Recently made contact over the past few months to view and secure a rental property. Was shown a place in Wimbledon by a young enthusiastic and a bit green Estate agent from the Balham branch. He didn’t call the tenant beforehand and unlocked the door whilst the tenant was still in the property. Fortunately, the tenant wasn’t upset or in a private situation and let us view. During the offer process there was a clear bidding war type scenario created by Victoria ‘Tor’ Lea. She was condescending, rude and probably made a fictional counter offer to play us off. She on multiple occasions told us to increase our offer which despite not doing she phoned back 4 times as it still got accepted. The second interaction which encouraged me to make this post was with ‘Angelina’ at the Wimbledon branch. She told me I would end up homeless or in temporary accommodation if I didn’t compromise whilst raising her voice on the phone. Generally advise from a place of sincerity, experience with estate agents and renting for over a decade to avoid Foxtons if you don’t want the headache of scaremongering or worse being spoken to like a child. To Foxtons, please could you address these behaviours with adequate customer service training and refining interpersonal communication skills amongst your workforce.... Read more

Genuinly dreadful. We let our property through foxtons and paid for their managed service. From start to finish, despite charging massive fees, they were absolutely hopeless. Very slow to respond, agents know very little about the market, they advertised the property incorrectly to prospective tenants, loads of hidden fees, and use useless third parties for tasks like inventory and check out etc. Would strongly advise using another agent to save yourself money and hassle... This is the most irresponsible, negligent and incompetent letting agency in the UK. I paid the deposit and first month rent 2 months ago, they happily took my money and by the time I showed up to retrieve the keys of the flat they wouldn’t give them to me. They argue some extra checks that needed to be done, on the day I was supposed to move! I have all my belongings in boxes and scrambling to find a flat. Omar and Alexandra are blaming each other, and no one wants to take responsibility of their blatant negligence. These checks should have been done weeks ago, not on the very same day we are supposed to move. Disgusted by the poor service. They have no idea of what customer service means.... Read more

(Yes Foxtons called me last year to apologies, but they have now continued to mess up) Sep, 2023 Update: They started marketing 4 mouths before the end of our tenancy, despite their own contract saying they wont before 2 mouths. this was eventually sorted, but their hole team was completely clueless and didn't communicate to each other. Finally we have now been charged for the days that we went able to live in the property. Trying to get my money back at the moment. Sep, 2021: Was given keys to the flat... old tenants still living there... took over 3 mouths to reimburse for costs of changing plans. One of multiple issues. From the moment we said yes and signed, their customer service vanished. Nice people working their, but are full committed to the sale, no incentive to ensure smooth transaction.... Read more

Held visits of my property without my permission. Took commission fees and charges of over £7000 for a tenancy that I cancelled in writing, which they said they would pay back. Still have not been reimbursed. Also charged for management fees, for which I never agreed upon. Foxtons charged the tenants rent and took deposits totalling over 4000£ , full well knowing that I had cancelled the tenancy. Furthermore holding the money for 2 months before finally if informing the tenants that the agreement would not be going ahead, loosing them two months of flat searching. Can only assume are in financial difficulties, as withholding money.. The agents ignore your calls and emails.... Read more

Just unpleasant overall. Was driven around as the agent looked for keys, got stuck in traffic, shown flats that weren't within the budget or location I'd asked to see, wasn't shown flats I asked to see, keys were missing. Had another viewing that we almost missed because they kept assuring us we had time but we were getting driven so far out of where we needed to be. Ended up just getting out the car when stuck in traffic. Then no follow up from them of course. Also initially had to wait ages to be seen rather than the time specified. Great job!... Read more

