We appreciate difficult selling markets but when working in those a realistic and honest approach from the estate agent to the seller is vital but unfortunately not something that this agent achieved in our experience

No communication, no updates, they over value a property to get you on board and then you have to keep reducing the price because they cannot sell it. 2 years to sell a property during a time when all houses were flying off the shelves! Anything associated with Duckworths, I would stay well away unless you want to lose money. They don't care and it shows in their service.

27th Aug 2026 (18 days ago)I’ve had a really positive experience dealing with Dev throughout my house purchase. From the initial viewings, which were always relaxed and gave me plenty of time to properly take in the house, through to agreeing the sale, he’s been great to deal with.<br><br>Dev helped with the negotiations and ultimately helped me agree a price I was really happy with. Although it’s been a relatively straightforward purchase with no chain, he’s still kept on top of things throughout, regularly chasing where needed and helping to keep the process moving.<br><br>He’s always been friendly, pleasant and easy to deal with, both in person and over the phone. Buying a house can be a stressful process, but Dev has made this experience very straightforward. I’d happily recommend Dev and the team at Gascoigne Halman Knutsford for house purchases and sales.

19th Aug 2026 (26 days ago)Selling our house with Edward Mellor was positive until getting on towards the end of the process. Giving 1 star because of this would also be incredibly harsh because overall, and having a few months to sit on it before coming online and leaving a horrendous review, the experience wasn’t what it should have been.<br><br>They had a challenge with our house; it had been on the market previously with another vendor who produced almost exactly nothing when we decided to take a break and focus on our children. We all have challenges in our life and the trouble with a process like selling a house is it can become incredibly inhumane; poor, low ball offers, a lack of response from anyone and the constant fear of your buyer pulling out, especially in 2025/2026 when the market has been quite odd.<br><br>Initially the sales team were amazing; Andrew and then Josh, both excellent representatives and did everything they could within their power to get viewings in. I took a number of the viewings myself as they were struggling for staff but then were able to recruit in. No problem there. Once the house had been on the market for a couple of months we sold. Unfortunately our buyer pulled out with a couple of weeks to go, among the worst possible things a buyer can do. Mellor were straight on the phone to say they would handle it, get it back on and get us a buyer. Then silence for days. This is not the time for silence. We also had a very non-chalant call with the manager Jo who showed zero interest in keeping us and we had the sense they wanted to offload us. We carried on, again, due to the excellent sales team we initially had.<br><br>The sales side dropped off massively, as there were either no people to take viewings so had to do them myself or they would send new people every time. They could be excellent sales people but this is the time to send your experienced sales people who know the house, so ended up doing the viewings myself. We sold again a month or so later and ended up having to renegotiate on our price following a survey. This caused a lot of anxiety and we were left in silence from Mellor about it and then the weekend came. We had to take matters into our own hands and renegotiated with the buyer to keep the sale progressing, a chain of four houses. That’s when Jackie got nasty with me. As it was also progressing quite slowly she suggested to move things forward we pressure the chain with an ultimatum date. This very much rattled the chain and upset a lot of people. Having talked to our buyer and our sellers estate agent to calm things down, I called Jackie to ask her to pull it back. I was aggressively told to ‘stop interfering’, how the reduction wouldn’t have been needed if they had left it to her and to ‘keep my nose out’. I then tried to calm her down and she put the phone down. After that she never answered the phone and rarely responded to emails. Again, I want to stress that this must be a high pressure job but this was an incredibly immature response to paying customers who had been receiving increasingly poor service. This is also the reaction from the person who completes your sale, the person who is with you at the most stressful time. It was honestly not even close to good enough.<br><br>In conclusion, after an initial sales push, the service faded fast. The after sales service was poor and nearly cost us the sale of the house which we could not afford. I cannot recommend Edward Mellor based on this. They have a major problem on after sales and would advise you query if this has changed before taking them on to sell your property. I hope it improves.

15th Jun 2026 (13 weeks ago)The initial meeting to value the property, the subsequent meeting to take photos and the organising of the paperwork was great, we were impressed, which was why we went with them. Unfortunately, after 14 weeks on the market they had only got us 2 viewings and their communication to us was a bit hit and miss, so we decided to go with a different agent. They weren’t the right agent for us on this occasion.
21st Aug 2026 (24 days ago)Mike Hadfield was polite, friendly and personable. He explained clearly how he had reached his valuation for the property, the selling process, and their fee for selling. He clearly takes pride in his work, which was demonstrated when he spent time taking the photographs to show the best features of the property. We were able to sell the property for the price he had suggested.

Branch manager Adam was a pleasure to deal with from the first time we met, through to the completion day and handing the keys over. He was ably supported by his colleague Jodie, who also was very attentive, responsive, and was pivotal in getting what turned out to be a more complex sale over the line. I would have no hesitation in recommending Bridgfords in Ashton Under Lyne for your property transaction, whether buying or selling.- 19th Aug 2026 (26 days ago)Thanks to James and the team for successfully selling my house.<br>I became very stressed in the last couple of weeks before exchange and their support and patience with me was much appreciated. 29th Aug 2026 (16 days ago)Very disappointing experience – would not use again<br><br>I moved out on 7th August and only received my deposit back today, after having to chase and chase for it. This was particularly frustrating given that I had left the property immaculate.<br><br>I was initially told that £150 would be deducted from my deposit for a couple of Blu Tack marks on the wall. When I questioned this, Northwood told me that the landlord had obtained quotes from decorators. However, when I asked to see these quotes, the explanation suddenly changed to the landlord doing the painting themselves.<br><br>So, effectively, I was being asked to pay £150 for the landlord to paint over a few Blu Tack marks themselves. I also requested before-and-after photographs to support the deduction, but these were never provided.<br><br>After negotiating, the deduction was eventually reduced to £75. At that point, I decided to accept it simply because I wanted to get the remainder of my deposit back and bring the whole experience to an end.<br><br>I have rented numerous properties over the years in the Cheshire area and, based on my experience, I would personally say that Stephenson Browne is head and shoulders above Northwood.<br><br>Unfortunately, I would not consider using Northwood again in the future, whether to rent, buy or sell a property. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise prospective tenants, landlords and sellers to think carefully before using this company.
