I have been a good paying customer of Hamptons at the top end of the rental market for over 4 years. I gave birth to my daughter January this year to return home from the hospital to a stone cold house in the middle of a very cold winter. 22 visits from various contractors later, the heating was never fixed and we were threatened with action against us for breaking it. I had men marching through my bedroom to check on the radiators during a very private period of time for me with my baby.
No sympathy, no advice. I was spoken to like I was a complete idiot. No apologies. It was like talking to an answering machine. I had to call and demand or beg that something is done about the heating, otherwise I heard nothing for days and days. After escalating a formal complaint, I was told that service was absolutely spot on and to provide more information. I’ve never received a formal apology.
After we moved out the misguidance continued. Our undisputed deposit which should have been returned within ten days only got paid to us after nearly 3 months and only after I logged it with TDS. Otherwise I was told to wait until the landlord said I could have it back. This advice from Hamptons was in fact in breach of the tenancy deposit agreement.
Terrible experience, felt l was treated as a nuisance, not a customer. The management team is extremely rude and lack any kind of humanity. They will try to misguide you whenever they can to protect the landlord’s whim to save a penny or to simply annoy you. There is no fairness when it comes to the tenant. Be prepared to having to resort to legal means to receive basic rights as a Tennant.
The only person who completely stands out is Richard, the leader of the management team. Once I got talking to him, I started getting solutions. He is very personable and sensible. Strange that the rest of the team is impossible to deal with.
