For eleven years I have had peace of mind as Dowen has managed my property, whilst living aboard. I have found them professional, efficient and friendly. First class service!
I removed my review as I thought I had been too harsh but I feel I need to have my say.
I rented my property for 2 years before buying it in February 2018. While renting, I felt I was "bothering" the staff at Seaham branch each time there was an issue with the property. It would take more than one email , and usually a phone call, before getting any response. Repairs would be seen to eventually. The fact I felt I was bothering the staff was confirmed by a comment made by the plumber when he came to fix the toilet.
After 2 years renting I bought my property as my ex landlord rented out 6 properties in Seaham and he wanted to sell mine in Houghton. The process was smooth. However, I am disappointed and very upset to read the review left by my ex landlord referring to "prospective buyers/tenants" being difficult to deal with. As far as I am aware I am the only "prospective buyer" of his rented properties. Having never met, or indeed spoken directly to my ex landlord I can only summise the staff at Dowen have given him this opinion of me. I paid him full asking price for my house. My rent has always been paid in full and on time, I have never complained - so I am disappointed and upset at this comment.
As well as this, I waited two weeks for Gaynor to push the spare keys to my house through my letterbox (to save me a journey). They were never delivered so I ended up collecting my spare keys some 4 weeks after completion of the purchase.
Based on my experiences detailed above I cannot recommend Dowen at Seaham.
I am glad I no longer have to deal with the staff at Seaham.

They sold our house within 3 weeks after being with another estate agents for 3 months.
We would not hesitate to recommend their services.
Without them we wouldn't have been able to move to our dream home.

Have now waited weeks for our deposit to be returned, contacted the deposit holding agency and they have not even been in contact with them. Pathetic way to run a business.
Have recently bought and sold with Pattinsons and would not hesitate to recommend them. The transaction was a fairly complex one as it involved a large chain of properties but i was kept up do date on a regular basis and any queries i had were dealt with. Overall very professional staff and really nice people to deal with.
Overall bad experience, no communication between referencing and branch who continued to lose documents throughout the whole process, over charged referencing costs by £50.00 which when we questioned were apologised too, we decided overall to pull out as they all kept giving us different information and couldn’t give a straight answer at all to practically any questions we had, only once a complaint had put in would they even respond helpfully or partially helpfully, the property was very nice but would not ever consider going back to Pattinsons no matter how nice the property, also when we pulled out we were told no refund would be given even though the incorrect charges were paid and we overpaid £50.00 which was never seen again, the only part of the process which was nice and simple was the exiting of the deal despite losing £300.00 it was nicer than the thought of having to be locked into a living arrangement with Pattinsons. They did similar to my parents when they were selling a property causing lots of lost money and inconvenience but that’s a completely different matter. Back to my original dissatisfaction my only request following the drop out of the contract was to have a reason on letter headed paper to confirm why I wasn’t refunded the payment and querying the £50.00 extra, to which I was told the manager does not have word and cannot issue this which I think is disgraceful. Since went with a different estate and letting agent who are perfect and I cannot fault them one bit.
Great service, from giving our number to be contacted when property became available, we were contacted regularly to help us find a property we liked, when we found one, the professional manner in negotiating the price, to constantly keeping us updated . Can't praise the staff enough, we were very grateful from start to finish. Thank you.
would not recommend this dept' of the business i can not comment on the others as my dealing have only been with this one.
i had a new landlord, i had to wait ages to find out what was going on reed rains came and inspected my home and i explained i had damp and a slug problem getting in the units on plates and food etc so they got it checked by peter cox, a few weeks later i got a call saying they were going to do my kitchen on the 3rd nov and i needed to move everything out of the kitchen it will take a few days, i explained i have the dogs and have nowhere to put them while the work is being done. they said just leave them outside. then 2 days before peter cox were due i got a call they want to start a day earlier but i refused as i have 3 dogs and have nowhere to go, their reply was just leave them outside but i still refused, i went next door where peter cox were working already and asked about coming early they didnt know what i was on about but informed me it was the whole downstairs they were doing and i need to clear it all out....
so the day came and i had to go out all day with the dogs in the rain no money no help food and water in a bag as i dont drive, to return to find i have no heating, so weekend went still no heating work was finnished on the tuesday ( i had been in a room upsatirs with the dogs with no room to move and all the stuff from kitchen and lounge upstairs freezing during all this), got heating on reed rains called and i explained i still had slug problem due to the wall behind the kitchen unit and the lady said ill pop out and see, well when she came out she looked and said maybe i should put the kick boards on to stop the slugs and shell get someone to check with peter cox about the wall behind the units... its been a week and nothing.... on another matter reed rains decided to change my electric and gas suppier to spark without telling me, i got a key for electric meter with to the occupier on it, i dont have a agreement with them i have one with my old landlord, no clause to allow them to do this. i asked the to sort it out as they had done this they said they would, yesterday i got a letter with my name on it ( breach of data protection ) saying they had taken over my supply... not a happy bunny and now i am moving asap i dont trust what they will do next and i can not live somewhere with 3 dogs and slugs as slugs can kill dogs and they are in my units on food, plates, cups and stepping on them every night is taking its toll.
in a nutshell i dont think they care, i can not contact my landlord as i have to go through them, the work done here was shoddy but thats a matter for peter cox i explained to reed rains about the shoddy work and again it fell on deaf ears,
so moving and never dealing with reed rains EVER nor am i paying any rent except direct to the landlord.

Found this estate agents to be very unfair and unprofessional when I put a bid in for a house they were selling!
