Having had no success and very little help with my original Estate Agent I transferred to Shaws and immediately there was a marked improvement in the service, knowledge and professionalism provided by Douglas.
I was kept fully informed and up to date at all stages of the process. After he had found a buyer he was most helpful with all the difficulties that occurred during the final stages of the purchase. Many thanks Douglas and we[[ done. Your services were much appreciated.

After several viewings and a very strenuous house hunting experience, I accidentally stumbled upon a property posted by Douglas. I sent a message late at night , just before heading back to Cornwall. He responded immediately and arranged a viewing, as well as a second one , with no hassles. No pressure or pretence from him. He’s been supportive, professional and understanding in what is normally a stressful process. If we ever consider selling or buying a second property; I would trust him. Having met several estate agents, he doesn’t make you feel like he’s just in it for the money. Thanks Douglas !!!!

I have been renting from Shaws of Lowestoft for 5 years now and have always found Douglas to be very professional, friendly and helpful. Any problems have been sorted out very quickly and efficiently, and I would have no hesitation recommending shaws of Lowestoft if you want a good honest estate agent.

When myself and my wife decided to move into our house Douglas and the team at Shaws were absolutely amazing. He comes and does inspections every 6 months, he is always on time, never cancelled on us and is always pleasant. He made the entire process so easy, if we ever have a question or need something he is always happy to help and if he needs an answer from the landlord he is very quick at getting a response back to us. If you are looking to let, purchase or even rent out your property then Shaws should be your first stop.

I’ve posted similar on another site but it hasn’t been published yet possibly because it’s positive Douglas Shaw has handled my rental property for over 10 years I totally respect his knowledge and professional approach and a true Gentleman as well, money well spent because his legal knowledge AND band of contractors if there’s a property problem is equally valuable I’ve always been invited to get my own quotes and have never been able improve his prices and this comes with the added benefit that the problem for ME is hassle free. Think you can do it yourself? THINK AGAIN

Douglas Shaw has handled my rental property for over 10 years in a totally professional yet compassionate manner makes him a real Gentleman to deal with, His knowledge of the market and realistic manner and plus the the fact as an independent trader not trying to work his way up the ladder in a big organisation makes him for me the go to guy for my needs. If work needs doing he gives me the opportunity to source suppliers BUT of yet he’s always been on top in terms of pricing and MOST importantly takes the hassle out of the problem. Think you can do it yourself? THINK AGAIN ????

Rude and arrogant estate agent who needs to learn about law and how to talk to customers.
The previous review was 1 star only as well, but somehow when it was posted it showed 5 stars!!!!! Is this a tactic to avoid the constant 1 star reviews?

The estate agent in Lowestoft is rude and has very poor inerpersonal and communication skills. He does not know the law regarding to the right to rent in UK and consequently discriminate against people who want to rent.
He did not want to listen to the arguments brought by me based on UK legislation and hanged up on me. I would like to know where can i officially complain about discrimination in dealings with requests for rent.

Just dreadful! Quite shocking, rude, abrupt and interestingly, in the responses to negative feedback, the same copy and pasted reply from the owner that emphasises denying anything to do with the person leaving negative feedback. This tells you all you need to know about this company. They do not work with feedback but deny any knowledge of it...even with the negative feedback being caused by the same issue. Is this who you want selling your house? Or to rent a property from? When something goes wrong do you want to be working with somebody who denies anything has gone wrong or with someone who works to fix it? I would say avoid this company like the plague. Also, is profiling. Not basing letting decisions on Credit record, income or references alone but is factoring in appearance. By definition profiling...in 2023. Equalities act 2010. Look it up.

Completely shocked by the way I was spoken to by one if Shaw's representative. Words can not express the unprofessional manner in which it happened.
The representative was rude, curt, and made me and my daughter feel extremely upset. I would avoid this agency at all costs. What an extremely rude man there are no reasons that anyone should be spoken to like that.

I am still in shock by my experience from Shaws. One month ago I called in regards to 2 houses for rent. I left a message and email but got no response. Yesterday 2 more houses came on the market for rent through Shaws. I called this morning and it went to answer phone. In the mean time a family member called and got a response from Douglas- his response was rude and very aggressive. I had no idea my family member had managed to get through and I called. He was absolutely awful towards me, rude, aggressive and told me he would get me done for harassment? Am I wrong in thinking a good professional estate agent would normally call back or email in response!? Am I wrong for trying to follow up with no response from you!? I do not understand how you are still open and I feel sorry for any woman that has to have any contact with you. Please do not use!!!

I will admit this bad experience took place nearly 10 years ago, however a friend of mine has recently had a bad experience here, and looking at the reviews it seems nothing has changed, at this god awful estate agents.
I dealt with a man named Douglas, very rude, intimidating, and condescending. No interpersonal skills whatsoever.
He seems to have a very big dislike for the average man/woman, he will speak down and look down at you, and take delight in reeling off reasons as to why you are not good enough for a property.
He took over £200 in fees from us and left us hanging high and dry.
This man will only entertain you if you’re a rich, middle aged, white person.
Do yourself a favour, and use one of the many other estate agents available in the area, and avoid Shaws like the Black Death.

