Chancellors

12a West Way, Botley, Oxford

Our experience as prospective buyers with the Botley branch (not other branches) is that they took a significant amount of time to (or wouldn’t) respond to emails, and when called, would say that they would get someone to call back, but this never happened.

SG F

Elizabeth was very friendly and helpful in discussing potential changes we could make to the house we were viewing. Even though we were under time constraints she didn't make us feel pressurised, which we appreciated!

Avoid them at all costs! Their business model for advertising properties for sale is, go see the seller and convince them they can sell the house for a higher price than other estate agents as they have sold a lot in the area, win the business and then just a week and half later, get a team manager from the head office in Bracknell to lower the price as there are not enough viewings and it keeps going on and on. Don't be fooled by their proactiveness and speed to get you on the market, that's literally all they care about (The 1 star is for that). You will only get viewers who are never interested to spend anything close to what you have advertised it for, ending in receiving constant feedback from viewers saying 'They feel they could secure a property larger than your's at a better price'. To top it all off, they managed to loose hold of our only buyer, who gave an offer, which we eventually accepted (on the same day) and we were being mis-guided by saying they couldn't get hold of the buyer, whereas we found out that Chancellors never followed up with our buyer, so he ended up buying few other properties, being an investor. 14 weeks into a 16 week contract with them, I felt this was just a waste of time and lodged a complaint with their Directors and to their head office and requested to stop all services for us, which they did eventually after another few round of email pestering. It has been more than 2 weeks now and I haven't heard anything back anything regarding the complaint, except for a complaint acknowledgement email and the head office saying they are 'investigating' call records. Unless you have lots of time to spare and don't mind dressing up your house for viewers who will never make you an offer near to your asking price, as they are never intending to buy a house around that price, which I believe none of you would been keen on, stay away from them. Absolute cons! PS: To put a contrast into the whole aspect, we ended up going with Bairstow Eves and they sold our house for 99% of the asking price and in just the third viewing. This is how quick things could have been done!

This is a terrible company to avoid at all costs. I have periodically advertised a property to let through another agent and every time I am constantly pestered by people from this agent who miraculously have a queue of tenants who want to let my property. I have asked them repeatedly to stop calling me and they just continue to do so. They are unethical in their practices and a total nuisance. I would never ever use them based on my experience

I could write paragraphs on why signing with Chancellors has been a deeply regrettable experience, a regret compounded by the fact two houses have sold within a hundred meters within a matter of two weeks of the boards going up (Simpsons and Oliver James). Lack of viewings, contact or any action plan is where we are currently. At the start the third parties involved were unprofessional, taking me (not the agent) ages and many calls before they even answered. Still, eventually I got in contact, and I've paid (~£300) of which Chancellors will get their cut. Hopefully I'll be made to look silly and a buyer, or even another viewer can be found, before the contract runs down - I suspect I'll be spared the shame though.

We first employed Chancellors of Abingdon in September 2019. Our main contact throughout was Holly Wood and she provided superb support and assistance throughout. The whole process was drawn out due to the Lockdown but we there was always help and support through this difficult period. At the last minute there was a major problem which was handled efficiently and effectively . We would highly recommend them and the staff at Abingdon

Chancellors - Amersham

I could do with no reviews if there was an option. I was shown property and since then there was no follow up at all. I ended up chasing negotiator almost daily basis for a response or update on the offer, but every time I used to get someone saying negotiator is busy and will get back when he could. It totally felt like banging my head against the brick wall. I would not recommend to use Amersham branch at all.

Gaurav Mehta

I had an wonderful experience at Chancellors in Amersham due to Shaun Haywood. Shaun showed us around a property in Little Chalfont last week, he was polite and knowledgeable, knowing all the answers to our questions. We have placed an offer on the house and look forward to working with him throughout the rest of the purchase. Jessica

Chancellors - Aylesbury

We contacted the Aylesbury Branch last Saturday. Requesting details on a property we are potentially looking to rent. Despite a further email to another account. No one has contacted us. I called the office this morning at 11.30 spoke to someone who advised that a message would be passed on to call back. Again no one has called back, I have just tried to call again 3.15pm but no one is answering and found that there is no facilities to leave a message. I am extremely disappointed to say the least and find your company highly unprofessional. I would like a response.

Gemma Patterson

Great customer service. We're currently looking to move places and although we haven't found "The One", the team has been super supportive and patient with us. They've kept me up to date and clarified all the questions we had. Special thanks to Matthew Collins and Felicity Bramall!

Huge thank you to Chancellors in finally helping us into our new place. After a tough time with other letting agents, we are finally into a home that we love. Special thank you to Matthew for keeping us in the loop during the process. He left me comfortable knowing that things were being taken care of! Thank you Matthew!

Terry at Chancellors has been a breath of fresh air when it comes to estate agents. We really had given up hope of finding someone we felt was honest and reliable, but he managed to make us feel confident and happy with our buying/selling experience. We would definitely look to use Chancellors and Terry in the future, if we decide to move on again. Thank you for everything.