Can’t even begin to thank Amelia enough throughout the process of renting our first house in London. As soon as I had placed an enquiry into a property, I was contacted by Amelia, and we had arranged viewings for the next day! As everyone knows the housing market at the moment is SO competitive, therefore we were a little apprehensive about actually finding a place but together we went through our preferences etc, and we were able to find one that we loved! However, it was on the market for slightly more than we had anticipated to pay, and there were a few things that we wanted including, therefore we weren’t even going to put an offer in. After speaking to Amelia, who had convinced us that there is no harm in putting any offer in, our offer was (to our amazement) accepted!!! We had a very negative experience with Foxtons, which made our move and the weeks leading up incredibly stressful. We had put off writing a Google review but unfortunately it’s been almost two months and the situation is still not completely resolved. Both Eddie and Sophie have been unresponsive and unsympathetic throughout our move in and the following months. We signed our rental contract in July, with our estate agent Eddie insisting we fill out every piece of paperwork and pay the substantial deposit that day. We did as that with no fuss, and then did not hear from Eddie for several weeks as we tried to arrange a viewing. We signed and paid rent from 29 September, and made our arrangements to end our previous tenancies and arrange a moving van around that contracted date. Then, foxtons told us we could not move in until the 1st because the old tenants were refusing to move out, which they tried to tell us was because tenants had rights to do that. This caused issues on our end with our previous landlord, as we had to beg them to let us stay an extra day (they had tenants moving in). Then, just three days before the move they told us we could not move in until 4pm, despite previously telling us 12 noon. We could not push back our former landlords back again, and we had to be out of our house by 12. Effectively, we were to be homeless between 12-4. Foxtons were very unsympathetic and unhelpful and blamed the old tenants for this. We eventually found a solution which involved paying an extra £250 to have our moving van hold our stuff for the four hours. Foxtons refused to reimburse us for that, although of course this was entirely their fault. When we got to the property and unloaded the van outside at 4pm (to avoid paying for an extra hour of the removal van), we were told we could not get in to the property until the inventory had been done by Foxtons. We waited til 5:30 for the cleaners to finish so that the inventory could be done. The cleaners told us that we could put our stuff upstairs, but foxtons said we were not allowed to enter until the inventory had been done, so we sat on the street with all of our stuff in the cold, waiting. When we called foxtons to say the cleaners had finished so they could do their inventory, we were told that the inventory had already been done. So, we had sat on the street with all of our stuff for 1.5 hours unnecessarily. When we were waiting, we bumped into the old tenants who explained they had had very similar issues with Eddie and foxtons. The showed us a text message from two months prior where they had told Eddie that they would not be out of the property any earlier than the 1st of October. We also found out that we had both been on the lease for the dates 29th September and 1st October, which is illegal. Foxtons had lied to us and told us we had not both been on the lease. Foxtons have agreed to reimburse us for the days we paid rent but were not allowed to enter our property, but it has been two months now and they are not replying to our emails about getting this reimbursement.... Very quickly we had loads of viewings booked, many before the property was even online. Never again will I be a tenant in a place with Foxtons as the property management. Little to no correspondence throughout, repairs / work took at a minimum 2 months to action. At one stage during our tenancy our property was broken into (from the front bay windows which we had already expressed as a concern) and after requesting the bay window be secured after the break in, it took 2 months for James Woodruff (now left Foxtons) to reply saying the landlord did not wish to make any changes. Only once we explained that it was a legal obligation of the landlords to ensure the property was secure was any action taken. To add additional bolts to the window took 3 months... This is just one of many frustrating experiences. Foxtons also tried to remove £400.00 from our deposit at the end of our tenancy despite our previous ordeals with them. Fortunately due to the deposit protection scheme we were able to get our full deposit back. Would highly recommend avoiding working with Foxtons as a property management.... Read more

Are you looking for a place to live? Do you want to get viewing properties as soon as possible? Do you want your time wasted and to be messed about as much as possible??! Then BINGO! This is the place for you! My partner and I went in on a Saturday morning and there was only one member of staff in. Beattie told us she only had one flat matching our criteria but couldn't show us because she was the only one there. Eventually she relented and took us to the property, which was literally next door. It was perfect! Beattie told us to move quickly if interested, so within 20mins of viewing we phoned to make an offer. In total we phoned 10 times, left 5 voicemail messages, 4 text messages and 2 emails. We got no response or answer to any until Monday when we received a call to say that someone else had taken the flat. However they had a number of other properties to show us if we could put aside a couple of hours on Wednesday night and her colleague Johanna (or Julia) would show us about. My partner moved his work schedule to accommodate the appointment and our excitement built as Wednesday approached. When we arrived on Wednesday the receptionist had no record of our appointment and told us Johanna (Julia) was out on viewings. We began to explain our situation when beattie appeared around the corner. We thought we had made a mistake and our appointment was with her. However we were informed that we were incorrect. Not only did we not have an appointment, but they had no properties suitable for us. We received no apology and it was clear none would be coming. In the end we answered an advert that night and found a flat that was both bigger and cheaper than the one they'd showed us. Even better...we got it direct through the landlord. No agency fees or hassle. The contract was signed within days and the whole process was so easy. Such a contrast from the fiasco with foxtons.... Read more

