation.

Martin & Co have been looking after our property for over 10 years. They inspect the property every six months and warn of any potential problems and we have found them to be very informative and helpful.

Great service & very professional.
We used Martin & Co when letting out our property, and worked alongside Leanne Jones (one of there letting agents), she was always there to answer any questions and she found us perfect tenants.
Martin & Co carried out all the relevant referencing and always supplied us with a copy of there findings.
As I said, Martin & Co provided a great service and for a very reasonable price.
I would definitely recommend!!

They put the tenants from hell in my property, who even had a Rotweiler, which they didn't tell me about. Watch out for their illegal tie-in periods, too. Finally, all Martin and Co agents are independent, so don't expect any help from head office if you run into problems with individual agents. Don't use!
