Hi folks! I read the (terrible) reviews for this particular branch of Belvoir!, but all the same I decided to try with them as I really liked the flat they had. First of all, the agent who showed me the flat arrived 15 minutes late without bothering to call me to let me know. After the viewing, I asked him for his number / email to contact him in case I was interested in the flat. He didn’t have any business card or something. He just wrote on my notebook his personal address (what?) and sounding casual, he said “Oh, I can give you my work email too”, and then he wrote down his work’s email address INCORRECTLY. After that, I emailed him at his work’s address to realise the address was incorrect. I then emailed him at his personal’s address. He didn’t reply at all. Finally, I went to the office and I showed my interested in the flat and my proposal. A couple of hours later, a senior negotiator emailed me and asked me if I could call him when I would be free. I told two times a senior negotiator that I preferred to be contacted via email, since I am Spanish and my spoken English isn't perfect and I didn't want to misunderstand things or say things incorrectly. He didn't seem to care much as he kept calling me, even using hidden numbers when he realized I wasn't picking up the phone. Apart from the usual stuff when applying to a flat, he told me that in order to secure the flat and to start the referencing process, I had to pay a £150.00 Administration Fee and an Advanced Rent payment of £450 (£600 in total). According to their guidelines, this amount wasn't refundable if I failed my reference check. Also, the decision was made by the landlord but In the event of an application not being accepted they wouldn't give specific reasons or otherwise discuss in detail the decision made. I have rented two flats on my own in Scotland for the last three years using a private landlord and a letting agency. Also, my salary is quite high, so my only concern was about my credit history because, as a foreigner, I have had problems in the past with my credit score as I wasn’t registered to vote and I was afraid I may fail the reference check for a mere “Poor credit history”. So I told him: "are you telling me that I can pay £600 pounds to start the referencing process and secure the flat to finally find out that “I failed my reference check, thanks for using Belvoir! Lettings” with no specific reasons given and then that you keep the money to "cover your costs"?. Seriously?I was expecting a reassuring email and a deal from them, something like "Daniel, don't you worry about your credit history, we understand your position and we promise that in that case…blablabla”, something like what I got from you current letting agency when I applied for my current flat in Edinburgh. His reply was a simple “Regarding payment we will have to take the amount on the email as this is company procedure”. Basically, he didn’t give a shit. So that’s my experience with them. I hope this helps!
