We met with 6 estate agents before choosing Hamptons. They were professional, open, honest and in no way pushy or 'salesy' as some agents can be. Simon Humm from Hamptons Blackheath was condescending and dismissive when he came to value our flat. He gave a ridiculously-low valuation telling us that the decorations looked old-fashioned and would put buyers off. Fortunately we went with another local agent who sold our property for significantly more than Hampton's valuation and after only 6 weeks. Be careful of agents giving suspiciously low valuations. It can be a sign that they want to buy the property cheaply either for themselves or for one of their associates. I've heard this is a common trick, often targeted at the elderly and vulnerable.... Terrible customer service. After the valuation and photography of my apartment was completed, I reflected on my interactions with Hamptons to date and had a bad gut feel. I'd be selling my property whilst being located quite far away, and wasn't impressed with the communication. This alongside what I felt was a low valuation (compared with other previous valuations) meant I decided to pull out of going with Hamptons. Fine and we could have parted ways easily there. Instead when I explained my concerns, the "senior head of sales" sent an email which didn't apologise but instead defended all the actions being taken and went into detail about his personal problems. Fine and understandable, but sorry seems to be the hardest word... After this I decided I wanted my keys back and to part ways pronto. I went into the office where this same man asked me what the issue was and when I started to talk he proceeded to talk over me telling me "What your problem is..." in a tone that I found to be aggressive. He then started talking about the valuation. I just wanted to cut the conversation there so asked, again, for my keys to which he scoffed and rolled his eyes. I can't help but think had I been a man, he probably wouldn't have tried to belittle me in an open office this way. Regardless, I wouldn't touch this company with a barge pole after my interactions with this rude man.... Read more

I chose Hamptons Blackheath to sell my house based on the interest shown by Joe in getting the property on the books. He was prompt in communication, open to a tiered fee structure and quick to get pictures/ marketing materials. Peter, Cat and Lucy organised and conducted viewings and following an open day with several iniquities buyers, we accepted an offer. Hamptons appointed Jessica as the sales progressor and she followed up with us, our buyers and solicitors to keep us all updated. The team was respectful, helpful, considerate and responsive all through. From marketing to completion at a price point we were happy with in under 100 days including Christmas and people being off sick due to COVID - Hamptons definitely earned their commission - which isn’t something one often hears about Estate Agents. Hampton's promised us several things in their sales' pitch and didn't deliver, such as a weekly update from the office manager, a long list of people who are interested in our house, and other things. Considering they were the most expensive option, we were very disappointed with their behaviour. During the 9 months it took them to sell our property, the staff blatantly mislead us, giving us false information, that ultimately cost us a few thousand pounds. Their communication was lacking at best, they did not keep us updated and we felt pressured and at times bullied by them to give them urgent responses, eventually agreeing to a price that was £10,000 less than what we had wanted. We also caught them lying to us. We gave them every chance to, at the very least, apologise, but instead of admitting they were wrong, they kept deflecting and giving us more mistruths. It reached a point that we refused to communicate with them directly any more as we couldn't trust anything they said to us (considering how much we paid them, it's disgraceful that it reached that point). If you are going to sell with them, my advice would be not to talk to them on the phone but make sure you have absolutely everything from them in writing. Also, make sure you read the wording of each of their emails properly, as they are very clever at hiding the truth behind misleading phrasing.... Read more

Terrible. Viewed a rental property, made an offer and was told they do not accept offers. Finally my offer was accepted and a few hours later I learned that someone else was able to move in sooner then me so they were given the property even though I had speeded up my notice period. No paper trail only phone calls so no record of what was agreed. Then when I finally asked for the outcome in an email the facts as they saw them had been distorted. Shocking and unprofessional behaviour. They give decent agents a bad name.
