Very disappointed with the service we’ve received. The gentleman that valued our property came across very unprofessional. Valued our property a lot higher than the other local agents we had round with no explanation as too why which gave us very little confidence in them. Booked Friday, 5 building to see today with Dover Office, arrived this morning from London, they couldn't find their appointments anywhere, were not helpful in any way. said they could book for tomorrow instead!!!! Martin & CO have been hugely important and helpful to me over the past 5 years. I initially rented a property via Martin & CO in Sandgate where I lived for three very happy years. Their management services are excellent. I always felt supported as a tenant with whatever challenges arose, from normal boiler issues to damp in the seafront apartment which lead to a new shower being fitted. I even locked myself out of the flat one evening and a member of staff returned to the office out of hours to give me a spare key. I have now gone on to purchase a property via Martin & CO which I am so happy with. I like the team enormously who are always polite and kind and I am always greeted warmly when I go to the office. I will not do business with a company that treats customers as disrespectfully as this company has treated me. Let this be a warning to potential and current landlords, if your property is listed for a length of time it's because your future tenants are unwilling to sacrifice their first born just to get a return email/phone call. As for a viewing, well it isn't short than an act of God to get one of those! Like I told the woman on the phone I will happily give my money to another agency and another landlord!... Read more

Burnap and Abel were professional and considerate from the beginning, and this was followed through to the very end. Eamon is very personable was excellent at explaining the process. Phone calls were always answered in a timely manner and queries dealt with swiftly and always with the highest attention to detail. If you’re looking to sell at your properties full market value, you would be better advised to go with a different agent. Burnap+Abel sell houses quickly. This is achieved through below market valuations and recommendations to accept low offers on the basis they can proceed quickly. This explains the company’s excellent sales record. A strategy that is price low, advise to accept low, reduce risk of chains failing through and an attempt to secure their income at the earliest opportunity. All at the cost of the seller. So you could say buying through Burnap+Abel is highly recommended and this is certainly reflected in their feedback. Sellers need to beware. Unless you’re in a rush to sell, I would recommend if you want to achieve the best price for your property, use a more mature estate agent that’s not in it for a quick sale at a cost to you.... Under no circumstances sell your business with Hilton Smythe. We made the unfortunate decision to sign a six month contract with them back in February this year to sell our shop. A valuer visited us and told us that if we paid so much upfront, they'd be no more fee's to pay and if the shop wasn't sold within six months we could simply pull it off the market or go with someone else. It was originally marketed and valued at £50,000. Initially we had a lot of interest and a sale looked likely. Then lockdown happened three weeks into the shop being advertised and all went quiet until late July, early August. Barely anything from Hilton Smythe. This we had expected due to the circumstances. In the meantime, the shop has been open and trading extremely well. Then come early August, we start being messed around by the agent. Suddenly and without any warning another agent has taken over and is arranging viewings with people who are not properly vetted. We're let down at the last minute by people who don't show up. We then reduce the price of our business in an effort to sell quicker, even then the agents kept calling with offer's well below the new asking price and when we turned them all down, we were made to feel like we're the ones being unreasonable and as though we should just accept any offer. Low and behold, we have decided to take our business off the market. Our contract ran out on August 2nd, therefore we are now out of contract. But... Hilton Smythe have stated that we have to give them six weeks notice for them to take our business off the market and in this time, we must accept viewings else we are liable for a fee of almost £3,000! We only received an actual copy of our contract, the day we gave Hilton Smythe our notice, which was two days ago. Yesterday, emails were flying back and forth between Myself and the agency over yet another no show. Hilton Smythe have become bullies and will stoop to any depths. They're not on the sellers side, the very people paying them and they will send anyone, unvetted, to waste your time on the promise of a sale. No matter how hard you try to get out of it, they will use 'the contract' against you. Do expect a level of stress that will drive you to the brink of a nervous breakdown and if you have a decent business, expect it to be adversely affected by bogus buyers phoning them and then you being forced into showing such people around! I urge anyone thinking of selling a business, go elsewhere. I wish I had seen some of these reviews back in February.... Read more