Edit (22/5/18): Never heard from Joanna or Foxtons Balham after leaving this review. Extremely poor handling all around. Thankfully I found a property that was listed with Felicity J. Lord, and they have been marvelous from the get go. Working with Joana at Foxtons Balham has been a nightmare and confirmed all of the terrible things I have heard about Foxtons. I was open to using Foxtons because I really enjoyed their easy online lettings search tools, and because they seemed to have their digital game together. However, once past the initial online account setup, the Balham office have been clunky, unadaptive and self serving. Let me explain what happened with Joana specifically. I joined My Foxtons and included a lot of information regarding my search. I immediately heard from Edy Ruiz (Baron’s Court) and let her know that I was currently in the US but relocating this summer, so email was best for me. She sent me a list of questions and it was easy. Then I got an email from Joana saying she had been trying to reach me. I let her know that she needed to dial + for an international call, since I was currently in the US. So the next morning, bright and early at 5AM EDT (that’s right!), I get a call from Joana. She has, of course, woken me up for a deep sleep. I emailed her immediately after this happened to remind her that I was CURRENTLY in the US, as I had stated before, and that calls that early were not acceptable and were well outside normal operating business hours. So 3-4 hours goes by, I’ve lost about two hours of sleep and have groggily started my day, so I decided to send Joana another email letting her know that I was disappointed in her lack of response and service so far, but here are my needs and requirements and I hope we can work this out. After having one of the worst possible introductions to Foxtons with this branch, two of the lettings girls completely turned the experience around for me! My first contact with this branch I basically went an hour out of my way, waited for half an hour in the office, just to be told that the 2 guys who could've shown me properties weren't coming at all to show me anything, and then took another hour to get back home. Massive time wasters!! HOWEVER, a few weeks later my wife found another property that was being let by these guys and reluctantly I decided to go see it. I was obviously very short with them over the phone and just wanted to get down to business. When I got there I was greeted with a smiley agent who was extremely professional and super friendly and informative, who ended up showing me 3 great properties instead of just one. The lettings manager who then assisted was just as friendly and professional and had such great knowledge of the area, it made me a little more trusting! I guess they are good if you are selling the house, but from a tenant perspective, I have not had a good experience with them. Especially if you are living in the property which is getting rented out, they have been very unsympathetic, and pushy, unreliable and unprofessional. I have myself rented and went on lot of viewings with foxtons. Have had great experience with Foxtons Tooting and Foxtons Chiswick, but Foxtons balham has pushed me to my limit where in i am forced to send this review and sincerely hope someone pays attention to it. They have given incorrect report to my landlord hence spoiling my relations with her and thereby making my current moving out very painful. My recommendations for them would be:- 1) If you have to coordinate with existing tenants to book a viewing, pls coordinate and get a time from them first instead of booking at random based on your personal one hour slot. 2)Please evaluate objectively if the existing tenant is willing to work with you or not, OR are they being completely unreasonable. If they are giving you alternatives and you are unable to make that time, it is not necessarily their fault. Just to give you explicit direction- Not having entertain 1 viewing request out of 10 does not make a tenant unreasonable. It's just that they might having a lot on their plate that day. Also, the feedback given to landlord cannot be that tenants are being uncooperative. It should be that a good time cannot be worked out based on agents and tenants time table. All blame cannot be put on a tenant because pls bear in mind the impact it would have on landlord and tenant relation. Again, evaluate objectively whether the tenants are willing to work with you or are they being absolutely unreasonable. 2) Having gone on a lot of viewings myself, I understand the importance of tidiness in a property. but again, please make an effort to understand the current situation of existing tenants. If they are giving you a notice that the house is dirty and you know that the potential tenants would not like it, then pls do not bring people over for that viewing. if the house is dirty on all the viewings, then absolutely give feedback to the landlord. But if the house is dirty twice or thrice amongst the ten different times when the viewings were arranged and when you arranged a viewing specifically after being called out that tenants are in the middle of packing etc...then it requires a different feedback to the landlord. 3) The arrangement made by the tenants in terms of advance notice needs to be appreciated and if you are giving a 15min notice instead of 2hour notice then kindly have the courtesy of showing up or atleast calling and letting the people know you will not come. 4) PLS DONOT BLAME THE EXISTING TENANTS FOR PRICES BEING DROPPED FOR THE PROPERTY. PLS REMEMBER EVEN IF YOU HAVE REDUCED THE FUTURE, EXISTING TENANTS ARE STILL PAYING ORIGINAL PRICE ON RENT...! This review is coming from a person whose wife has to manage a two and half year old toddler, a full time demanding job, a dog and manages stuff all alone through the week since I have a travelling job and am unavailable monday through thursday. I am very disappointed by how foxtons has completely ruined my relations with my landlady because of all the incorrect feedback they have given her without being sympathetic towards my family and our regular routine and without appreciating how much they disrupt our regular routine by these adhoc viewings and in-spite of us going out of the way to make time for them, the feedback given to landlord is completely opposite to the truth. I am still providing these agents with the professional courtesy of not mentioning their name, but i hope they look into this review and improve these things.... Read more

He took the time to clearly understand my requirements (no one outside of Foxtons has ever been able to effectively achieve this) and was able to offer real value over the automated alerts I have setup on all the major portals. This is the 3rd time we have used this office and the experience keeps getting better and better. Chris and his team go above and beyond anything you could ever expect with an estate agent and do an impeccable job in all aspects. We could always reach them, nothing is too much trouble, they are reliable, dependable, very honest and incredibly experienced in what they are doing, and within our area. We had enormous problems with freeholders and solicitors and Chris was the one driving the sale over the line to the point where our own solicitor said there is no way the sale would have gone through without Chris and Foxtons managing the process. We genuinely love working with Chris, Dominic, their teams and Foxtons in general as the whole process is managed for you, in the most professional manner, to the highest standards, in order to achieve the best for each of their clients. They are the premium real estate agent in our area and when we have to deal with other estate agents I cant believe the level of incompetency and blasé attitude, plus you can never reach who you need to speak to. However, Matthew was nothing like that- he was up front and honest about all the apartments, and showed me such a variety of apartments so he could better understand my needs, and he even mapped out the distance for every apartment to my office. Foxtons are very attentive and I was particularly impressed by Akua who is very helpful, enthusiastic and professional. A shining star in a very competitive market place with lots of eager estate agents. She is a dolphin amongst some sharks. I viewed a number of properties with Akua but my strict criteria on "box ticking" was not quite achieved.
