Moving home is an ordeal but when it’s from London to Somerset after 20 years the whole process was made easier and stress free thanks to the efficient and professional staff at Palmer Snell in Yeovil but in particular Jazz. Jazz showed us around a lovely rental property in South Petherton and when it was love at first sight she went above and beyond to get it for us. A month in and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. We would highly recommend Palmer Snell especially Jazz to look after you and all your needs. Before I start; our sale coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, so delays and uncertainty were to be expected. However, I would seriously reconsider if you are thinking of selling your house through Palmer Snell in Yeovil. To start, the agent who came out to see us certainly talked the talk, giving it ‘the big one’ about being better than the other estate agents we had used and why we shouldn’t have chosen them in the first place. Typical estate agent nonsense. It started well with a couple of viewings on different days, but then Palmer Snell told us we would have 3 viewings on the same day. The first was genuine, the second was a phantom viewing, the third never happened. We appreciate they use the block booking technique to create a sense of urgency for buyers, but we certainly did not expect them to try and fool us in to thinking there was more interest than there actually was. To explain, we have proof that the second viewing was in fact not someone interested in the house, but a friend/colleague of the Palmer Snell agent supposedly showing prospective buyers around our home. They had a good natter about their personal lives in our kitchen, discussed what we looked like from the photographs on the wall, had a quick tour saying ‘they shouldn’t have a problem selling this place’ and then left together. Again, we have absolute proof of this. To top that off, they didn’t hang around to see if the third viewing would arrive, so presumably it didn’t exist. We were desperate to sell, so didn’t want to call them out on this for fear they might not both too much with our property. However, I thought I’d press for some feedback from the second and third viewings. The agent's response; “pretty much the same as the first viewing”. Lies. We finally sold, but then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, so we fully appreciated that there would be delays. However, as all other estate agents opened up and carried on, Palmer Snell in Yeovil did not. If we wanted to get in touch, we were told to send emails to a particular address. When we did, we received an automated response saying that this mailbox was no longer being used. All phone lines went dead. We ended up having to provide updates to the other estate agents in the chain as they couldn’t get a response either. Woeful to say the least. To top it off, we made the mistake of going with their own solicitor (Countrywide Conveyancing) as they would be able to push things through quickly and get regular updates. Feel free to check out the review on this useless company too if you have a minute. We’ve certainly learned our lesson. I appreciate that reviews are often only left when you have something to gripe about, but as you’ll see from my profile, the vast majority (apart from Countrywide/Palmer Snell companies) are pretty positive. Jennie Wheatley is wonder woman! We needed to find a property to rent near Crewkerne due to the landlord requesting possession of the property we had been renting for 12 years. We popped in Mayfair Town & country Crewkerne where we met Jennie. I can honestly say she was 100% fabulous and found us a beautiful house to rent in which we are now living. Friendly yet professional Jennie made the process effortless, nothing was too much trouble to her. Our heartfelt thanks Jennie, you are a gem and an absolute credit to Mayfair Town and Country. Rented a property through the estate agent, which happened to belong to the estate agent owner Stephen Froy. We were promised that the property would be in a good condition when we moved in, however we arrived with it being filthy. Dust was everywhere, leak around the toilet and the stench of damp everywhere. The oven was also thick with grease and grime that must have been built up over years. When we addressed the problems to elder and Froy estate agents it took a vast amount of time for us to receive a response from the landlord (Stephen Froy); legal action had to be mentioned until he would respond. Eventually he came to visit the property, to view the problems. His response when my fiancé mentioned the uncleanliness of the house was "I am a man, I don't notice these things". Luckily enough we manage to escape the contract early, however had to throw away items due to mould growing on items we had stored in the kitchen cupboards, this included a George foreman Grill and table matts.... Impossible to book viewings at a weekend with these people (rental). I tried to book 3 properties to view, no attempt to fit me in at a weekend (apparently reduced staff only weekends & only open Sat morning!). Landlords - be wary - if you want tenants that are working, how are they going to view properties only during weekday working hours? I would have certainly taken one of these properties had I been able to view. Terrible customer service.... Read more

Under no circumstances sell your business with Hilton Smythe. We made the unfortunate decision to sign a six month contract with them back in February this year to sell our shop. A valuer visited us and told us that if we paid so much upfront, they'd be no more fee's to pay and if the shop wasn't sold within six months we could simply pull it off the market or go with someone else. It was originally marketed and valued at £50,000. Initially we had a lot of interest and a sale looked likely. Then lockdown happened three weeks into the shop being advertised and all went quiet until late July, early August. Barely anything from Hilton Smythe. This we had expected due to the circumstances. In the meantime, the shop has been open and trading extremely well. Then come early August, we start being messed around by the agent. Suddenly and without any warning another agent has taken over and is arranging viewings with people who are not properly vetted. We're let down at the last minute by people who don't show up. We then reduce the price of our business in an effort to sell quicker, even then the agents kept calling with offer's well below the new asking price and when we turned them all down, we were made to feel like we're the ones being unreasonable and as though we should just accept any offer. Low and behold, we have decided to take our business off the market. Our contract ran out on August 2nd, therefore we are now out of contract. But... Hilton Smythe have stated that we have to give them six weeks notice for them to take our business off the market and in this time, we must accept viewings else we are liable for a fee of almost £3,000! We only received an actual copy of our contract, the day we gave Hilton Smythe our notice, which was two days ago. Yesterday, emails were flying back and forth between Myself and the agency over yet another no show. Hilton Smythe have become bullies and will stoop to any depths. They're not on the sellers side, the very people paying them and they will send anyone, unvetted, to waste your time on the promise of a sale. No matter how hard you try to get out of it, they will use 'the contract' against you. Do expect a level of stress that will drive you to the brink of a nervous breakdown and if you have a decent business, expect it to be adversely affected by bogus buyers phoning them and then you being forced into showing such people around! I urge anyone thinking of selling a business, go elsewhere. I wish I had seen some of these reviews back in February.... Read more
