Three estate agents were asked to tender for the opportunity to sell our late parents house in Didcot, after all the tenders had been submitted we chose Thomas Merrifield and its representative Jamie to act on our behalf.
And what a good choice we made, Jamie was never ever less than totally professional, the marketing of the house was quickly organised with the results put online promptly, subsequent enquiries and viewings were dealt with by Jamie, to our surprise it wasn't long before an offer was received which we were happy to accept.
A mere twelve weeks from that initial meeting and all the legal stuff has been completed, the sale of the house is now finalised, new owners have taken possession and our old house of 40+ years is about to embark on a new adventure with its new family.
We could not have done this without the help, guidance and advice from the team at Thomas Merrifield, especially Jamie. Thank you guys, you are heartily recommended.

I have recently completed the sale of my late Mother's bungalow. The majority of my dealings were with Nick, who was excellent. My Mother's bungalow had severe water damage from burst pipes and had not been lived in for a long while. In addition, my personal circumstances meant I was unable to devote time and effort with the sale.
Nick advised how to market the property, arranged for it to be checked over and cleaned up ready for viewings. I did not have to do anything except approve his suggestions. Once we had a buyer and as Nick was on holiday, George took over. He recommended an excellent company to empty the bungalow and dealt with the final details.
I could not praise them both highly enough.

If you're considering buying or selling a property, I highly recommend Thomas Merrifield in Didcot. As a first-time buyer, I viewed at least five properties with different agents, but Thomas Merrifield stood out. They were the only agency that adjusted their valuation according to the current housing market conditions. Unlike other agents who were still valuing properties £20K higher based on historical data, Thomas Merrifield recognized the unique challenges of the present situation, such as high-interest rates and an inflationary environment. This adaptability is why Thomas Merrifield is successfully selling more properties than others.
Our transaction was smooth, and credit goes to Jamie, who was proactive, decisive, and consistently kept me informed through emails and phone calls. The other team members were also approachable, friendly, and prompt in their actions.

If you need a rental property I can’t recommend this Thomas merrifield enough.
They helped us renting a property in Didcot while we were still living in the Netherlands.
From day 1 they delivered and never broke our trust. Every question I had was answered quickly and clear. After arriving in Didcot and meeting the letting team and seeing their interaction with other customers I can honestly say that these people love to help out and make sure you get the property you want. If you need a property around Didcot use this estate agent and you won’t be disappointed.

We are buyers in Didcot and new to the area, so we have had experience of a number of Estate agents and the way they handle pricing, marketing and viewings.
Although we have not had a bad experience with any local estate agents I felt drawn to give this review and would say the experience in this first stage with Thomas Merrifield has been the best, and would probably convince us to list with them if down the line we wanted to sell.
The quality of their photos and staging is exceptional so you really see the property's 'bones' clearly. On viewings they are particularly knowledgeable honest and transparent about the potential good points and flaws of any property, and have good advice about how a buyer could work with these while also listening to us and our requirements.
Other viewings we have had with different agents there has been quite a lot of 'estate agent' speak which can be tiring and not helpful - trying to persuade us that a flaw can actually be seen as a positive. Some other agents also took us to viewings having no foundational information about the house- just there to open the door, basically.
We found the Thomas Merrifield agents who showed us property had detailed information about the house and the vendors which saved time and energy trying to follow up later.
Lastly and importantly their pricing seems spot on and they are quick to react to the market so are not sitting with overpriced property on their books while still looking for a fair price.
This is all great from a buyer's perspective but I think would also be very helpful if selling with them as they will not sugar-coat comments and will give you honest and forthright advice about how to best market your property.

Nicolette & the lettings team at the didcot branch are useless.
They’ve made me feel unsafe in where I’ve been living. They are very unprofessional, especially when trying to add me on my social media accounts!!
I have never felt comfortable with the service that they have provided.
I was asked to wipe away mould from my rotting windows!
Their service is disgusting.
They take days to reply to emails and sort out issues within the house.
They are definitely not reliable!!!

I went online and requested a viewing , I received automated reply that one of the agents will make contact , two days later I called the office and received a out of the office message asking me to leave my number and one of the agents would call me , this never happened , the following day I did the same leaving my number etc , I must say if I was listing my house to sell I definitely would not recommend this business , the potentially lost sales must be ridiculous , I would have to ask is this organisation really giving me the best opportunity to sell my property at the best price , I am inclined to think not ,never mind the buyers and the service that should be provided to them , my opinion is these guys are not serious and definetly do not deserve my business and should look up the definition of customer service snd try it, it really works .

We have just sold and bought with Thomas Merrifield and could not have asked for a better service from them.
THE EASY PART
They showed us a fantastic house, which we are now delighted to call home!
They then found us a buyer for ours and it all went through in 5 weeks. James Merrifield did a great job of ensuring both our buyer and we were happy with the price, dates and ensured all parties were lined up for a successful completion.
THE HARD PART
The vendor of our new property had not completed paperwork such that we could not move in until 2 months after the originally agreed completion date. Thomas Merrifield, Nick Wilder specifically, was relentless in his efforts to resolve every issue, took on the role of planning officer, solicitor, negotiator and any other hat he needed in order to understand the complexities of what should have been a very simple process, and ensure we moved in as soon as humanly possible. He negotiated a rental period for us, whilst we were waiting for the sign off to complete, and post completion looked after us to ensure we were settled, happy and confident that all issues had been resolved.
An absolutely fantastic service from all, I would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone looking to buy or sell.

Our property was shared ownership and whilst we could only initially sell through the housing association (a condition of shared ownership), it was difficult to get viewers through the door. We then had the option of selling on the open market and as soon as we contacted TM we had perspective buyers streaming through the door and then a buyer within a couple of weeks!

I was very happy with the service I received from Thomas Merrifield in Didcot when they sold my house. The viewings were predominantly taken care of by Rhianna and the financial negotiations by James. They make a formidable team ensuring my house sold for a fair price with both seller and buyer happy. I would certainly use them again. My only criticism would be they use an external booking system to notify you of viewings, sometimes these emails end up in spam so keep a close eye on your junk folder.

From the moment James came around to value our house, we knew we were in safe hands. He has the most relaxed yet reassuring manner and he quickly put us at ease. Before it even got to market, James had already sold our place as he had so many clients on his books.
Unfortunately, the house we wanted to buy was stuck in a large chain but James more than earned his money but making sure we were informed about the state of play of all parties in this chain; he must have spend hours per week chasing things up for us, always going that extra mile. Ultimately the chain fell apart but James still help to retain our buyers and within 6 weeks of the collapse we had found and bought a different, better place where we are happily living now. There were some very dark days during the chain saga and we did think about pulling out but James kept us smiling. Without James, our current move would not have happened and therefore I cannot thank him enough for his diligence and reassurance. Thomas Merrifield are the kind of estate agents that are a pleasure to deal with, which is very rare. I recommend dealing with James and Penny, who we used for our sale, they were professional, efficient and friendly at all times. We had other estate agents visit our house for valuations before proceeding with Thomas Merrifield but they either overinflated the valuation figure or seemed generally disorganised.
