I had a very disappointing experience with a property marketed by John D Wood & Co. Estate Agents (Wandsworth).<br><br>Initially, Poppy Martin was very helpful and responsive throughout the viewing and application process, which gave us confidence in proceeding. However, after our offer was accepted, we were informed that all payments and tenancy arrangements would be handled directly by the landlord rather than the agency. This was never made clear at the outset.<br><br>We had already submitted our personal and financial information to the agent, including payslips, bank statements, passports, proof of address, P60s, and our guarantor’s personal and financial details. Despite this, the landlord requested the same documents again, followed by further demands for over a year’s worth of our guarantor’s financial records, including payslips, bank statements, and P60s.<br><br>We also discovered that deposits were to be paid to a business account managed by a third-party company, which had not been disclosed by the agent. When we requested evidence of their data protection compliance, we were initially provided with an expired certificate and generic documents, which further undermined our confidence.<br><br>At this stage, we no longer felt comfortable sharing additional financial information. As a result, our £311 holding deposit was retained. We felt pressured into providing excessive personal data under the threat of losing our deposit.<br><br>Overall, the process lacked transparency, involved repeated requests for financial and personal information, and left us feeling misled. This was a stressful and disappointing experience, and I hope future applicants are given clearer information before committing to the process.... Read more
