I don't know about selling or buying but I wouldn't rent any more properties with Countrywide. Some of the properties are way below standard level of living but despite this they are offered anyway.They should have regular inspections to make sure that rented properties actually reach the minimum standards. Make sure of taking photos both in your entry day (specially behind furniture corners and walls as they strategically wouldn't add any of these photos in the inventory) and on your leaving day (as they would make up that you left the property in a horrendous state in order to deduct as much as possible from the deposit) . Be ready as well when you first arrive at the property to carry out a deep cleaning yourself to get rid of all the dirt present in the property and don't even bother in doing it at the end as even if you take your time to do it and leave the property in a better condition than when you arrived they will take money from your deposit anyway.... Our daughter has just purchased a flat in Shawlands with the help of Slater Hogg. From the start to the end of the process their service was excellent. Unlike many other estate agents they made themselves available for viewings at all times outwith working hours and including Sundays. The staff always went the extra mile to help us and nothing seemed to be too much bother. Even after the sale they are still assisting us with various issues. All the staff are happy to take ownership of any situation and find a solution for you the customer. Please think twice before using this company. My parent tried to sell their home after been advised to use this company but they were not able to sell for the standard value. If fact this company kept pressuring for the price to be lowered. Then once we asked for them to stop have pressured and threatened for the non payment of 660 during a pandemic and the money from 2 pensioners.... Read more

I sold my fathers property through Avj Homes as the property needed a lot of work but it was in a desirable location, it generated a lot of interest. Avj Homes had a robust system which meant every lead Was followed up and feedback given, they knew the correct time to call the closing date. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! What a bunch of dirty cowboys, when we moved we had cleaned the house and was forced to move due to severe mound and the roof caving in, when we had first veiwed the house there was stuff needing repaired they were sort of repaired by painting over the mould in the bathroom bedrooms hallway, kitchen living room every bloody room in the house you really are a bunch of cowboys and for the fact that Vijay rushed us round the property and told us to hurry up he toke a dog deposit from us which Can not be found utter cowboys and have no remorse I was in and out of hospital due to the mould being that bad I was soo ill this place should not be in business as they don’t care for the homes they are looking after you never done any of the repairs we requested you to do this will be taking to court as you really have made me soo angry about this they really need to stop trading everyone that has had something done to them by these people should sue them, PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM COMPLETE COWBOYS AND NEVER DOES A THING TO HELP YOU OUT WITH THE REPAIRS!!!!!!!!!!... A small thing, but perhaps a reflection of the efficiency of this agency. They have left one of their To Let signs in my street lying on the pavement. I have reported it 3 times in the last 3 weeks and its still lying there. I have pointed out that this is dangerous for poorly sighted people and for this reason I have moved it into the central garden.... Read more

Under no circumstances sell your business with Hilton Smythe. We made the unfortunate decision to sign a six month contract with them back in February this year to sell our shop. A valuer visited us and told us that if we paid so much upfront, they'd be no more fee's to pay and if the shop wasn't sold within six months we could simply pull it off the market or go with someone else. It was originally marketed and valued at £50,000. Initially we had a lot of interest and a sale looked likely. Then lockdown happened three weeks into the shop being advertised and all went quiet until late July, early August. Barely anything from Hilton Smythe. This we had expected due to the circumstances. In the meantime, the shop has been open and trading extremely well. Then come early August, we start being messed around by the agent. Suddenly and without any warning another agent has taken over and is arranging viewings with people who are not properly vetted. We're let down at the last minute by people who don't show up. We then reduce the price of our business in an effort to sell quicker, even then the agents kept calling with offer's well below the new asking price and when we turned them all down, we were made to feel like we're the ones being unreasonable and as though we should just accept any offer. Low and behold, we have decided to take our business off the market. Our contract ran out on August 2nd, therefore we are now out of contract. But... Hilton Smythe have stated that we have to give them six weeks notice for them to take our business off the market and in this time, we must accept viewings else we are liable for a fee of almost £3,000! We only received an actual copy of our contract, the day we gave Hilton Smythe our notice, which was two days ago. Yesterday, emails were flying back and forth between Myself and the agency over yet another no show. Hilton Smythe have become bullies and will stoop to any depths. They're not on the sellers side, the very people paying them and they will send anyone, unvetted, to waste your time on the promise of a sale. No matter how hard you try to get out of it, they will use 'the contract' against you. Do expect a level of stress that will drive you to the brink of a nervous breakdown and if you have a decent business, expect it to be adversely affected by bogus buyers phoning them and then you being forced into showing such people around! I urge anyone thinking of selling a business, go elsewhere. I wish I had seen some of these reviews back in February.... Read more
