We had to leave our Hampshire home at short notice following a disastrous oil leak. Mid-November is not a great time to search for rental properties, with landlords pulling out of the market, leading to demand increasing for the few remaining. Also we hoped to move back into our house once rectification works were completed and so didn’t want to commit to an 18 month lease, with 12 month break clause, which is standard. We needed something more flexible.
Thanks to Sheila O’Brien’s helpful and imaginative approach she persuaded a landlord who had decided to sell up, but was neither renting, nor selling, that he should rent to us until the sales market improved. In return we would facilitate viewings. The result has benefitted both sides - we got our short term home; the landlord got rent and eventually a sale as the Spring market warmed up.
