My partner and I were under an incredible time pressure. Which wouldn't be hard except that we are both highly particular about our living arrangement.
Karan at foxtons came in with a lot of confidence which I was initially wary of. However every promise he gave was fully backed without a hiccup along the way. In a field thick with lies and empty promises it was a breath of fresh air to work with Karan who was quick to respond to any query.
Contacted them two months ago looking for a flat. A guy name Tom was very nice on the phone but not once in person. He argued that I said my limit was 1,300 pcm while I said 1,200 pcm. However, he showed us 4 flats, none of them under 1,300 (the cheapest was 1,350), insisting in that "the normal thing is to spend the 80% of the salary on the rent. Well, that may be your case Tom, but I don't want to struggle every month to pay my bills. He rudly insists so much on this that he even took a calculator and started calculating how much money we would still have after paying 1400 for a 1 bedroom flat near Portobello Market (btw, I thought the limit supposed to be 1300...). He also added that we will not find a 1 bedroom flat for less than 1300, unless we go to live to heathrow. Well, guess what Tom, we find it in Hackney for 1150, and it is not the crappy flats you showed to us (one of them included the landlords -an old couple that, I guess, wasn't expecting having two girls living together- living on the second floor of the building). I am not saying this the experience you will get with Foxtons. Not at all, at the same time colleagues from Foxtons Archway, Ealing and Greenwich were being incredibly kind and professional with us. I just believe this particular "Tom" from Foxtons Notting Hill is only used to work with wealthy people that would pay whatever they asked for a old, muddy, crappy flat in Kensington. It's fine, just tell me from the begining and don't go wasting my time.
After a few challenging and unpleasant experiences with other estate agents, dealing with Whitman & Co was on a completely different level. Andrew was honest, straightforward and supportive during the whole process, which proved to be quite frustrating.
Next time I need an estate agent, I know where I'll be going.
Thank you so much for the top quality service.
In the process of renting a house with Whitman & Co - it's been a nightmare dealing with the estate agent. Perfect house, and we're excited to move in, however Whitman & Co are unprofessional, very fraught in their communication in the sense that one person says one thing and another will say another thing, and overall very difficult to get a hold of. I call and ask for a callback, only to call back 45 mins later and be told that person has gone to lunch - very poor ethic. Only giving 2 stars as the house is great, other than that they are unable to do their job professionally.
Richard Tann has been very friendly and fast in helping us with our move and negotiating the terms with the Landlord,
I'm glad every aspect worked out smoothly.
Orchards of London (Acton branch) has been consistently unprofessional in our experience. It has been a one sided interaction with replies to emails that are generally requests from their side whereas emails from us have been largely unanswered. Our issue started the day we moved in. There were errors with the contract and paperwork and despite promises from their side, the house was not cleaned up when we moved in. This week, they requested that I stay in the house for a viewing and then did not show up or bother to cancel the appointment with a total disregard for our time and schedule. There was no explaination provided and our email was disregarded. Today, they wanted to co me over and booked a viewing. They also requested that they take the only pair of keys I have (since my partner is travelling) with them to make a copy and promised to return it by 18:00 which did not occur and all the phone numbers that I have are going straight to voice mail. So its Friday evening, I would like to go out and I am stranded for the entire weekend.
Additionally, while my emails have been ignored I received a check-out notice with a fee for £234 for a check out inspection and a fee for £500 for the contract (already paid on moving in) which are numbers that we haven’t encountered in our eight years of renting various apartments across London.
We do not appreciate this behaviour from unprofessional and inconsiderate individuals and strongly take offense to being treated in this manner despite being paying customers.
THE estate agents to use in Queens Park and Kensal Rise - we used Cameron Stiff for our sale (and they acted on our purchase) this year. The friendly, knowledgeable and very hard working team did a brilliant job in a very difficult market, getting lots of viewers through the doors, benchmarking the market and realistic sale prices and putting deals together for us. Jerome, Stephen and Hussein did an excellent job for us on our eventual sale and long delayed purchase and were proactive and ensured all stayed on track. We can't thank the team enough. If you want hard working, tenacious, experienced and pleasant estate agents to work with (which lets face it, we could all do with in today's market), these are the guys to use.
Absolutely appalling service from Camerons Stiff. Incompetent to say the least!
