I have noticed several negative reviews, in particular from people who have never actually dealt with Martin & Co, possibly resulting from a disgruntled tenant. These reviews are the complete opposite of my overall experience of the friendly and helpful staff at Martin & Co in Tonbridge High Street, going right back to 2016.

Very helpful and finished whole process very quickly while approached for renting, but very unprofessional while left the house. Not interested in refunding deposit. We didn't put single nail on the wall & still they r charing us £900 for repainting, not because of normal wear and tear, but due to scuffs and marks. The agency for inspection of house at the end of tenancy was not at all reliable. We vacated house 3 weeks before hand over & they commented that the house has odour of food, unbelievable. I won't recommend to anybody even in my wildest dream.

There is an evident lack of proper and profesional care to customers, either tenants or landlords. The service we received from its manager was more in line of the one anyone will receive from a bully, he is definetly not a nice person. Awful experience and I warn all prospective tenants against using this agency.
Throughout the application process we were met with complete disdain, and the lettings negotiator was dismissive and patronising. The process was excessive and stressful, and to add insult to injury, they take a £323 "week's holding deposit". This is non refundable, despite 2 out of 3 of us passing referencing. Being a tenant all my life, I have never had to pay a "week's holding deposit" before. They didn't even warn us that there was a deadline with the HomeLet application, and therefore my partner could not add his tax return or amend his application. Therefore leading us to fail and taking our money and withdrawing our application. The house was then put back on the market online 10 minutes after we had been sent an email stating our application had been withdrawn.
Bit of a money maker I think, and judging by the reviews below, I make my judgement correct.
I think it was a very lucky escape not going through with the application with this company, given the amount of negative reviews and descriptions listed below. Warning!
*EDIT- I contacted the lettings negotiator in question via email about her handling of the process, but to no avail.

Robert Gordon running through firm is not a good person! He made us vacate without any fault ( section 21) in the middle of pandemic! We have two vulnerable ppl in the family shielding ! My boiler broke down on friday evening, i called them on saturday morning at 10am and by 11am my boiler was repaired and back to normal!!! They even asked me if i wanted to borrow a couple of heaters until the boiler was fixed but there was no need to. Thank you Robert and everyone at Martins & Co!!!

In trying to retrieve my deposit I have been asked to pay
£120 for cleaning of carpets that do not exist, I saw them being ripped out and discarded
£60 for sweeping of chimney when I never lit a fire
£60 for gardening when the garden consisted of a narrow strip of grass and a few plants and I left it in the same condition as I found it
£190 for decorating when the walls and paintwork were in good condition
£200 for replacement of worktop which was cracked nd damaged alr

Due to restrictions of Covid 19 I was not able to get the house and carpets cleaned professionally
I am an elderly person with a bad shoulder and do not like being made to feel like a dirty slut

Have been renting through Martin and Co in Tonbridge for a couple of years and they were always helpful, friendly and speedy at resolving any issues. My deposit was returned within a few days of my check out and should I move back to the area I would definitely be in touch with them again. Thank you to the team for all your help.

I am writing this review on behalf of my mother, Betty.
Mum was recently bereaved and had taken the brave decision to sell the house she shared with her husband. She has never sold a house before and was quite overwhelmed at times, even with my sisters' help, but Scott and the team at Martin and Co were very patient, kind and considerate with her, explaining each stage of the process and making sure she understood what was happening and when. Mum has described their help and advice as 'fantastic throughout'. My family and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Scott particularly for all his hard work and professionalism.

Tenants, be very careful with Robert and his team when leaving the property you are renting. They will try to rip you off with abusive dilapidation deductions and keep as much money as possible from your deposit.
Take pictures and videos from the property before you leave. Keep any receipts if you hire equipment or someone to clean it; and most important, keep your check-in paperwork to compare it with the check-out.
When I told them I didn't agree with the charges, their reply was to make a counteroffer. Like if I was buying something from a bazar!
I did a claim with DPS and thanks to all my evidence I got back over £250.
Never encountered such an unprofessional agency. Every time I had an issue during my tenancy, the person I tried to contact was either on holiday or no longer working there. So glad I don't have to deal with them anymore.

This is a warning to anyone who is thinking of using this company as a TENANT.
They will keep a substantial amount of your deposit whatever you do when you leave a property. Despite having our rental property professionally cleaned throughout, spending hundreds of pounds, and providing receipts; without inspecting the property they sent in their own exorbitant cleaning company and kept a further £450 deposit. We were outraged!
DO NOT USE THIS LETTING AGENT they are lazy crooks, out for every penny they can get. They are rude and have no respect for you as a tenant. BEWARE!
It was a sickening experience!!!! Be warned!
