This was my first time to purchase a property and I expected it to be a bit stressful, but never imagined I'd be doing it during a global pandemic! VMH were fantastic throughout the whole process. I selected the firm on the basis of a call from Stewart, who was responsive, informative and supportive. My file was then taken over by Robin who looked after me very well right through to completion. Fees were reasonable and completely transparent. Excellent service and highly recommended.... Read more

Laura was very informative in letting us know about relevant properties in relation to our search criteria. As we had failed in our first attempt, she notified us about a second property which we were then successful with. Both Laura's were very easy to get in contact with, and provided quick responses which is always a positive. Top service provided and definitely would recommend.... Read more

We trusted the good intentions of the company and believed the inventory given at the beginning of our tenancy was accurate enough. Now things that were overlooked before the beginning of our tenancy, might be charged as our fault. It is deliberately malicious. We will take this matter further and by no means we will let this company swindle us. Their intention is clear: keep the money from our deposit and ask for as much money they want from us. The deposit (£300) is more than enough to cover whatever delusion they may come up with. We did everything correctly and we feel not only betrayed but also laughed at by DJ Alexander. Furthermore, the fact that they inspect the property on their own, after vacation, without the tenants present, raises a red flag as well. There were some other irregularities in the process such as the time three agents came in without asking for permission first, situation the contract absolutely forbids. How can someone even have enough time to think through such machiavellian plans to swindle people? It's beyond me. (And no, I won't change nor edit this opinion. You deserve it. You know what you did with the inventory).... Read more

This is my second time letting with Cairn and I would highly recommend using them as your Letting Agency. The staff have always been extremely professional and helpful. We have never had a problem getting ahold of staff on the phone or via email. It is easy to report any issues through the online system and we found that they were resolved very quickly. Many thanks to the Cairn staff.... Read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. Viewed a property to purchase twice and neither of the selling agents who showed us around could answer any of the questions we asked. They also booked us in with another couple at the same time so we had no privacy and did not had the agent to ourselves to ask questions. I was certainly not comfortable wanting to discuss my situation when there was another potential buyer in the building. I emailed the office with a list of questions and had to call in to chase up answers, even after I had stated in the email very clearly I was interested and wanted to move quickly. Whilst still awaiting answers to my questions, I was called to say an offer had been accepted on the property. Had I been informed there was already an offer in, I would have been able to put in an offer of my own. Poor communication skills and they do not appear to value potential buyers’ time nor offer them the respect to keep them informed of progress. At all points I felt I was a nuisance by asking questions about a property I was prepared to spend a lot of money on.... Read more

My experience with Neilsons started of Great. Dealing with Dave he was very efficient and quick to respond thought the whole process. However there was an ongoing Roof replacement on the property I was purchasing . I had raised my concerns to be investigated more to ensure I didn't have to pay for the bill. Dave passed this onto another member of the team who after consulting with the sellers solicitor confirmed I didn't have to pay for the roof replacement. The day I moved into the property I got a letter stating that I had to pay for the remaining 2/3 of the roof replacement which was just over £2000. Apparently only 1/3 of the roof had been replaced which I feel should have been picked up. This experience left me feeling a bit let down by Neilsons however It wouldn't put me off solely using Dave.... Read more

Under no circumstances sell your business with Hilton Smythe. We made the unfortunate decision to sign a six month contract with them back in February this year to sell our shop. A valuer visited us and told us that if we paid so much upfront, they'd be no more fee's to pay and if the shop wasn't sold within six months we could simply pull it off the market or go with someone else. It was originally marketed and valued at £50,000. Initially we had a lot of interest and a sale looked likely. Then lockdown happened three weeks into the shop being advertised and all went quiet until late July, early August. Barely anything from Hilton Smythe. This we had expected due to the circumstances. In the meantime, the shop has been open and trading extremely well. Then come early August, we start being messed around by the agent. Suddenly and without any warning another agent has taken over and is arranging viewings with people who are not properly vetted. We're let down at the last minute by people who don't show up. We then reduce the price of our business in an effort to sell quicker, even then the agents kept calling with offer's well below the new asking price and when we turned them all down, we were made to feel like we're the ones being unreasonable and as though we should just accept any offer. Low and behold, we have decided to take our business off the market. Our contract ran out on August 2nd, therefore we are now out of contract. But... Hilton Smythe have stated that we have to give them six weeks notice for them to take our business off the market and in this time, we must accept viewings else we are liable for a fee of almost £3,000! We only received an actual copy of our contract, the day we gave Hilton Smythe our notice, which was two days ago. Yesterday, emails were flying back and forth between Myself and the agency over yet another no show. Hilton Smythe have become bullies and will stoop to any depths. They're not on the sellers side, the very people paying them and they will send anyone, unvetted, to waste your time on the promise of a sale. No matter how hard you try to get out of it, they will use 'the contract' against you. Do expect a level of stress that will drive you to the brink of a nervous breakdown and if you have a decent business, expect it to be adversely affected by bogus buyers phoning them and then you being forced into showing such people around! I urge anyone thinking of selling a business, go elsewhere. I wish I had seen some of these reviews back in February.... Read more
