I was a first time buyer of an apartment with connells, as this was my first purchase myself and my partner were so excited to move in. It was a long sale which i will give the manager credit for chasing, however, i also felt I had to keep chasing him to chase it! There was no chain yet the sale took almost 4 months! I work in estate agency myself and know that no upward chain sales do not take this long.... When the day of completion came it was the last day before Connells closed for a week for Christmas. Myself and my boyfriend could not wait to move in just in time for christmas day! However, when given the keys we went to the apartment to find we could not unlock the door!!! We went back to connells and they said they had 'problems with the door' in the past and that we should of checked this ourselves!! Again, working in the business myself I have never let my clients unlock the front door! They shouldn't have to it should just unlock!!! Connells took no responsibility for this and said they didn't want to cause the inconvenience of not giving us the keys! How is giving us keys to a property we cant even get into any less inconvenient!!!!! We were shocked!!!! We had to call the lock smith out who charged us £60! Connells refused to foot the bill even though they knew the front door would not unlock! We are also missing keys to a balcony door, again, we put trust in the estate agent that all keys would be supplied to us! Another £60 we now need to spend!! We are now up to £120 before we even put our furniture in!!!! For anyone buying with connells check all your keys and check all locks work! Connells will take no responsibilty for this and not even out of good will! Considering i work at one of its competitors i wouldn't DREAM of letting something like this happen to one of my buyers on their completion! Very dissapointed! This was meant to be a special day for myself and my partner yet Connells took any joy and excitement out of this and made it extremely stressful. If i could leave 0 stars I would!!... Read more

78 Green Lane, Great Barr, B43. Purchased below market value by Mr. Davinder Sangha (valuer for Connells Great Barr). Currently being marketed by Green & Co. via online auction through SDL Auctions. I believe the previous owners were put under duress to sell there asset below market value to an employee of the estate agent they trusted to get the most for there property. I would advise all owners who are currently marketing through Connells to check if they are selling at the right price and anyone going through the process of sale to check if they are selling to a legitimate buyer and not an employee of Connells. Absolute time wasters. I have been actively looking for a property to rent. Three weeks ago I contacted the agent, to book a viewing, agent called me back a week later to inform me viewing was cancelled, as the property was taken, I was a little disappointed but thought hey, I then showed an interest to another property, this time speaking to another agent, the agent booked me in, funny enough on the same day, I received an email from agent when I first called them, about another property, this one didn't quite catch my eye, but I agreed to view it, I was honest, informing them, it was not for me, after the viewing, I mentioned the property that I really liked, agent said you would really like this one, re-confirming the booking on 11/06/2020 at 16:45, on the day I tried to contact the office, to confirm the go ahead, no answer, I tried several times, then received a text at 16:20, second time round ''Your viewing for …….. has been cancelled as the property is no longer available. Thanks Dixons', it makes me wonder if they just pick and choose who they want as tenants,, cancelled on me twice, It would be good to see record, of how many people made an enquiry, date and time, I'm sure I was one of the first, where's the fairness in that, not even a viewing, again absolute time wasters!!... I booked a viewing on a flat, I was going to be the first to view and put a deposit down if I liked it. Centrick let someone else put a deposit down without even viewing the property. I think this is a terrible way to do things and completely unfair. I've probably had a lucky escape not having to deal with them if this is how they operate.... Read more

Under no circumstances sell your business with Hilton Smythe. We made the unfortunate decision to sign a six month contract with them back in February this year to sell our shop. A valuer visited us and told us that if we paid so much upfront, they'd be no more fee's to pay and if the shop wasn't sold within six months we could simply pull it off the market or go with someone else. It was originally marketed and valued at £50,000. Initially we had a lot of interest and a sale looked likely. Then lockdown happened three weeks into the shop being advertised and all went quiet until late July, early August. Barely anything from Hilton Smythe. This we had expected due to the circumstances. In the meantime, the shop has been open and trading extremely well. Then come early August, we start being messed around by the agent. Suddenly and without any warning another agent has taken over and is arranging viewings with people who are not properly vetted. We're let down at the last minute by people who don't show up. We then reduce the price of our business in an effort to sell quicker, even then the agents kept calling with offer's well below the new asking price and when we turned them all down, we were made to feel like we're the ones being unreasonable and as though we should just accept any offer. Low and behold, we have decided to take our business off the market. Our contract ran out on August 2nd, therefore we are now out of contract. But... Hilton Smythe have stated that we have to give them six weeks notice for them to take our business off the market and in this time, we must accept viewings else we are liable for a fee of almost £3,000! We only received an actual copy of our contract, the day we gave Hilton Smythe our notice, which was two days ago. Yesterday, emails were flying back and forth between Myself and the agency over yet another no show. Hilton Smythe have become bullies and will stoop to any depths. They're not on the sellers side, the very people paying them and they will send anyone, unvetted, to waste your time on the promise of a sale. No matter how hard you try to get out of it, they will use 'the contract' against you. Do expect a level of stress that will drive you to the brink of a nervous breakdown and if you have a decent business, expect it to be adversely affected by bogus buyers phoning them and then you being forced into showing such people around! I urge anyone thinking of selling a business, go elsewhere. I wish I had seen some of these reviews back in February.... Read more
