What a shame. Original five-star review below. Not any more. Savills will introduce a groundless claim to your landlord for withholding your deposit. Savills will then support the landlord's groundless claim to keep your cash. The excellent work of Simone and Holly (see below) was profoundly undermined by the property management team which at the end of a tenancy works with your landlord to find reasons not to return your deposit. When moving, you do not need the additional stress involved in utterly avoidable battles with a faceless suit, to prevent them from withholding your cash. I challenged three claims to withhold deposit from my last letting. The groundless nature of these was clearly illustrated by the speed that Savills capitulated and returned my money. Makes me wonder how many people cave, and the thousands lost each year to tenants as a result...? Following Savills engagement with this review, they stuck hard to their guns, blaming any desire to withhold deposit on the landlord, suggesting that they did not make any suggestion to landlords of for what they may be able to withhold deposit or how much. I was not convinced. They also defended the inflated prices they attempted to charge, claiming they follow industry standards. By way of example, they will attempt to charge you £65 if they think the washing machine smells a bit funny. (For the record it didn't.) Savills is clearly willing to sacrifice its reputation in support of landlords' groundless claims to withhold your deposits. Fairs fair, however, up until the end of the tenancy, they were very good.... Here's what I wrote at the beginning: Helpful, knowledgable, efficient. When looking for my first rented home, I was advised time and time again not to use letting agents due to their poor reputation. Unfortunately my experience with Martin and Co WGC was not an exception to this and why I've felt it necessary to leave a review. In the time I was renting through this company, I have only had one polite conversation with various members of the team. Despite always being polite and lenient myself, most correspondence had via email and phone call has been particularly rude, unprofessional and incompetent, and not at all the standards expected of a company who supposedly prides themselves in their customer service. Working in a similar industry myself, I can understand tenants frustrations but always would respond in a professional and courteous manner, unfortunately this isn't the case with the majority of the team at Martin and Co. Welwyn Garden City. We were left without hot water on several occasions and went 3 months without a working washing machine. All requests were recorded on our part but regularly we experienced far longer delays than seemingly necessary. It was very clear they didn't want to report or deal with a lot of maintenance problems as that involved asking the vendor of the property to spend money to fix them, thereby risking upsetting the vendor and losing business. While I understand you need to speak with the landlord to handle maintenance issues, that does not excuse problems lasting for weeks, months in my experience. At one point we received an email from a team member with an accusatory tone implying we had somehow broken an electrical item in the property, even though twice the professional THEY sent out informed both us and the company that it was a fault of the model itself and nothing to do with any user interference. Any emails regarding this from here were not responded to, or again, responded to in an impolite way. Attempts to contact the team were often unsuccessful, and when they were answered there was no consistent reply as to who was the property manager, which surely would be recorded on CRM systems that a well-known company such as Martin and Co. would use. Lastly, as I imagine someone from the team will be reading this, I encourage you to retain some of your humanity when dealing with enquiries regarding major problems with the properties you manage. Please remember these are people's homes, where people spend most of their lives.  For tenants to already be trying to live around problems they can't control and then for the people that can help them to be rude and unhelpful, it's enough to make someone feel extremely uncomfortable living in their home and it is a reason we did not want to continue business with this company. I would not advise anyone looking to rent to use Martin and Co due to my experience with the company. For any new tenants or landlords I encourage you to research the rights and expectations of you and the letting company to ensure you're not taken advantage of. I want to finish by saying none of my comments are in relation to the period of lockdown/interference due to COVID-19, I can appreciate that delays during this time are completely impossible to avoid. .... Recently divorced and wanting to start a new life in a new home was extremely exciting but, daunting. After a very pleasant, reassuring phone conversation with Andy McClelland (branch manager) and a reasonable valuation/selling price of my property was agreed. Within 48 hours I had viewings booked and Ellen Morley (sales negotiator) was AMAZING. She was extremely knowledgeable, professional , polite, punctual and always smartly dressed. She never failed to give me feedback, continued to keep in touch and reassured me constantly in what can only be described as the most "Craziest and difficult " year ever. She has sold my property and I am moving into my dream house 09/12/2020, I cannot thank you enough Ellen, Andy and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Connells at Stevenage to everyone. Thanks guys... Had one viewing, the agent was quite unprofessional. Apparently they just handled the viewing and had no actual info on the flat and what the landlord was looking for. Tried to book more viewings but each time I called they would say they'd get back to me. Spoiler: they never did. Wasted way too much time trying to let through this agent. TL;DR stay away, don't waste your time like I did.... Read more

If I could give this agent zero stars, I would. Terrible company. The people who have reviewed are affiliated with the company or have obviously been asked to make them look better than they are. DO NOT USE THEM. They exploit students and they made my second year of university particularly stressful. They only care about the money. Our terraced property was not even cleaned before we moved in! Our property was also missing vital things such as a fire blanket... slightly illegal don't you think? If you have any problems don't count on them for anything as they will NOT help you. We have battled with them to get our deposits back, we were a group of five girls - good tenants. We had to even pay for a cleaning fee, taken off our deposits which was apparently £450 for a small detached house. I have only just received my deposit back and I am now in final year. I had thought about taking things further but honestly I'm so glad I never have to deal with these people again. TRUST THE REVIEWS AND DO NOT USE.... Read more

I don't think you can do better than these people. I've bought and sold 4 properties and rented 3 times so "this isn't my first rodeo". Everyone in the Your Move (Hitchin branch) I've spoken to or exchanged emails with have been excellent. Robert showed me round the property dispite covid restrictions, had great knowledge of the property, the area, the lease, the management company, the current owner, and he was straightforward open and honest. He also has an enviable beard! Whenever I emailed with issues or queries, Peter responded quickly and professionally and escalated within third parties to get the right attention. If I remember correctly it was also he who was patient and professional while the vendor and I were haggling back and forth over small sums and minor contents. The solicitors I ended up with (Premier Property Lawyers Ltd) were ... let's keep it family friendly, "not good". However Linda at Your Move was amazing. When I was reaching the end of my tether she stepped in worked some magic and in a day we were within touching distance of exchange. I can't thank her enough. If it weren't for her I would probably be piling my stuff into a rental van and driving up the M1 to move into the reception of the solicitors right now. Instead I'm in the lounge of my new home, a couple of celebratory glasses of bubbly in. Thank you thank you thank you :-) As I said at the start I don't think you can hope for better. I hope to be living where I am for some time but if I'm ever selling or renting it out in the future, I'll be calling them and I hope if I buy a property again it's being sold by this team.