Chancellors - Carterton

Lack of communication, do not do what they say they will do. Directors are good and want to resolve issues but seriously gets let down when it gets to the Carterton branch.

Me & my partner recently purchased our first house with Chancellors and it wasn't the greatest of experiences however it did end well. First of all we had viewing with Simon who we both thought was very unprofessional, rude & had absolutely no idea on any questions that we asked on the first few viewings on the property and whenever we asked him to find out this information, we would never hear anything back meaning we would then have to chase, and chase for answers and would argue with us when we then got through to him. One day we rang to do just that, to find that Simon had moved to another store, we no longer had a main contact at Chancellors and we had no idea who to speak to, when we did finally find out who to contact, they then left in a matter of weeks, we AGAIN didn't know who to contact, we rang up numerous times asking who we need to speak to, at this point Ben took over our purchase, and he was very helpful and answered our queries and helped us in every way we could and he took us all the way up to completion along with the assistance from head office, this ended our experience with Chancellors on a better note, i just wish we had dealt with Ben throughout the whole purchase. For us, Ben has single handedly saved this from being a one star! Ben, Thank you.

I rented recently with Chancellors. It seems there are some fake reviews here. But the lettings reviews are 100% correct. They are nice when it suits them eg whilst selling a place. Renting from them was an absolute nightmare. The lettings team are lying constantly, played the same game by whitholding my deposit even though the landlord had said it was fine and to allow me to have the deposit back. On top of that, the check in and out inventry, don't use them. They are not legit and have a deal with them. They will try their best to keep back the deposit. And will want their own cleaner to do the job, if you refuse they will be looking for any fault or create a fault. I would strongly suggest if you rent, go else where! These people are liars, especially the ladies in the lettings department. I will never use them again and will ensure all my friends and family go else where going forward.

S G

They will do what they can to get your instructions and once in the market will try to bring down your asking price. Only had 1 viewing per 2 weeks in average. Weekly calls stopped after a couple of weeks.

Lara, the Sales Manager at Chancellors doesn't know a thing about customer service. Very unprofessional and the way the she speaks to people is terrible. Doesn't know the correct information about the law of lettings at all. Very rude.

I am using my daughter's account for this review. I would like to say that in my property search since March I found Alice Rench the most helpful, professional and pleasant person to deal with out of all the agents I encountered on the way. Although, I am buying from another agent she stood out for the aforementioned reasons. Thanks Alice, all the best! Anita Taralrud.

I was looking for a small rental property in Oxford and was keen to move to the area. When I contacted Chancellors I spoke to Jordan, he was extremely helpful, honest, and provided lots of useful advice about the properties they had for rent, and other general information about the area. In the end I actually ended up renting a property through another agent as Chancellors didn't have what I was looking for at the time. This aside, as the overall customer experience from Jordan was so good, I felt it was necessary to leave a positive review.

I have been working with Chancellors East Oxford branch for nearly five years now managing three different properties. Throughout this time the service has been consistently excellent. The communication has always been clear, prompt and professional. The best thing is the personalised approach, which I haven't come across at other estate agents in Oxford.

Chancellors - Didcot

We recently used Chancellors in Didcot to move to a rented property and were very impressed with the personal service we received. Tom and Jack were great, we mainly liaised with Tom and he was proactive and updated us at every stage at such a challenging time with the COVID virus. In my short experience with letting agents in Didcot I think Chancellors and more specific Tom are a credit to the service, we experienced very poor service from other agents in the area and it was a welcome surprise to us that Tom and Chancellors were so proactive and caring. I would not hesitate to use the branch again and would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

Jack from Didcot has been amazing, understanding my situation in property searches, very responsive, pleasant Pro active and very helpful.

Chancellors - Finchley

My landlord instructed them to market my flat. I explained really politely that we have a newborn baby at home, and due to the COVID outbreak, we will not be letting anyone in. Jack then replies saying they will insist on access, and use the key while I am out if necessary. Due to the fact that the law says that my parents are not allowed to come and visit their first grand child, on WHAT PLANET is it acceptable to try and insist on complete strangers going into the flat?!?!? I re iterated that no one will come round, and to Jack's credit he did drop the issue... however he then sent a followup email asking me to arrange a personal clean, or they will make a deduction from my deposit to pay for it. First of all, I didn't rent through Chancellors, so why they think they have any say over my deposit is beyond me. Secondly, a clean was not paid for when we moved in. It would have taken Jack all of about 3 seconds to check this. So quick to threaten me TWICE when I was nothing but calm and polite in my initial email saying I dont want to put my newborn at risk during a global pandemic. The sheer disregard for fellow human beings is astonishing frankly. "all in this together" indeed.....

Panikos Kleanthous

They can't seem to perform the simplest of tasks. I phoned to enquire about a property to rent and asked if the landlord would accept pets as I have one. The agent I spoke to said no but would I consider properties which don't allow pets? Of course my answer was NO as I had just told him that I have a pet! He then said he would call me back about upcoming pet friendly properties without even taking my contact details. It's not really rocket science is it?
