Sold our house for asking price!

Our situation was that we bought and renovated our home to live in Denton Burn, however, we ended up with an opportunity to move abroad, meaning selling our home was on the cards sooner than we anticipated.

However, what we had spent in total was slightly higher than what I could see houses were selling for. Furthermore, the hot topic at the end of 2019 was Brexit, and some mortgage companies and valuers were down-valuing homes after good offers were made, concerned that there would be a price crash. This had caused some "run of the mill" sales to fall through and there were fewer buyers looking than previous years.

Two other estate agents told us to advertise either unrealistically higher (risking no viewings coming through the door, or playing a game of price reductions), and far lower (risking selling too quickly, selling ourselves short and losing some of the money we spent on the home).

We took advice from Victoria Skoyles who has a good reputation for selling homes in Newcastle. It felt like she was the one who had the natural skill to pull all the intricate details together that had to be factored in during a time of uncertainty and pull off the right result. Knowing this area street by street she acknowledged some points that were different about our home which others had missed, gave us some valuable insights into how the buying market was behaving today, and came up with a price she could justify with a good plan.

When we advertised our home with Northwood between Victoria, Andrew and Jayne they took brilliant photographs, organised 9 viewings and to our amazement, within a month they got us three offers! The last being at the actual asking price.

If you haven't sold your own house before, there are two main halves to the service (advertising and sales progression), but at each stage there is a lot of communication between you. Your estate agent will get to see the best and worst of you because it is an exciting and stressful moment in your life and it feels like such an uncertain process even when it goes well. At each point of contact this team empathised with, worked around, and completely understood the situation we were in.

Once the offer was accepted they didn't just sit back and wait for the solicitors to do their work, the levels of service increased further chasing the buyers's solicitors up, following us up when we hadn't done something etc.

We really appreciated one day in particular when Victoria answered us promptly during what appeared to be a week of 12+ hour work days because all of her colleagues were unfortunately ill at the same time in January with this winter's cough/cold/flu bug.

She didn't just clock off at 5:30 and leave us hanging - she always did what needed to be done to keep the sale running smoothly and kept us in the updated right away on less urgent matters - that week wouldn't have been easy for her.

We can't thank everybody enough including Sara, Michaela, Megan and Inde for the effort and teamwork involved in making sure the sale is completed and we can start our next chapter.

Very poor from the moment we moved in, we moved in to a property that had no heating as the boiler needed fixing this was in "Beast from the East" lucky we could stay with family during those two week. The garden was disgraceful with over 100 screws that we had to remove. Throughout the tenancy numerous issues that took ages to resolve. And during check out wr left the house as clean as when we moved in but still "needed cleaning".

They seem to do anything ti take as much money as possible and when you ring to chase this up or questiont this with them the person who is in charge is never in or unavailable at the moment.

This is not just a rant from a disgruntled tenant, several friends who rented through northwood have experience similar issues.

They have taken none of the issues we raised but continued to place the blame on ourselves.

I do not appreciate your reply in where you imply I failed to inform you I had COVID. I did not fail to inform you, the shower had broken for the third time we raised the issue and waited for it to be fixed, and in the wait time I contracted COVID which I i formed the contractor as quick as possible, this is a forum for reviews whether you agree or disagree. You should not write in your reply or hint at my profession nor any personal details it is some what a breach.

As first time buyers we were so surprised at how helpful and involved Northwood were from the viewing through to completion. From week one we received weekly email or phone updates from Wendy and she was always chasing up solicitors or the vendor, making sure any queries or delays were dealt with. Victoria was really helpful during the week of completion, smoothing out details with the vendor and updating us regularly on moving day.

DO NOT USE THEM! Shockingly bad service from Northwood, went to view a property, was told it was available and that if we were interested to send the application back asap. Which we did, on the day we received it! Even chased it the next day, anyway, a couple of days later I called them only to be told by Kady that it had been given to someone else! Bearing in mind she was the one who emailed us initially to say it was available. It's obvious that they were using us a back up plan. We were told we could pay a fee to reserve it, which we were willing to pay, we acted fast, got our references and payslips together super quick on the understanding we were going to get it. There was no communication from when we made the application. Absolutely horrified!

If I could give more stars I would.

Fantastic service from all, at Bowes Mitchell. Especially from Michael and lynn.

They go above and beyond. I can honestly say they were excellent from start to finish. We were always informed of any new information very promptly.

All of the team was always happy and cheerful and even though we could be on the phone two to three times. I was always greeted with a happy phone call.

This is the best Estate Agents with whom I have dealt.

Happily I chose Bowes Mitchell to find me an excellent rental property last year. Clare and Emma on the rentals team found me a lovely quiet property near to my work. During my stay nothing was too much trouble. After 2 disappointing previous rentals through other estate agents I can honestly say that Bowes Mitchell are the best in the North East.

Giving the above Bowes Mitchell also advertised the property I have just bought. Claire, Michael and Lynn on the sales team are extremely honest, professional and very lovely to deal with. They found me my ideal property and despite the difficulties of the seller being in another country they made everything as easy as possible.

A truly excellent business run by lovely people. I'm very pleased I walked into their offices in August 2019...they have found me 2 excellent properties.

Very friendly and professional staff! We have been renting though BM for over a year and have always received quick and helpful responses to any queries. Special thanks to Emma for her friendly attitude and help with getting permission keeping a pet in the flat. Definitely will reccomend Bowes Mitchell for other people looking to rent in the area.

I can highly recommend Bowes Mitchell, Benton. We have recently sold my deceased mothers house and they were absolutely brilliant. Lynn and her team were so professional and very friendly, nothing was any trouble. I felt Lynn went above and beyond and she really is a huge credit to Bowes Mitchell. A big thank you to Lynn, Claire and Michael ????
