Being self-employed, it is already extremely difficult to lease an apartment and there are a lot more requirements in order to do so. Kate (who is part of the lettings team) as well as Adeyna went above and beyond for me and understood my situation in order to be able to pass the referencing and within just a few days, my stressful days of viewing properties came to an end and I am now in my new apartment :)

Highly disappointing service which resulted in a considerable loss of time and money.
I was interested in a cash-only purchase for a flat in Brixton. I was told that the reason it was cash purchase was because the seller needed to make a quick sale. It was only upon paying for a survey that I found out that the property was cash only because mortgage lenders would not lend on it because of the concrete structure. At no point was this communicated by the agents at Barnard Marcus, they only seemed concerned with pushing through with the sale. I lost hundreds because of the survey and a deposit with a solicitors in addition to the several weeks in time.

I had a viewing today at Salamanca Place, and Barnard Marcus wasn’t the most polite person. He made me feel stupid when I questioned the appliances and the broken window. Regarding shared ownership, he strictly said no to using my own mortgage provider (current bank) and only insisted on going with his recommendations. This was a long discussion, even though I was advised over the phone that I could use my own broker before meeting with one of his colleagues.

I have just sold my loft style property in SE1 and highly recommend the team at BM. I approached all the local estate agents, including those that specialise in this niche market, and was even able to get an interview with The Modern House. On balance selling a home/major asset is a head not a heart decision and Darren Mottram (senior branch manager) presented a solid business case. The marketing was exceptional (the camera that allows a walk around), the access to market by using both Zoopla and Rightmove, the price I needed to move, and the negotiated commission. The team included Roy Pollard (senior negotiator) who managed the majority of viewings and did a great job of pointing out the features of my property ..”great craftsmanship”! Also thanks to Julie Liles (senior sales progressor) who had the tricky task of closing the chain of 4 properties, each with differing demands. Overall a great result - thank you Darren, Roy and Julie!

I'm a bit disappointed with my rental experience.
The property has been provided with a very old, disgusting-looking sofa and a bed that has a frame much bigger than the mattress. Bear in mind, it's a £1850 rental for a one-bed flat.
I was promised a clean sofa when I moved in. I did not see the problem with the bed as it was covered with a duvet so no conversation took place regarding the bed prior the move.
When I raised these issues with the property management department, the response was that the landlord was not obligated to change anything specifically that the previous tenant did not have any issues with either item.
Additionally, I was only offered with the solution to cover the sofa stains and discolouration with throws, the worn-out foam was not addressed.
The solution for the bed was to place the mattress on the edge and get into bed from the side I choose to place the mattress.
I think the fact that previous tenants did not complain is not an excuse to provide the basics right for this type of rental.

Terrible agency, an agent called Jeordie who had just come for a viewing while I wasn't at home, let the front door open, upon my arrival I also found the French window to the garden open, all the lights on and despite having explicitly requested to wear shoe covers or remove shoes have entered the house with shoes on.
I can only be very dissatisfied and not recommend this agency to anyone because the blame lies with the agent but also with her manager who probably didn't teach her how to work. Unfortunately just to leave this review I must put a star at least but I'm not giving any star to this agency.

Jordy may be new to the Barnard Marcus crew but you wouldn't know. She was incredibly helpful and friendly and was always quick to respond. No request was out of the question no matter how much of a reach it may of seemed. Within 24 hours of seeing the property on Rightmove, she got our offer accepted by the landlord despite multiple other offers. It was a shame we got accepted so quickly because I would've loved to work with Jordy for longer!

After a dreadful letting experience with another South London-based estate agent and a subsequent eviction, it has been a relief to work with Sam Manley from the Kennington Barnard Marcus office. He possesses a wonderfully friendly manner and super proactive attitude, and worked hard on my behalf to help get my flat in Camberwell ready for a new let following the previous tenants leaving it in a mess. Company have left us without water for what has already been 4 days. Now the offices are closed for the weekend and no emergency numbers. They delay dealing with issues until you get bored of pestering them, or the problem goes away.
It feels like they only seem to want to do anything is on Friday afternoons to keep you quiet whilst the office are closed at weekends.

