Searching for a flat in London can be very stressful, especially as a student. However, I was so lucky for Driss Seggari at Chestertons who helped me from day one searching for a flat until I found the perfect one, understanding all the requirements I needed to move in requested by my mother. He was patient with me, he is trustworthy, very professional and answers all my questions quickly. Thanks Driss!... Read more

This is the worst estate agent to deal with landlords as they are not professional at all I dealt with them and lost a client and a money around £700!! so i do not recommend them at if you are a Landlord do not deal with them! Plaza, Foxtons, Kay & Co. and Manor and co. are much much professional you will never have issue with them like what i faced with Chestertons do not deal with them if you do not want to loose money!... I can't recommend this agency to anyone. They should deal with good landlords, is their responsibility. Broken toilet during the whole tenancy, because of that we get moist, as a result, money was taken from our deposit, deposit that we struggle to get back. We had to manage the inventory ourselves. We spent 300£ in locksmith, the lockers were broken and we paid from our pocket. Outrageous!... Read more

This was our local branch of the estate agent that was actually a very good branch and relatively friendly. Unfortunately as a tenant you should be aware that a lot of the time you will be dealing with their main office which is absolutely abysmal. My review that I have posted on that office address is below. If you see your dream property accompanied by one of the nice local branch teams, I'd strongly recommending going elsewhere as they are the most unprofessional team that will ignore you unless its about paying them a fee. our property was in Harper Road and we left recently for reference. I'm not interested in being contacted by Hastings about this review as we are now lodging a formal complaint with Property Ombudsman. Without a doubt the worst experience I've ever had in 12 years of living in rental accommodation. This isn't my local branch but most of the problems we had were with the central office who processed our contract and still have not returned our deposit 3 months after vacating our property. I dealt with Mark who was rude but did answer some emails and Denise who was rarely available but polite when she was during my tenancy. The main problem is that we have not been contacted since August 3rd by Hastings in relation to returning our deposit. They have also failed to respond to the DPS as well over the last two weeks. We have agreed to have our deposit returned in full, the simple problem is nobody at hastings has done anything or even responded to us. Additional to this we have had the following problems. Agreed a new fridge as part of a new contract which was never installed Constant issues with our tenancy agreement when changing names that was time consuming. Inflated fees for references at end of tenancy £60 each so £180 for 3 people. Being asked to do the comparison of our original inventory to our exit inventory ourselves and highlight it for them after paying above average admin fees. constantly having to ask again and again via email to get a response on multiple issues. Rude emails from staff. The landlady who used this agency changed the property over to someone else and called me to apologise for using them as they were so so bad. We are now taking to the dps to be resolved and lodging a formal complaint. Don't be suckered in by the local teams being nice and friendly for most part they were and they sorted out routine items, but the main management team that handles contracts and other items are so so bad you will have a terrible time renting from this agency.... If you are a tenant, avoid. They couldn’t care less about tenants, they only care about landlords. They are rude and disorganised. They rarely reply to emails with useful information and they never took actions to fix things in our flat. It took so long to have our deposit back, coming back with excuses of the system not working (they use Docusign), and they messed up with the inventory too. We had to challenge so many things, even light bulbs that were not in working order before we moved in, and similar. If you are a landlord you should also avoid, ideally you don’t want your tenants to have such a bad experience. I also had a horrible experience with Alastair. He doesn’t understand you and your needs, he doesn’t care, he is cold, inexperienced, and doesn’t represent you with the landlord. This is the worst agency I’ve ever interacted with. Avoid.... Edited to add: the response contains a number of inaccuracies. As of 28/11/18, Leo Newman still haven’t released my deposit. Also, when they learned of this review, they threatened to put me on a “tenant black list”. So their good rating here might be due to threats. ——————— It started out so good, but quickly sped downhill... TL;DR: They're nice on the way in, but shifty on the way out. THE GOOD: If you're only using them as a lettings agent, Leo Newman are all right (if expensive). They worked with us on the deposit (being new to the UK, it's hard to move money around). They provided a decent flat at an affordable rent (once I counter offered, that is). THE BAD: Leo Newman were also our property management company, so we had consistent run-arounds to get simple repairs performed. They did (eventually) fix things, such as the leak in the kitchen ceiling, but only after an exhaustive back and forth where they ask you to photograph what's wrong. THE UGLY: This is where it gets nasty. When our tenancy agreement came due after a year, they wanted to jack up the rent by 20%. Since the flat wasn't worth what they were asking, we countered with a more reasonable 2%. We were exemplary tenants; never late with rent, quiet, clean, and generally good neighbours. It took them weeks to accept our offer, but in the meantime we found a better flat in a nicer neighbourhood for just a bit more money. On moving in, we paid an additional deposit due to our small cat, bringing the total to £1500. Moving out, we followed all of their conditions to the letter, even to getting a professional deep cleaning. The only hitch was accessing our electrical account, which was paid on standing debit. I couldn't get into the account to show the £0 balance, but did give them the debit as proof of payment. That wasn't good enough, so they've withheld my £1500 deposit FOR WEEKS (this is in direct violation of the DPS, which states that funds can't be arbitrarily withheld and only the amount in dispute can be claimed, NOT the whole amount, and that the landlord has to show cause)....
