We recently sold our flat through Chestertons, through the Wandsworth Estate Agent in what was undoubtedly a challenging market. Ultimately, they got the transaction over the line, which we appreciate, and the team remained professional throughout the process.<br><br>However, the journey was not without frustrations. The sale process felt slow at times, there were a number of avoidable missteps along the way, and the level of buyer interest generated fell well below expectations set by the team. In the end, we only had two viewings, which left us feeling fortunate to achieve a sale at all.<br><br>We were also disappointed by the significant gap between the original guide price and the eventual sale price. While market conditions were difficult, we felt there could have been stronger advocacy for the value of the property, particularly towards in the weeks before completion, and more robust negotiation on our behalf.<br><br>Overall, the key positive is that they succeeded in selling the property in a difficult market, but clearly we hoped for more from a full-service estate agent.

I had the unfortunate experience of attempting to purchase a property through Chestertons a few weeks ago, and the level of unprofessionalism I encountered was genuinely staggering.<br><br>During the process, I was misled on multiple occasions by both the sales agent involved (who, to their credit, was later dismissed) and the sales negotiation manager. Whether this was incompetence or deliberate misrepresentation is difficult to say, but the outcome was the same: repeated misinformation and a complete lack of transparency throughout the transaction.<br><br>Once a sale had been agreed, I then experienced what felt like repeated pressure tactics to increase my offer — effectively a form of gazumping in all but name. When I refused to raise my offer for a second time, the transaction quickly unravelled. In hindsight, the warning signs were already there, particularly their refusal to even mark the property as “under offer”, despite my request and what I would consider to be a standard part of the sales process.<br><br>I appreciate that buying property can be stressful and competitive, but honesty and professionalism should still be the bare minimum. Unfortunately, that was entirely absent here.<br><br>I would strongly advise others to avoid this particular branch and, if this experience is representative of the wider company culture, I would question dealing with the brand as a whole.

2026 Update:<br><br>I’ve been a client of Chestertons Wandsworth for around 9 years now and have always found the team professional, responsive and easy to deal with throughout both tenancy management and re-letting processes.<br><br>Most recently, Jessica Wilson and Jessica McBride were both fantastic in helping secure a new tenancy for my apartment. The process involved quite a detailed referencing and guarantor setup, but both Jessicas kept things moving, communicated clearly throughout, and were always helpful and patient with my questions and concerns.<br><br>In the end, everything was handled efficiently and the tenancy was agreed smoothly and professionally. Really appreciate all the support and would happily continue working with the team going forward.<br><br>2017 review:<br><br>I'm a cynical person at the best of times, but was genuinely blown away by how quickly Chestertons got a tenant into my flat. Barely 5 days (including the weekend!) from instruction and they had an offer for me. From there it couldn't have been smoother, with a great tenant now settled in. Compared to our experience with Savills (a local competitor), the difference was clear. Very poor agent. Scheduled appointment that I crossed London for and they left after seven minutes. I was ten mins late due to transport issues. I fan prove all this with phone records etc. Tried to warn them in four calls, all unanswered. Again I can prove this with records. Agent then cane back and shouted at me, refused to show property and accused me of abuse. I am seriously considering some kind of defamation action. Incredibly rude and unprofessional. Do mot waste your life by dealing with these people.

Everything was fine until it turned out Chesterton's were working with another company (Daniel Ford Estates) who have been a nightmare. Incredibly disreputable company (check out their Trust Pilot!)<br><br>How does a reputable company like Chestertons work with such an organisation? It's been nothing but a nightmare since we were handed over to them.<br><br>Firstly, they ask for passport, bank statements, pay slips etc by email, even though a third party carries out the referencing checks.<br><br>Secondly, our offer to rent stated that a smashed kitchen mirror was to be replaced before we moved in, we've been here a month now and they seem to have no intention of sorting it out, despite me staying home for workers to fix it but then not showing up.<br><br>Thirdly, they use an inventory company who mark everything as being in good condition even when you can see damage in pictures, so I basically had to redo the report so they couldn't try and bill me for all the existing damage when I moved out.<br><br>If you deal with Chestertons make sure you ask if they are acting on behalf of another agent and make sure it's not Daniel Ford!

Earlier this year, we bought a property in Wandsworth through Chesterton and had a really poor experience.<br><br>During the process, communication was awful, our lead consultant left there was a lack of transparency from Chesterton.<br><br>It was clear that the consultant tried to cut corners and it almost resulted in the deal falling through.<br><br>Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend.

After months of searching, we finally found a place to call home with the invaluable help of Chesterton’s.<br><br>We made an unconventional offer for our home, nothing outrageous but indubitably extra work for our intermediary. Amy, our assigned representative from Chesterton’s, was very helpful in getting the transaction expedited, with terms that ourselves and the landlord were happy with and at a date convenient to all. To enable this, Amy coordinated with both parties constantly - whether on week-ends or late in the evening, she was always available to help. She also made the process very painless and we are now happily moved into our new flat thanks to her professionalism and diligent efforts.<br><br>I hope estate agency employees get enough holiday to compensate for such busy weeks as from outside it would seem there is no separation between office and leisure hours, nor between weeks and week-ends!
