Where do we start? We started letting a student property in September 2016, prior to this we had to get guarantors etc. My dad had previously started a new job and was still on probation but had been in his job before that for over 10 years. We phoned both landlord and William H Brown to see if this would be okay and they said yes. Then we get a phone call weeks later saying our application hasn't been processed because my one was unacceptable and I'd have to pay another £96 to get another guarantor. Both me and my dad phoned and explained how we'd been told this was okay and they said there was a miscommunication and not to worry. A year on and we're now at the stage where we decide if we want to stay on for our last year at University at the property or look elsewhere. We were told we should have received a letter which we sign if we want to stay. We didn't receive such thing and a sign went up outside the house without us having any input, but either way we decided we wanted to stay as it would be easier and phoned the branch day after day and we just kept getting 'we'll ring you back' with no call back or 'we need to talk to your landlord'. 3 months on and this was still the response we were getting. We phoned management, the branch and we even went in physically and were turned away and told to ring up which got us nowhere as we just got told things we already knew such as 'the property is being remarketed' which we sort of gathered by the big sign outside our house and the house viewings we were receiving. So we gave up and decided we no longer want to live here because it's been nothing but stress and then was finally phoned by our actual landlord saying they had been waiting for us to call with a decision. Over 3 months this had been going on. For our landlord not to know we've been trying to contact her means William H Brown must have not bothered phoning her for us as requested many times and told they were going to do. This is the worst customer service me and my housemates have ever received and are now looking for new properties so we do not have to deal with all of this again.... Read more

Honestly, I just started to look a house, 'cause I'm changing the living area. I called to ask about one house. But unfortunately that house's landlord is not accepting the cats. But in the same day I got a message about other house with even everything about what I was talking. I am so surprised how an amazing team is working here. If you are a seller, avoid. Amongst other things Leaders: - Never sent me a completed Contract to sign - Failed to list on Property Websites as a 'Premium listing' until I advised them that they had said that they would do this - Wildly over-valued my house, meaning that 2 months were wasted trying to sell at an unachievable price - Told me that price reductions do not show up on websites. They do. - Didn't give me prompt feedback after viewings. In every case I had to request them to give me feedback - Their sales team seems very small being one full-time agent and one part-time... I came to this estate agents to rent a property. At first they was fantastic and very helpful. But I later found that they had allowed myself and my 2 year old to move into a property with 2 abusive landlords that own GRMJ Properties, a heating system that's wasn't acceptable by myself and environmental health standards, damp problems and then 2 month into the tenancy myself and my infant would then go 3 months without hot water and after contacting them and asking them to help me find a new property they never contacted me back. The property had many many other problems. I moved out of the Abbey Crescent Property and I made the agency aware that all the problems was still there, they seem to show concern but the property was put straight onto the market even with the agency knowing that the landlords are abusive and they left me and my infact 3 months with no hot water and that environmental health had confirmed the property needs to have alot of work done it. I am sad to learn the concern from this company wasn't actually genuine. And after the angry and depression they knew I went though they still put the property on the marker for all of the next tenants to live in the same conditions as the landlords refuse to fix the property even with an infants living there. I asked to make a complaint when I called but they did not tell me the complaints system.... Read more

Appreciate this review comes amongst a lot of 5 star reviews but two things: firstly, we would have loved to have the experiences everyone else seems to have had and secondly, our experience is completely legit. Initially Barton and Co were very personable, very keen to ingratiate themselves, presenting themselves as a tight-knit, homespun antidote to the more cavalier lettings agents that operate in the local area. However, once we were in our new rental property the communication dried up and we rarely received acknowledgement of our emails from then on in. Though they did replace our oven quickly when we reported it (they hadn't checked it worked before we moved in) we spent the rest of our tenancy with a radiator hanging off the wall at a 45 degree angle, amongst other issues. We were misled as to the nature of our landlords as despite being informed that they wanted a professional couple as long-term tenants to look after their property, we were asked to leave the property after a year to vacate for a student let. The landlords wanted more dollar. After checking, we were informed we had had the opportunity to extend our contract ataan earlier date and it was intimidated that by not doing so we had reneged on the understanding with the landlord. This was unequivocally not the case, as our emails were never acknowledged and we were never advised of an alternative course of action once we reached the end of our initial tenancy. . I'm sure it was incompetence rather than malice, but they would not accept any culpability nor would they meet personally to discuss. I've worked in both property maintenance and communications so I found their behaviour galling. Furthermore, this move derailed our efforts to save for a mortgage deposit as we were forced to waste it on another rental deposit. Appreciate the above might be a bonus for many buy-to-let landlords in terms of misleading and effectively dispatching tenants when a chance to increase their profits presents itself. But should the wind change in favour of legislation which actually protects tenants from the debilitating effects of cowboy landlords, outfits like these will be found out.... Read more