I put my house on the market with Barnard Marcus and Darren Mottram the branch manager was excellent from the start. He was labouring under two disadvantages, my being overseas and the house still being occupied by a frankly abysmal tenant that meant the property was in a far from presentable state. As to the first issue, Darren's communication and sage advice by phone and email was first rate, the Creda app used to confirm identity of overseas clients was both simple and rapid to use, a distinct contrast to recent experiences with other companies. Darren not only found found me a buyer in just a couple of weeks, but despite the poor presentational state of the house, resulting in a much lower offer, negotiated the buyer up to virtually the asking price. The branch were exceedingly helpful in holding the keys,, arranging access and visits to the house throughout the process.
Once the offer was agreed I was passed into the extremely capable hands of Julie Liles, the Senior Sales Progressor with whom communication was again first rate, of vital importance, both due to my absence overseas and what turned out to be, thanks to the first set of solicitors and the estate management company a lengthy and complicated legal process. It would be entirely fair to say that without Julie's support, tenacity and unfailing sense of humour, I very much doubt the sale would ever have been successfully concluded. Overall a five star plus performance in all respects and I would certainly recommend their services to anyone looking to sell (or buy) in the area.

Quite simply, the worst estate agent in London. After 2 months of signing the contract with this estate agent, they still had not even produced a brochure to 'market' my property. The manager emailed me a brochure to approve, yet one of the photos was a photo of a 'lake' (which I assume was 1 of the photos used on the 'template') (see photo below). Numerous errors such as this made up the majority of the brochure which I spent 11 hours having to re-do myself, to which the manager never responded 9due to his over-inflated ego). He 'copied & pasted' particulars from another property which clearly did not correspond to my property (see photo below). His 'bullet points' leave little to be desired too! (see photo below). Unbelievably, he then blatantly refused to market my property but still made it clear that I was bound to the terms of the contract so if I used another agent to sell my property and succeeded, I would still be liable to pay their multiple agency fee + 20% VAT (in excess of £20,000). In the Office of Fair Trading it stipulates that charging a fee without providing a service is an 'unfair breach of contract'. After threatening legal action, they decided to release me from the contract, though I still have every intention of pursuing legal action via court proceedings for this has cost me in excess of of £5000 to extend my bridging loan which I made Barnard Marcus fully aware of the expiration date when I signed the contract 2 months before, yet they did NOTHING for these 2 months! No wonder their sole agency fee is 1.5% + VAT. Do NOT be fooled by 'cheap' estate agency fees. You only get what you pay for and in my case I got NOTHING. "BUY CHEAP - BUY TWICE!" Leave this company well alone or you may end up paying the price like I did! I tried negotiating an offer of settlement, but received an extremely rude, ignorant and arrogant response! See you in court!

Unfortunately, like so many other Estate Agents in London, BM couldn’t care less about you if you’re a tenant of theirs. Repeated requests for legitimate repairs go ignored. Tenants face threats of a bad reference if they act alone. Landlords seemingly oblivious to BMs dithering and incompetence.
Properties not maintained, properties not inspected regularly, properties not managed in accordance with tenancy agreements. Endless delays. Unnecessarily costly repairs for minor maintenance.
If you are a landlord looking for an agent. Find a landlord association and manage it yourself. Both you and the tenants will have a much better experience (and it’s cheaper).

I'm not surprised to find other tanents have left negative comments about the property management. we also had our worst experience we ever had when we had things to fix in the flat. Basically when we had something broken in the flat, we never had anyone who would follow up the issues in a reasonable timely manner. It was very painful to log tickets, call the property management, and send numerous emails to chase every time. we had the old boiler in the flat stop working in December last year and we were left to live without hot water for two entire winter months! we did everything we can to cooperate, we have email evidences that we were left unanswered for days without progress to resolve the problem. we had to withhold our rent to finally get the boiler fixed in February. so eventually we decided to exercise the break clause and move out earlier, and then it came to the nightmare of getting our deposit back. It took more than 3 months to finally get them to release our deposit, again numerous calls and emails in the process. I don't know whether they pass our request onto the landlord in a reasonable time frame or the landlord just don't reply the agent, but for quite a few times only when I had to call them, they would reply that they are waiting on the landlord to reply, even after they have promised to action reasonably. You can imagine the frustrations!!

