I've been here 3 times now with work colleagues and this place is really lovely. The food is very scrumptious and the early bird is excellent value plus I LOVE the gorgeous leather chairs. To top it all off, the staff are friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. A firm favourite.

Today, I went to have afternoon tea, which had been booked on 14th November 2018. I had got a voucher for my birthday from my work colleagues that was valid for a year. I took a girlfriend with me for the treat. When we arrived I asked the barman (front of house) whether he needed the voucher and he said no I’ll take it when you pay. The gins were very good, the afternoon tea was a little disappointing in content and had obviously been prepared in advance and perhaps the sandwiches hadn’t been covered up as they were dry on the edges and although average, it was palatable. After we had been given our tea, we were not approached again by the waitress and had to get her attention to request further drinks.
When we went to leave and settle the bill, I was told that they couldn’t accept the gift voucher as the business had changed hands and didn’t I know this? How would I know whether a business had changed hands.. I had travelled from Derby!! It’s not local to me.. the barman said it had changed hands in October.. the voucher I had was valid for a year from August.. there’s three things here that they should have put in place. When the booking was made by telephone, they should have asked when the voucher was purchased and explained the situation. Secondly the front of house barman should have checked the voucher when I offered it on arrival and could have explained the situation and I could have made an informed decision about staying and thirdly, they should have a sign explaining that any vouchers dated a year from when the business changed hands would not be upheld.. I was left standing there very upset as my afternoon had been ruined and I was embarrassed in front of my friend and then had to pay the bill in full!! The front of house manager then stated that it wasn’t their fault (the new owners) and he hoped it hadn’t spoilt the afternoon. I certainly won’t be returning.. not only was I disappointed in the actual tea, I was very upset about how it was handled and left there crying and angry in frustration. Very poor..
