Connells Grantham business mantras are seemingly deception, shockingly poor service & timekeeping, and theft. Throughout our tenancy they consistently failed to respond in a timely fashion to our requests, which at it's worst left us with an unsecured property (broken back door lock) for in excess of 7 weeks. Despite persistant emails & calls chasing the matter, Connells repeatedly demonstrated a complete lack of customer care, efficiency, or time management.
Now at the end of our tenancy, Connells have resorted to deception relating to the bond/deposit paid for our tenancy - though due to their complete lack of attention to detail & inability to understand basic math, we have emails to show their failings.
As we were going to be a pet household, we notified Connells at the start of our tenancy that we had 2 dogs. They told us this was fine but we would have to pay a £100 extra fee for a deep clean to be undertaken when our tenancy ended. Despite us reminding them of this on several occassions in the run up to our tenancy ending (without them questioning it)- they then claimed this was not the case and the fee was simply a £100 per pet payment, and not for a deep clean. This is just one example of the fraudulent activity they indulge in- for their explanation to ring true we would have been charged £200 extra as we stated 2 dogs on our application, but this was simply not the case - only £100 was charged. They have now tried to charge us again for a deep clean. This is a blatant lie by Connells Grantham and is a perfect example of how they treat their customers.
Sadly, the negatives surrounding this crooked letting agents do not end there. At the end of our tenancy we did leave a small number of personal possessions at the property, and both the front and back gardens needed work carrying out on them to bring them upto a reasonable condition. We fully understood and accepted this & rightfully this work should be deducted from our deposit. However, Connells went on to claim the full deposit would be withheld as the property was not clean (untrue- we left the property in a good condition ensuring all floors were cleaned, rooms were repainted to erase any marks, windows cleaned, kitchen cleaned etc.) In no way could it be justified that the £1300 deposit should be withheld in full.
Unfortunatly, Connells Grantham have been consistent in one area - that being poor customer service - so we are now pursueing them via legal means as they have shown no attempt to resolve this matter in a professional, honest, and fair manner.
There are a wide choice of lettings agents available in Grantham and I would stongly encourage anyone looking to rent a property to avoid the Connells branch like the plague. We were always very careful to conduct our contact with Connells via email soon after beginning the tenancy due to their tendancy for failure. I will now use this information to publicise my review of Connells Grantham on the net to try and save others from a similar experience. You have been warned - please don't make the same mistake that we did. Avoid.