Very unprofessional. Booked a valuation of our house with them 2 days ago and got a call 45 minutes before the appointment to say the branch manager was not coming. The reason was because we had had Covid previously. We had had Covid 7 weeks ago and have all tested negative several times since. The idiot branch manager is actually far safer coming to our house as we all have had confirmed negative recent tests and antibodies against Covid, so if that confers any immunity, he's less at risk of catching it. His attitude on the phone was rude and dismissive and there was no apology for messing us around. We would never use them going forward.

I've renewed my mortgage before with this branch of Barnard Marcus and was fully satisfied with the service I got, so when it came time to renew again I got back in touch. On this occasion, I worked with Jorden Lyons who I have found to be extremely knowledgeable, polite, friendly and responsive. It was a bit more complicated for this renewal, given I was switching from a residential mortgage to allow me to rent the property. Being my first time at renting my flat out, Jorden took the time to explain everything to me which I really appreciated, he was patient even when I had silly questions! Most importantly, Jorden was able to offer solutions I never would have known were open to me and went out of his way, even over the weekend, to help me get to a great solution. Quite unprofessional agents, though mostly private middle class investors acting as landlords, which makes direct communication with them easy. The Agency is v lenient with its confidentiality obligations, bear this is mind. On average, email replies once offer is made take 14 days. In our case, the agent lied to the landlord, that we are ok with the furniture to stay, and the tenant (me), that the landlord agrees to remove the furniture. Wow

After having tried unsuccessfully to sell my home for almost a year through another agent and then through the Kennington branch of Barnard Marcus, one of their agents, Simon D'souza, got involved in helping me to get a sale. Simon was thorough, reliable, and trustworthy from first meeting till sale completion. When he said he would call you, he did, unlike many agents I have dealt with during this frustrating period. All aspects of the sale process were explained to me in a way I could understand, without the feeling i was being fobbed off or condescended to.If you use this company, try to get Simon and tell him I sent you.

I have certainly been very happy with the service provided by your company and specifically with Simon and Karen’s contribution to the proceedings. Once I had got in touch with Barnard Marcus to set the process off the house was on the market within a few days and there were plenty of viewings. These were handled very efficiently by Simon and the team. Once it had become clear that the asking price was a little too high Adam advised me to reconsider it, and the revised price led to fresh viewings. The finishing touch was when they persuaded the buyers to raise their offer by £15,000. I don't know how they did it, but I am most grateful.
Before deciding to move I had been aware of the existence of Barnard Marcus for many years, and having asked you to act for me I have had no reason to regret it.

Barnard Marcus handled the sale of my late mothers house very professionally, Simon was very courteous, he would regularly provide updates on the progress of the sale and was always available to answer any questions or to explain any other options to me, he always kept me informed with the dates of viewings he met and surpassed my expectations of dealing with him . He took the time to listen to what I had to say, which gave me every confidence in his ability to sell. I would high recommend Barnard Marcus to my friends and family.

He’s kept us informed with regular updates, given great advice when we’ve needed it, and has been an absolute pleasure to deal with throughout the whole process.

Leaving in 3 weeks I have been trying to call and emailed them thousands of times, I'm still waiting for an answer. Been ignored and they also made a mistake with our contracts / deposits.
Unacceptable.

Awful - they have to be constantly chased up, didn't include crucial details in our contract, messed up our move in dates, were confusing to deal with, and just never call you back if they're busy/forget to email you things they say they will.

We have recently let a property from them, the have proven theselves to not only be incompetent, poorly trained and rude but worst of all they will LIE to you to seal a deal on a property.
We have been lied to SO MANY TIMES, many of which we have only found out now we are moving in and paid deposits etc!!
It has been a nightmare trying do business with someone you can't trust. Please don't have to go through this yourselveS- DON'T USE BARNARD MARCUS!

Just purchased my first ever property via this office. First time buying is so daunting, but I found the whole team to be helpful and keen to help me move forward - especially toward completion when dates / timings got really tight.
In particular the mortgage advisor Jordan Lyons worked very hard to get this home-buying novice to where he wanted to be. I'm in, happy with my choices, and have a plan for future funding adjustments.

Very helpful. Adam was happy to fit property visits around me. Michelle was always on the case when it came to chasing the developers and their solicitors. Barnard Marcus even sorted out the Mortgage advisor, Jordan Lyons, who was very friendly and did everything he could to speed the process along. Overall, it was a smooth process.

Very professional / organised and in the end achieved a good outcome. There was certainly plenty of effort. But on reflection it took a long time to land on the right product.