When recently looking for a new property for our family, we contacted various Agents having seen houses on Right Move (Or as I like to call it the adults version of the Argos Catalogue) however when viewing long properties we found the rooms smaller than described or photographed.
However with Douglas and Shaws the level of service, and description of the property to what it's was actually like was Amazing - 5 stars. When it said 4 bedrooms there where 4 decent size bedrooms.
Paperwork was simple and easy, fees fair and reasonable compared to some others out there!!, Communication was quick, reactive and plentiful. Dogulas was happy to answer any questions that we had.
If only they could of helped with the actual moving part haha, would recommend / definitely recommend to anyone and everyone.

I called the letting agents to ask about a property, I explained that I live 120 miles away and that I would like a family member to view the property, I was told by a very rude agent that that would not be possible and he used the terminology I will be honest with you "you will be wasting my time" wè have many people interested and didn't want to wait for me, I understand that that might be the case and I don't have a problem with honesty but I do however have a problem with rudeness, and in my terminology "I won't be wasting my time using Shaws again"

Having sold my house through another agent I’d found a property through shaws, called four times to view a house never got my appointment and no one bothered to call me back! Very disappointed wit my overall experience from the rude man who answered the phone on my last call to the no response my experience has been dreadful thankfully they weren’t involved in my house sale!

Having sold my last house using Shaws and also having sold my current house via Shaws I can only go on my own experience which on both occasions have been great, I used the £499 inc vat option on both occasions and sold both homes within 2 weeks of being put up for sale. If you have confidence in your home selling itself and only need to get it onto the main online websites then this is without doubt the best option in this area. Found staff to answer all questions quick and minimum fuss. Would use again without hesitation.

Viewed a property to rent and the young lady who turned up in Ali G's car (Very unprofessional) Dressed awful and had as much character as a toilet brush.
First impressions are what put us off as she clearly didn't know what day it was.. let alone the property details.

i found douglas to be very arrogant , and rude when speaking to the customer, my daughter was renting from him, complained to him about the room being damp, he said it was condensation,it was rising damp up the wall, which led to my grandaughter being hospitalised , today i had the joy of meeting him again, we needed prove from him saying my daughter lived there , and he couldnt prove no evidence to us for her living there as our data has been shredded 2 years ago , also when being spoken to over the phone by a council officer, you even put the phone down on her, what a arrorgant man you are!!! so i would not recommend shaws, stay well clear !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought my property from Shaws and can without doubt honestly say whenever I contacted them everyone I spoke to was unhelpful Unknowledgeable and unwilling to help. Whomever I spoke to would state they 'I'm not dealing with that property' so could not answer any of my questions I never was able to locate the person who was ACTUALLY dealing with it because they never rang me back. I do not know what Shaws are like to sell your property but I can say that if I was to buy another property and Shaws were the agents selling it I would most definitely think twice about attempting to buy the property

Over the years I have bought, sold and let via Shaws.
Douglas is a breath of fresh air in a market stuffed with hubris and pie crust promises. Using other estate agents I've lost count how many times I've been promised a return call - yep still waiting.
Douglas consistently delivers; when I request updates, Douglas updates me; when a chain is stalling he chases the chain. He possesses excellent market knowledge and I don't use anyone else.

Can honestly say one of the rudest agents I have ever spoken too! Very unhelpful, extremely rude and did not even know the property they were talking about! No wonder they have to sell property for such a low fee, why would anyone want to use them!! AVOID AT ALL COST!!

At last - a letting agent to trust.
Honest, direct, hard - working and reliable. Always keeps me in touch with what's going on, with my best interests at heart. No bullshit - if they doesn't have an answer, they lets me know. It makes the difference between being an absent landlord worrying about what is really going on, to being confident my properties are being well managed.

I have several properties in Lowestoft which I let out, including my old home. Shaws manage them all for me, and as I now live over 300 miles away, it is very important to me that I have real peace of mind and that I know what is going on.
Douglas Shaw, whom I have known now for 6 years, keeps me fully informed at all times regarding anything which relates to the properties, either good or bad, including notifying me of any gas/electric safety certificates that will need renewing. This also includes sending me photographs where appropriate, so I am fully informed and able to make the necessary judgement on any given situation. In the event of work needing to be done, he asks me how I would like things to proceed and he then goes ahead and deals with everything very quickly and efficiently whilst always bearing in mind my financial welfare, as well as knowing that I expect a good quality of workmanship for my tenants.
Along with the monthly statements, I am also sent copies of any receipts relating to expenditure.
I can relax in the knowledge that even if I am away and not available to discuss an urgent issue, he would sort it, with integrity, without losing sight of the fact that my best interests are also paramount.
I cannot rate the service I have received highly enough and would not hesitate to recommend Shaws of Lowestoft to anyone looking for a reliable, conscientious and honest estate/ letting agent.
