We used Brown & Merry's mortgage broker Apurva Patel from the onset of looking for a house, even though we viewed houses from different estate agents in the Chesham area. His explanations, recommendations and advice were thorough and highly relevant throughout the process. We ended up finding a house through a different company and Mr Patel remained focused on getting the work done timely and professionally. We would highly recommend him as a mortgage broker.

I spoke to Anthony regarding a house I wanted to view and he was incredibly warm and welcoming and put me at ease as this is my first home purchase.
At the viewing, he gave me time to take everything in before chatting about ideas and little secret things the house holds that I wouldn’t have found on a first viewing. He explained things about the boiler, why things were the way they are, the history of the area etc.

Went into the Chesham branch earlier today to discuss the options of either renting or selling my property, I was initially met by Loryn who was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and gave me several informative tips for when it comes to renting. Unprofessional and waste of time.
Called to book a viewing on a property, the agent talked us into getting a meeting with their mortgage advisor, Apurva Patel. Booked 2 meeting with him, both of them attended. He promised to send over DIP, properties that matched our criteria etc. At the end, after several email and calls...No DIP and no properties.
Waste of time. Avoid to do business with Apurva.

The energy in the branch is a little unwelcoming …… not a possible vibe .
I was told incorrect information about being able to get a mortgage on unity builds, by the senior sales negotiator and manager of the branch.
Incredible that they both were confident that it’s possible to get a 5% deposit mortgage as brown and Merry are part owned by skipton building society and they do these mortgages
However , I was just told the complete opposite by another member of their team in the office via email when I specifically followed up.
I’d say trust your own judgment when choosing your estate or letting agents when it comes to buying or selling … hope it helps

Jake was the agent that was supporting us in our search.
From the moment we met him, he was professional, honest and transparent. Really refreshing to see and he has literally answered every question we have had.

I could not recommend James Gibson enough! What an outstanding mortgage advisor he has been! He is a Godsend who was tactfully recommended by Charmaine at a time when my husband and I were suffering from mortgage broker fatigue!
Our application turned out to be more complex and drawn- out than we expected. However, James’ patience, determination, expertise, professionalism and ever so positive attitude were instrumental in us obtaining a great mortgage offer.
After this major achievement, James went above and beyond his duty by liaising with the seller’s estate agent, solicitors and the mortgage provider in what was still a very stressful process for us. Finally have completed the sale of my property in Chesham. It was a roller coaster of almost there, but this year was the year obviously.
Charmaine has been superb in steering things along the way and it has been a supportive and superbly helpful throughout the process, a great communicator and always available or would call straight back.
This sale took 12 weeks to the day almost from offer to completion (could have been 8 but you know... Solicitors...) and I am very pleased to be able to tie the ends up and move forward.

This office has shown nothing but a lack of care and consideration for both landlord and tenant. Their communication is appalling. We had a rough experience with check in. Check out was a mess and to top things off 2 months after asking them to release the deposit to the tenants they still have not done so. The lack of professionalism has caused so much unnecessary stress for both my husband and I as well as the tenants. Awful experience.

Originally I really appreciated the team there. They did what they could very quickly to get me a flat. Good bargain and helpful but when you finish your contract… you’re alone and you end up finishing the mess yourself directly with the landlord. They need to improve on this point. The customer need to be accompanied from the beginning to the end… don’t forget that.

Brown and merry gave me excellent service and filled me with confidence when I made my initial enquiry.
I was informed that they would have access to a tenanted flat the following week, so I called back to arrange a viewing.
When I called back, I asked if I could see the flat that they previously told me they would have access too.
I was startled when a member of staff informed me that they didn’t tell me that they would have access the following week. I recognised his voice, and it was the same man.
Instead of delivering good customer service, I was abruptly told contradicting information
I would have appreciated a good customer service response of: ‘we were expecting the keys this week, but unfortunately we still can’t gain access, I apologise this has changed, but we will update you as soon as we can gain access, would this be ok with you?’
I will not be using brown and merry again, and I have deliberately not viewed properties which would be an interst to me as I don’t want to increase their companies profits due to turbulent customer service.
Potters and ford, frosts and chancellors have given me great responses and honesty all the way through.
I have also informed my family that I would not use this agent.
Maybe customer service training is needed for bad news, as I’m sure the rest of their processes are smooth.

Selling a house for the first time, and particularly as I was doing it under a Lasting Power of Attorney and don't live locally, was a daunting prospect. The initial appointment with James Beasant was the best we had by a mile and there was no doubt about choosing Brown & Merry. The sale got quite messy due to problems on the buyers' side, but James and his team persisted, in tandem with our solicitor, and got it over the line at full asking price. I can't thank them enough.

Avoid at all costs. We have rented properties with estate agents before but never had a bad experience until Brown & Merry.
They were extremely evasive and deceitful throughout the tenancy. Most importantly, they worked with the landlord in a direct and obvious attempt to cheat us out of our bond (worth over £1000). Fortunately we had extensive evidence of their dishonesty and won our dispute with them via the Tenancy Deposit Scheme. We received virtually the entire amount back, but this took many months and a great deal of time.
Everything changes once you have signed on the dotted line with these people. Don't make the same mistake we made - stay away from Brown & Merry when looking at rentals in the area.
We are in the process of reporting them to the appropriate authorities.

Amazing experience at brown and merry Chesham. Used chancellors previously and didn’t have the best experience then moved over to brown and Merry and couldn’t have made a better choice. Put my house on the market with them and they found me a buyer within 2 weeks. The house sale was fast and dealt with efficiently and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Wouldn’t choose any other agent in the town now I’m with brown and merry. Best agent in the town.
